Obviously its not his ideal spot but he hasn't looked out of place at all.

You don't think he looks out of place, come on, i know we disagree on asset managment but you are not blind. Ideally cole would be on the third pairing this year, not playing next to Petro going up against the likes of Toews, Kane, Perry, Kopitar, ect.

I am not blind, I have been able to see that Cole has played well

Different owers with more money. This ownership group can not afford the loses other groups have had in the past.

That isn't your argument. You are not saying that we can't afford 2 guys, you are saying we need them on the same pairing. Pronger and MacInnis weren't paired together, except on the PP. Neither had big name partners.

It is clear that we need complimentary players, not another elite/high end.

Is that why he is sitting tonight so that Redden can play?

No he's sitting because Redden needs to get playing time as well, Russell has been sitting out lately and now its Cole's turn, he will be back in the lineup Sunday.

If he were playing well he would be playing.

Bernie was talking on the radio today that he was sitting due to his game last night. Mentioned Russell and Cole are struggling. Watching the game last night, I'm not real sure why he didn't just run Toews into the goal or at least lift his stick. That was bad. He has played well lately. Last night was another story.

You can't point to our record in the faceoff circle and then ignore the fact that Bailey is not any better than Alex Steen. He does have an all round game, but he would not be playing C in St. Louis when everyone was healthy. It is just a massive downgrade from Perron on LW.

MacDonald is the main piece coming back, but he is far from a sure thing. He is not an automatic top pairing guy on a playoff team, the only way he works in that role is if he perfectly compliments Pietrangelo here. That is not a risk we can afford to take with an asset like Perron. Plus, I think he goes to UFA next summer. I'm not sure you go from being massively underpaid for the last 3 years of your contract to taking a discount on your true value o your next deal.

Perron for Kulikov, or similar, makes a lot more sense.

Like I mentioned, what other forward would you include with MacDonald to make it a fair deal? We all see things a bit differently. I see Bailey having something to prove and the pressure is off. Not final pieces, but pieces in the deal worth the Blues including in the deal. Add picks either way or another/different player. They have other centers.

MacDonald is worth a 2nd and a decent prospect IMO. He's good/decent, but he's in a bigger role because he is on a bad team.

He still playes on the second pairing. We need someone to play on the top pairing to otherwise we will continue to have Cole/redden type players going up against the other teams top lines. And look how well that has been working out for us.

I strongly disagree.
Cup teams have proven that you don't need a "Stud top pairing" to win with. The Majority of the Cup winners in recent years had a top pairing that consisted of a "Star" type playing next to a steady stay at home type who would typically be classified as a #3 or #4 guy(Mitchell, Orpik, Seidenberg, Beachemin, Kubina, Kronwall).

This team does not need a some big time minute muncher. The guy won't be needed on the PP at all, and he'd fight to even get minutes on the PK(Pie, Polak, Jax and Shattenkirk would get first dibs). What we need in Pietrangelo's partner is somebody who plays good, solid, consistent defense at even strength and brings a bit of an edge to the game. Redden, Cole and Russell are failing because their defense is inconsistent at best and they bring nothing in the physical department.

You can get a guy who provides what we need for 2.5-4 mil. There is no need to "even things up". What we need is to find somebody who actually compliments Pietrangelo's game, not somebody to replace Shattenkirk.

Blues looking at Nikolai Kulemin. Sounds like Toronto may be interested in Schwartz.

http://www.truehockey.com/articles/Blues-and-Leafs-On-Each-Others-Radar-01

Strickland mentions it there, and also somebody said Darren Dreger mentioned the same thing on the radio last week or something, so there's gotta be some truth to it.

God I hope not. I have no interest whatsoever in moving Schwartz for Kulemin. We don't even need more wingers. We need a center or defenseman

Schwartz and Cole for Kulemin and Gardiner? That makes the most sense if Schwartz and Cole are being discussed. If Schwartz is involved, then Gardiner has to be involved as well.

I like Kulemin, but not for Schwartz.

Yeah it would be interesting to see what defenseman the Blues are looking at. I can't see Toronto trading Gardiner though. I think they'll trade someone else to make room for him.

I would probably make that deal, not sure that TOR does though.

Agree on the second point. I really like Kulemin, I don't believe he'll ever hit 30 again, but he fits how we play really well and can play in all situations. Not a chance I'm giving up Schwartz for him straight up though.

A loss tonight and the Blues would be out of the top 8 in the West. I would definitely keep an eye on this team.

Gunnarsson and Kulemin together would make sense. Not sure I would involve Schwartz though.

Not sure why the Blues would trade Schwartz or Cole, two cost controlled players. The Blues are dirt poor and need these types of players which allows us to keep others. Cole, Tarasenko, Schwartz, Rattie and Jaskin fit this description.

With the Blues lack of toughness, they better not trade Stewart. We have way too many guys who don't / can't fight.
