101.1 had a guest on today from some hockey site (escapes me) who suggested Kyrou + Perunovich + Bolduc should be enough to get it done. Yeah, that’s not happening. Kyrou alone would be an overpayment, IMO, given the very little leverage Calgary has (assuming MT indeed wants out).
I keep going back and forth on whether I'd trade Kyrou. Today I'm against it. Wait until the offseason to try and sign Tkachuk and trust in Doug to make the best decision between trading Kyrou next offseason or re-signing ROR next offseason. If I'm trading Kyrou, they're not touching our top prospects.

If we are trading Kyrou, then that's all they are getting. And if someone else gets him, so be it.

I don't even want to trade for Tkachuk this year. If he wants to come I'd rather roll the dice and wait a year if he hits UFA. Trading for him means we will most likely have to trade Tarasenko to someone (probably get a 1st and a prospect). Then trading for Tkachuk might mean we lose Kyrou plus a 1st. So is getting Tkachuk plus a 1st+prospect (Tarasenko trade) better than Tarasenko+Kyrou+1st? I don't think that makes us a better team this year. I'd rather wait for the chance next season

I still don't think trading a fast playmaking Forward for a slow power forward makes sense. Wouldn't you want both of them on your team?
It really comes down to cap. I haven't worked the exact numbers, but I imagine it's 2 of 3 with ROR, Tkachuk, Kyrou. Maybe Army has a solution to keep all 3, but I imagine one has to go, and could see it being Kyrou or ROR.

If both Krug and Tarasenko are out (like rumored) we could definitely keep all three.

And again, I don't see the Blues getting Tkachuk. It's not a very Armstrong like deal.

Losing all three of Kyrou (Tkachuk trade) Tarasenko (move to create capspace) and Perron (free agency) to acquire Tkachuk would be Franchise defining. And probably not in a good way. If we're getting Tkachuk we have to keep Kyrou.

I understand the whole connection with St. Louis, but honestly, I don’t want him on the Blues or what it would cost to get him.

STL gets: Tkachuk (extended)
NJ gets: Tarasenko
CGY gets: Neighbours, Scandella, Kostin (or a B prospect), 2023 1st (STL), 2023 1st (NJD, top 10 protection)

Who says no?

Calgary has zero leverage but they are going to get two first rounders in one of the best drafts in years and they get Neighbors and some other B prospect? We are in a silly time where Blues fans are reaching a critical mass of Wanting Something so they are just hurling whatever just to get it over with.

As long as Matty is re-signing for 9mill or less im in the minority and would move Kyrou for him, especially if we can attach Scandella as part of the deal:

Kyrou + Scandella for MT

If Calgary is going to burn it all down for futures anyway, I'd love to snag Hanafin out of there too. It's a pipe dream. We'd need to move Krug, Scandella, and Tarasenko to clear enough cap space for just this year. I don't think there are enough teams who can afford and want Tarasenko and Krug, nor do we have enough futures to pull both guys without getting value back on our cap.

If Army could somehow pull that off though while keeping Tkachuk's cap hit @$9.5 or below, I'd fly to St. Louis to start hauling the marble for his statue myself. Until I fly back next year to knock it down when he lets RoR walk for lack of cap space :sarcasm:

I’m not moving Kyrou for MT. I’d rather trade Tarasenko for a 1st and offer two 1sts + Perunovich.
Yeah, I get the reservations on Kyrou, but the best case is kinda there right in front of your eyes too, so no way I am making a move like this and punting on the possibilities with Kyrou to get there, when if MT has interest in being here, you are buying only one year.

It’s a lot easier to gameplan this in a year when Tarasenko is expiring anyway. To break our backs to get there a year early doesn’t make a lot of sense. If they want some immediate return and can coordinate a deal with Tarasenko, with additions obviously, then it would make sense to us. Sounds like they are looking at futures, so then we’d need to do something like what you are suggesting, and the prospects need to have longer runway than a Kyrou, who is absolutely electric right now even though it comes with some warts.

Doug has done very well in trades so I trust him to make the right move. Signing FA on the other hand he is more hit or miss on that but he knows how to trade

If you trade for and extend MT, you can almost expect Kyrou (or O'Reilly) needing to be moved for salary cap purposes.

Only way I would include Kyrou in a MT trade is if Noah Hanifin is also included in the deal.

Now you are talking about massive changes to the roster with Scandella, Tarasenko, Krug and Kyrou needing to be moved. For a team that was a Cup contender last season, it seems like too big of a shakeup to fit MT in.

Imagine seeing Tkachuk play against Edmonton and thinking, "let's get that guy" for more money than everyone on the Blues by a lot

Matthew Tkachuk in the playoffs this year: 12 GP, 4g, 6a, 10 pts, -6
Robert Thomas in the playoffs this year: 12 GP, 2g, 4a, 6 pts, -6

If one of those performances earned the largest contract in Blues history, then the other must deserve more money than everyone on the Blues!

Kyrou is every bit as impactful, albeit in a different manner, as Tkachuk. It would be a huge mistake to move him. Jordan will be an 85-95 point player for the next 7 years at least. I get that Tkachuk likes St. Louis or whatever and that's pretty cool, but if he likes it so much let him come as a free agent next year. Unless Calgary is willing to go Tarasenko and a small add for Tkachuk, which they almost certainly wouldn't and shouldn't do, then pass. We're building around Kyrou, Thomas, Schenn, and Buch up front with the hope that Bolduc/Neighbours/Snuggerud/Future early picks help supply the rest of the top six. Don't dismantle that for Tkachuk just because he likes the city. David Perron loves it too. Didn't seem to matter.

All i have to say a line of MT, Thomas, Kryou would be pretty good i would imagine..
I think by moving out Scandella and vladi that would be enough cap space. Than i would add Kostin, and a 1st and even snuggles. Then the problem would come next year when ROR and Kryou are due contracts.

If the plan is to add Tkachuk, we aren't going to be able to add additional salary on top of that. Any return likely wouldn't be in the lineup.
I guess my point was, what team is taking on Vladi's contract without any cap coming back? that he would agree to go to anyways
maybe.. NJ? maybe
