I agree with you I don't think Hitchcock trusts Cole. Hitchcock doesn't seem to be the best coach with young players IMO. He seems to prefer his veterans. I think we are just lucky most of our young players had experience before he became our coach.

He did put Schwartz on the 1st line in place of Perron, gave Tarasenko a top 6 spot right at the start, and Cole has played with Pietrangelo more often than not. That's a good amount of trust in the young players.

I think he's stricter with defense and goalies. As we saw it took him longer then it should have to give Allen a start. Elliott was just so bad he had no choice.

Shatty and Petro are younger than cole and lead the team in ice time. Cole's problem is not Hitchcook distrusting younger players, Cole's problem is thinking he is in the same universe skill wise as Petro and Shatty. He needs to hit people and defer to petro when he has the puck to be successful, and he is not doing that. Maybe he learns and maybe he does not, time will tell.

So we have now been linked with Whitney and most likely Hainsey? Any others?

So we are targeting a PMD with size, who isn't necessarily physical. In that case, a worst case scenario is they can play with Polak on the 3rd pairing if they don't work out with Pietrangelo. In that case Jackman would be with Pietrangelo and Cole/Redden/new guy will be with Shattenkirk.

I doubt we are looking for a strictly physical or defensive type.

If I was in Hitch's position, I would have done it the same. Allen's play in Peoria wasn't really deserving of a start.

I don't really have a problem with Hitch's handling of young players this season. They know when they have been good and when they were bad.

I'm guessing Kuba is they guy we were looking at in Florida. Don't think he would be a horrible option, but definitely not anywhere near preferable.

Have their been reports of us heavily scouting florida?

It was one of the games that Army went to. Philly was Briere; Toronto was likely Kulemin, don't know who else; Winnipeg was likely Hainsey; Florida could have been Kuba; I know there were a couple other teams, but just can't remember them of the top of my head.

If reports are true, we are targeting a winger of vastly different styles, and a PMD with size.

Awesome thanks for the update, i remmeber reading about Philly and Toronto but must have missed Florida. I would like to get Kulikov, but that is probrably a pipe dream.

I personally think Cole's biggest problem is Hitchcock. I think if we trade Cole away and he gets to play for another coach he will really show his ability without the fear of sitting for the weak after one mistake. I think Cole is over thinking everything instead of just playing naturally due to not wanting to make mistakes.

I can buy/agree with this. I do think he is thinking way too much. I would hope his first instinct would be to unseat his opponent, but if he is threatened with taking a penalty even when he should....I see your point. I also think Hitch can be a major militant and scare the crap out of young guys like Cole and Schwartz. I see it in Jaden's play. He runs his butt off now. He is the first one to the puck. He isn't drifting looking for a play. He is the one trying to make it. Big difference in how he handled himself last year and earlier this year. He is initiating play.

I have watched several Leafs games this season, and I'm sorry, but I'm just not convinced that Kulemin is a good fit with this team. Do we need more wingers?

With all of the Toronto rumors swirling, I decided to watch the Leafs-Devils game last night. Just as I feared, Kulemin was invisible. During the intermission, Nick Kypreos mentioned that if the Leafs decided to trade Tyler Bozak due to his impending UFA status, he thought perhaps the Blues would be interested. I do like Bozak, but I'd be too afraid that he would be a rental. Besides, I'd just as soon pursue him in the offseason.

If we are going to make a deal with Toronto during THIS season, I'd really hope that Carl Gunnarsson would be coming to STL. He's always impressed me.

However, there was a player in last night's game that I still believe would be a good fit with the Blues: Henrik Tallinder. A veteran, shut-down LD with size. $3.5M salary on a contract that expires after next season. He perfectly complemented his offensive-minded, puck moving RD partner (Zidlicky).

Hamrlik is on waivers today. If we don't place a claim, we'd be stupid. LHD with size. Defensively responsible. Just what we need.

Probably won't get to us, but you never know.

Another factor now is that we are going to have to start shifting contracts. We are at 49, and if we were to get Hamrlík then we'd need to shift someone before signing Arnott if that is on the cards.

wonders if the Hammer is a even older version of Redden... :shakehead

Anyway, if claimed guess we should find out. Better the Hammer then Kuba, I'll pass on him.

Whoever claims Hamrlik will be responsible for the rest of his salary and his full $3.5 million cap hit. Which the Blues could take the hit....???? I don't know. We do need a LHD that can just be Pietros stalwart partner.

We can take it, but I doubt we put a claim in for him.

I was just going to post that Cole was being scratched for the third straight game after Wade Redden just played the worst game by a Blues defenseman since Rich Pilon.

But looks like JR corrected his previous tweet and Cole is back in tonight.

I remember when someone posted Andy Roach could be viable bottom pairing defenseman.

Ha. The Goose. Yes, he might've been worse than Rich Pilon during the Colorado series in '01.

I can still hear the echoes of my uncle screaming profanities at him during the playoffs.

Pretty sure Goose is the reason I started cursing.

Haha wow. Andy Roach and Kevin Dallman. Haven't heard those names in a long time. Man those were dark days.

Hopefully if the Blues add a d-man (whether it's a trade or claiming Hamrlik, I don't really care) we can somehow get Redden off the roster.
