Perron should chase the money if the Blues aren't going to allow him to return/retire on his terms. I'd be all over him if I were Edmonton. They've suddenly got a ton of money to play with.

If Perron is on their radar, I'd imagine playing on a wing with either McDavid or Draisaitl would be hard for him to pass up.

Tkachuk comes with 1 year of control and will require a massive contract. Flames fans need to get on board with how that impacts his value.

I mean, I kind of get why they are freaking out a bit. They seemed so close to be a true cup contender and now it looks as though they are losing 1 of their most valuable players and possibly losing the other next year. Panic is spreading across their fanbase. Just search the #flames on twitter, the posters are pretty distraught.

I understand why a lot are like this, just think it would help them to start mentally preparing for what could happen. They still will have some nice pieces, but their contending days are over if they lose both players. Only hope is to extend Tkachuk or move him for an absolute haul.

I assume since we don't have enough cap space now to offer Perron a deal (that may change if we trade some people), that we have a LHD in mind. I haven't heard much on Leddy at all this offseason.

True but some people just can't separate it. I used to be like that until I realized it was pretty unhealthy way to live. Not saying things like Perron potentially leaving don't affect me I just don't allow to control me. A lot of posters on this website can't make that disconnect, maybe because of their age or their level of maturity but when things start to go bad they melt down or search for implausible solutions.

And sometimes it's easier to deal with things when you have faith and trust in the GM of your team. At some point our window will close and we'll be in rebuild mode, but I trust that Army will have a summer that will keep us close enough to Colorado to put us in a competitive position.

It's also easier to maintain your cool when your team has won recently. If Binnington doesn't stonewall the Bruins in game 7, the general mood around here is likely much worse than it is right now. Flames haven't seen a Cup in a long while, and now they are on the verge of seeing their core disintegrate in front of their faces without much to show for it.

This is the thing that kind of worries me about this offseason. We may be stuck not able to sign Perron right away because we're waiting for clarity on Tarasenko, but that means Perron could end up signing elsewhere because we're stuck waiting on Gaudreau and other dominos to fall.

I'm sure Armstrong and company will maintain communication with someone like Perron to avoid something like that happening, but I still worry we could lose the game of musical chairs. I suppose I also have a little trepidation due to what allegedly happened with Pietrangelo where Armstrong inked Krug without letting Petro's camp know the Blues may be moving on.

And I'm also worried that Perron may simply be out of the price range. This is his last chance to sign a bigger deal and the best opportunity he's had to sign one since his recent performance is the best of his career and even if he gives us a bit of a hometown discount that may price him out of our range, which would be a shame, but I won't blame him if it happens.

I'm also concerned about plenty of things with the team over the next year, especially how they're going to handle their UFA's, but I just want to address the Krug+Pietrangelo thing.

It was already evening and Pietrangelo was in Las Vegas when the Blues signed Krug. The way Pietro's camp framed how he was shocked they signed Krug is one of the flimsiest attempts at image-spinning I've ever seen. The dude was almost certainly gone and was holding the Blues hostage. You may not buy Armstrong's claim that they were still interested in Pietrangelo and they'd have to make some creative moves to make it work; but if Pietrangelo truly was shocked, then he intended to stay with the Blues all along, and some combination of his own naivety and the game of chicken his agent dragged him into is the source of his shock.

And I also don't think any player is entitled to being notified before a team signs another player. I hated all the discourse around Petro and extending because it was pretty clear he was going to be leaving for quite some time. Petro and his agent would've made it known that he wanted a NMC pretty early on, and Army would've known that was something he'd never budge on. Hell, I think agents at this point know it's something he'll never budge on. If O'Reilly tells Army he wants a NMC, Army is probably already planning moves to replace him.

The most important trade we need to make first is unloading Scandella’s contract. Every other move hinges off of that.

At this point I would even be willing to package a decent prospect with him if that facilitated the move.

The guys is just dead driftwood.

Strickland makes it sound like his sources don't know where the talk about Tarasenko is coming from. Either Army is playing a strong poker game, or he isn't moving and will walk next summer. And to me, this tells me that Army doesn't want any additional expensive forwards with term that will make things complicated for 5-8 year extensions for Thomas/Kyrou. Maybe his agent is going directly to the national insiders, and maybe the insiders are just doing logically speculation.

The guy is just not a team player period. We probably should have moved him right after the cup, to be able to recoup some assets. And his recent plays in Vegas has been less than stellar, and certainly less than what I would expect from a #1 D man. And even on the VGK, he has been surpassed by Theodore in terms of importance to the team.

Come to analyze his career, most of the achievements have come from success because of the talent that surrounded him. He basically was a semi-sheltered D-man that played with overall an excellent defensive corps; with JBow and Parayko taking the difficult minutes and top competition. He never really stood out as a bona fide top pairing D-man outside of his first couple of seasons. Overall looking back, I'm glad he is gone with all of his personal drama, only wished that we could have gotten some futures before losing him for nothing.

Someone is gonna blow this up with some fancy stats supporting how awesome Petro is/was.

But, to me, none of it matters anyway.

Parayko is a better player, and certainly is more defensively responsible, and doesn't play the creampuff style that Petro is so fond of. Through most of his peak years, he was largely covered by Jay Bow on his defensive lapses, who was probably overall a more effective player if you look back at the facts with a cool head. Most of his statistical successes can at least be attributed in part to his excellent support cast.

Why can’t people accept that Pietro was a top-10 defenseman with the Blues that wanted a contract the Blues weren’t willing to give? Why is it so goddamn hard to say that without trying to make one of the two parties seem lesser through revisionism? Honestly, that’s the most annoying thing whenever his name is brought up. Someone has to make up an enemy in the whole situation and justify it no matter how stupid it is.

This is exactly right. He left and got a contract that worked better for him. Everyone here would do that so I don’t get the reason to poop on what he has done with us

With Johnny Gonedreau, Flames can’t afford to let Tkachuk walk too. Would you do something like Kyrou and Barbie for MT? Would they? Kyrou seems like would be perfect replacement for Johnny hockey and Barbie would be Tkachuk lite.

And they get more years of control. I know folks say we could just sign him as UFA, but that first supposes he reaches UFA and second that we can create the cap space. This guarantees both.

Thoughts?
