Elias Lindholm (with extension in place) for Byram+ just seems like it makes too much sense. Colorado gets Lindholm signed while his numbers have been depressed his last 100 or so games (seriously his current linemates are a snake bit Mangiapane and Sharangovich, on a team with a bottom 5 powerplay), and I’d wager he’d immediately start out playing his contract on a vaunted Colorado team. Calgary gets their future set on D with Byram added to the fold, and puts him in a pretty great environment to hit his potential.

Colorado addresses their biggest weakness as a cup contender, and Calgary gets younger. For an even larger return Calgary could even send another D back to offset losing Byram.

What pieces does Colorado even have to even make a trade for a 2C without giving up guys like Byram?

It’s baffling to me that it’s been 2 years since Kadri left and they have yet to find a 2C. Huge failure on MacFarland/Sakic’s part.

I would assume Ritchie, Gulyayev, and some draft picks would likely have to be in play as they have nothing else in system. But then there’s the cap…

First in the division, fifth in the entire league by point percentage and third in the entire league in g/pg. Yeah, huge failure.

Impressive without a 2C. And it wasn’t a shot at Colorado so relax.

The depth down the middle is still lacking.
I'm perfectly relaxed, thanks for checking.

No it isn't. It's a figment of the imagination of over zealous Avs fans.

Colton and a battered Johansen doesn’t exactly scream quality depth to me. Regardless, it’s still a really well balanced team, which is why they’re among the league leaders.

Why do you keep bringing up 3rd in g/pg like a broken record?
Because it's a measure of how well a team scores goals? What measure do you prefer?

They're top ten in CF% and xGF%. There is nothing indicating the Avs have a problem with offense and it's completely baffling anyone thinks otherwise.

If you have data that shows scoring goals is an issue for Colorado please provide it.
Canucks are 2nd in g/pg. And we have many holes around the line up. Like glaringly obvious holes and we are largely unproven.
What do the Canucks have to do with the Avs' roster construction?

….

You’re implying that being third in goals per game somehow changes the fact that your depth down the middle is still lacking.

Canucks have the best goal differential in the league. Look at our defense after Hughes and Hronek. Doesnt change the fact that we still lack 2 top 4 defenseman.

And yet the team continues to be one of the best in the league at scoring goals.

So the logical thing to do is trade a valuable defenseman so the Avs can finish what, first or second?

I wont be surprised if hes playing through something trying to shake off his injury-prone tag.

Colorado is never going to have amazing depth, that's the reality of a salary cap world. When you have superstars like MacKinnon, Rantanen and Makar taking up 30 million in cap space you won't have enough for good depth player.

presumably it is not all about only pts
it would be acknowledging BB value down, per OP
it would be a gamble ny could use him in the mix as Lindgren's replacement.

Rs would be gambling he would improve and that is not a given
You’re not trading Byram for a 3rd/4th liner.

Somehow I doubt Colorado even considers moving him. He’s a whopping 22 years of age and has had stretches of very good-elite play. There’s still a very strong likelihood that he’s a top pairing defenseman some day. Even if he’s been poor to start the year that does not justify moving an asset of his caliber

This seems likely. It's unfortunate the concussion issues he's had, they've set him back numerous times during key growth seasons and hot streaks.

Not to mention his price has to be higher than his market value. I can't believe there's a team with a similarly talented 2C on the verge of 1C that they'd move who is also relatively young and reasonably costed. Really should be a RyJo/Jones swap scenario.

Let's be accurate, ok?
In my hypothetical, it was Lindgren PLUS a solid prospect

Not sure where you get the 3rd/4th liner reference from...

ps - on unrelated item, DET looked very good Wed nite.
You guys appear to have turned the corner.
