If that's our starting 7 D, then it's as soft as tissue paper. FML.

Where's Roman Polak when you need him. He was a warrior.
Jesus! Do you not remember what a useless lump of coal in the stocking he was? Here, I'll refresh your memory: "And with 30 seconds left and Toronto up by 1, the faceoff will be back in the Leafs zone after Polak iced the puck."
Rinse and repeat.

time to let Sandin and Liljegren play. or if Liljegren isnt viewed as a player who can atleast play this year full time. maybe it's time to try and shop him

I'm worried they've already given up on him. It just doesn't seem like they're setting him up to succeed. Almost like they view him as a "Lou" pick, and they'll never give him a proper shot just because of that.

In a perfect world, I'd trade Reilly and pick up Hamilton and David Savard.

In reality, I don't like their options due to their cap issues and their seemingly lack of trade flexibility. I fear that they are going to focus on everything but D, when they could really seal up the backend with a dominant six, with good depth to boot.

Dubas definitely has a more challenging offseason this year compared to last. Trying to pick up Gamers on the cheap is not easy. You have to part with value to get value in return.

6'9" all day long.

It is a hard thing to do when you have 6 D you think are superior to him (I only think 4 are).

I really hope we are able to move Dermott for some futures or in a package for a higher-end forward and open up some spots for Sandin and Liljegren.

Liljegren is still young and I think he had a better development path than Sandin so far, so I think they still think highly of him.
A mid season trade, or next offseason. Re-sign dermott for about the same and lett both Liljegren and Sandin show they can outplay him. Not a lot of chances last season with 5, mostly 6 healthy guys ahead.

And free agent Dman this year is either completely uninteresting or unworkable cap wise so i'm sure both will get plenty of ice next season.

Yeah. Bogo was easily the best 3rd pairing D we've had in the past 20 years. Honestly, he's better than Holl. Such a shame.

this is the problem with "leaf" fans ....

lets compare a sheltered 13min a game guy with a 22 min guy and lets make it seem like that a comparison worth making.

I think the D overall does represent an area that Dubas has to keep focus on.

Yes, they're mobile, they're good with the puck, and that is a good compliment to their forward group... however, they're not all that big, mean, or physical without Bogosian.

I get that they're trying to perhaps insulate the potential loss of Rielly by keeping Dermott, but there's a lot of redundancy between Dermott, Sandin & Liljegren at the bottom of that lineup.

New Jersey signed Hamilton. The big dog is off the board, not that I thought Leafs would have the stones to go for it.

It will be an interesting piecemeal adventure here on in. This team is almost certainly worse than last years against tougher opposition for 82 games barring some real moves.

I just don't see them at this point.
