I don’t see the Blues trading Scandella this offseason. Army tends to look at things like a UFA year as trade deadline addition, so….. he is likely viewing him that way.

I think much of why Scandella hasn’t been dealt is we don’t want to deal him unless we have better option. And if we are shopping Krug they may need Marco. He played well down stretch last year.
As frustrating as he can be. In a limited 3rd pair and PK role he’s a positive asset. Him and Perunovich could make a really nice 3rd pair for us.

No need to move him until we need to use his cap space anyway. May as well take advantage of our defensive depth if we can.

Though I’m still predicting a deadline deal for a forward and he might have to be the cap casualty if needed

Are we still shopping Krug/ Tarasenko?

If we dealt Krug and tank would have space for Tkachuk at 9.5. Just saying.

True, but that D-core gets thin quick without a Krug replacement.

What about Scandella and Tarasenko trades for futures that lead to a Tkachuk deal? Or maybe Senko is included in it.

Tkachuk-Thomas-kyrou
Saad-Ror-Buchnevich
Neighbours-Schenn- Barbashev
Walker- Acciari- Torpedo

Krug-Faulk
Leddy-Parayko
Perunovich-Bortz/Mikkola

Krug-Leddy-Perunovich down the LD? Yikes! Someone has to defend.

Next year cap could be a problem. That’s why I had Krug heading out.

That’s what the guys on the right side are for lol
Presumably would have Peru on right with someone like Miko on left.

Trueeeeeee. Maybe parlay a Krug trade into a chycrun trade that includes scandellas cap going somewhere? Create 5 mill in space combined then gain 2.2 M in space from Tarasenko-Thomas contracts. Let Barbashev walk….. then pray to lord Stanley one of our current kids is ready for significant NHL minutes.

Looking on cap friendly, that’d leave us 18.9 mill to sign Kyrou, ROR, Torpedo and Acciari and let Barbashev walk. Kyrou @7, Ror maybe stays the same? Or takes a 6.5M army special pay cut? The. Fill in a few depth roles with veteran FA’s or give an Alexandrov or bitten nhl opportunity. Then we’d be in decent shape cap wise with a roster roughly looking like:

2023-2024
Tkachuk-Thomas-Buch
Neighbours-ROR- Kyrou
Bolduc- Schenn- Saad
Xxx-Acciari- Torpedo
Xxx

Chycrun-Faulk
Leddy-Parayko
Mikkola-Perunivich
Xxx

Binner
Hofer/xxx

Obviously this is never gonna happen but it would be awesome…..and if we get through that year, we benefit heavily from the cap ceiling rising after the covid lock

Couldn’t the Blues sign Tkachuk to a 1 year deal? I’m not sure what his qualifying offer has to be but I’m guessing it’s lower than 9.5
Tkachuk is not getting anything less than 10M. He's like top 10 league wide in pretty much every category. He could probably get 11-12M on max term. I would guess he might accept a 10.5M offer at 7 years here in STL just because he could make so much more money here in marketing.

Is it smart? It would likely handcuff us for the next couple years until the cap went up.
We also probably wouldn't be able to resign O'Reilly.

Here's is my take on the next year.
I was able to retain O'Reilly... but at the cost of depth and maybe not being able to resign D-men in '24

What do ya'll think?

The UFA class of 2023-2024 includes:

MacKinnon
P. Kane
J. Toews
ROR
Tarasenko
Larkin
Huberdeau
Horvat
J.T. Miller
Bertuzzi
Sanheim

I really don't think it's worth trying to forecast at this time. There are too many pieces up in the air and as we've seen, anything can happen and we could literally see ROR return to Colorado or Nate Mac sign here if the Blues offer him a big enough bag.

Blues will likely retain ROR and remain potent offensively for the foreseeable future even if and when Tarasenko leaves.

The summer 2023 UFA class of defenders is awful. There's no help coming on that front.

For all those dreaming up Thomas & Kyrou deals:

After signing Robert Thomas to a record-setting eight-year, $65 million contract extension Wednesday, Armstrong indicated the next priority is to get another young budding star — Jordan Kyrou — under contract. Kyrou’s deal almost certainly will be in the neighborhood of the Thomas contract.

I’ll guess $7.7 AAV

I don’t think so, as I think Thomas as a C has more value - but we’ll see.
agree... pair that with the fact that Kyrou forgets where the dzone is for most of the game and I would guess 6ish (hope for 5.5 or something like that, but..)

then ya gotta wonder what they do with ROR
