Therein lies the rub. I have no problem with parting with the assets for him, but Philly seems like they wouldn't accept/be a good landing spot for our salary. Krug is worse than a lateral move for them, Tank probably passes, and Barbashev/Scandella isn't enough cap space for us in the future. We'd need corresponding moves, which makes it invariably more complicated and a longer shot. And forget trying to figure this out midseason.
For sure! A more difficult scenario.

3-way trade possibly? Tarasenko goes to one team (somewhere like NJ, NYI, plenty of $$$), Provorov comes to the Blues, picks and prospects sent to Philly
That’s what I was thinking. 3-way involving Krug.

There is some risk that Provorov is not a top pairing caliber defender but if there really is a struggle to move the guy as suggested then a trade without giving up a first and not sending Tarasenko in the deal could be some 2d+Blais voodoo.

I could see Tarasenko and/or Krug going to Carolina. If Carolina sees Neiderreiter and/or Trochek walk, maybe Carolina is a Tarasenko suitor, just spitballing that floor conversation between GMs. Carolina needs a PP QB after the DeAngelo trade, maybe there was even some Krug pitching going on since Slavin and Pesce are lockdown but they don't have a true PP QB. They had Hamilton then he left then they had DeAngelo doing it and now he's gone.

And Carolina would be far more attractive for Krug than Philadelphia, imo.

In other words, on the short list.

CGY seems to have been displeased with Hanifin in the playoffs, and depending how Gaudreau goes, might be willing to let him loose.

CGY fans often describe him as very similar to Bouwmeester, and I would have to agree. Except Noah is much younger, cheaper, and hasn’t lost his offensive game yet. I think he would be an excellent add if available.

Im not sure how I feel about Chychrun.

Provorov desperately needs a new change of scenery, and not only is he available, but we might be able to get him cheap. All things equal, I’d still choose Hanifin over Provorov becuase Provorov has very little offensive upside and Hanifin could still turn into a legit #1, imo.

Those that know more about Chychrun and can convince me he’ll be healthy, please convince me. Lindholm would have been perfect outside of cap hit, but I still contend, as I have since at least last year, that Hanifin should be our target.

Everybody makes mistakes, but watch Hanifin on their series losing shift. He doesn't cough up the puck even in a traditional sense where he's trying to make a play you can understand - rather, it's one of the worst giveaways I've ever seen. I've seen Flames fans insist it's because he was being overplayed, but that's the sort of play that is inexplicable in the first place, but also haunts someone. Maybe Hanifin only gets better and never looks back, especially on a veteran team who has multiple Cup winners; but I can't say I'm not concerned about his being damaged goods to some degree.

Just wanting others opinions, but I was wondering, is Provonov really better then Krug. To me Krug is a number 3 dman, and a true offensive PP master, who isn’t terrible in his own end. To me he is a better dman than Shatty.

I don’t watch Phili, but are we shuffling the deck a bit with moving him for Provonov. The fact Phili is willing to move on from him raises some questions. He was a -20 last yea playing 24 minutes per night. But I didn’t do much of a deep dive into him dive stat wise And I don’t watch Phili.

would we be better off trading Tarasenko for futures and just resigning Leddy? how would we have done with Krug and Leddy in the line up in the playoffs. Moving on from Scandella and Barby would get us there.

Also, who are the real suitors for Tarasenko? NYR don’t have the need or money. NYI, beyond Raty I don’t see much there unless Romanov was a chess move. Same with NYI,

Carolina, about the only piece I would want would be Morrow, but I doubt he is available. and I am not sure he would be ready for another year. No real interest in Necas, who is way more of a playmaker.

If Hanafin took that awful play to heart, that could be a valuable moment for the rest of his career. If he acknowledged how bad and dumb that was, it probably doesn’t happen the ‘next time’, so he’ll (theoretically) be a better player because of that gaffe. I’d absolutely go hard for Hanifin, especially if Calgary decides it may be time to reset a bit if/when Gaudreau walks and Tkachuk is found to be too difficult to be extended.

Provorov and Krug are pretty different types of players. I believe Provorov is much more of a defense first guy. He has not not had a good partner the last couple years and I think he's a big bounce back candidate.

Hugely consequential week and so many moving pieces. Blues have veterans such as Krug, Tarasenko, Scandella, Barbashev who might available to GMs who lose guys to free agency or need a veteran solution.

I think Leddy was impressive enough in the playoffs that some team will pitch him a deal a little out of our AAV and/or term. If a team offers Perron the Pavelski deal he probably goes there, the Blues seem very unlikely to compete with that.

I am worried that Armstrong will feel obligated to make a big fan base move if one or both of Perron and Tarasenko depart, and that move will be Tkachuk.

I don’t know that he is appreciably better, but he seems like better fit for our needs.

I honestly can't say I know much about Provorov, but it's a worthy question to ask. I remember there was a lot of hype when he was a rookie, he threw some big hits and was being touted as a future star on the blue line. However, it seems he's hit a plateau in his development, which could be because of Philly's struggles or not.

I must admit I'm a bit nervous acquiring a guy at his salary that has so many question marks, especially since it would likely mean losing a key player or players like Perron, Tarasenko, Barby or whoever. At this point, I would rather sign a guy for a bit less than gamble on Provorov but of course that depends on what Philly is asking and a few other factors. As Brian mentioned earlier, there is no rush to make a big move right now so I hope Army considers all options carefully.

Regarding Tarasenko, I'm starting to feel like he won't be traded at all this offseason or at least it doesn't sound like Army is actively pursuing a trade. Strick just mentioned the other day that he gets the sense Vladi will start the season with the Blues next year, but of course everything is subject to change.

I just rewatched the play. It was certainly a turnover but I was expecting someone much much worse when someone above described it as one of the worse giveaways they’ve ever seen. Hanifin was pressured by McDavid, quite literally the fastest player in the league, and coughed it up. Then via a coverage gap by the Flames (Hanifin, Lindholm and Gaudreau), McDavid finds a gap and Draisaitl finds him with a pass. Hanifin certainly coughed up the puck too easily there but to me, that was more two of the best forwards in the game making a great play than an egregious turnover. I would absolutely take Hanifin on my team.

That is not what I saw. I saw a guy with no plan just chip the puck to nowhere. Regardless of the skill of the players on the ice, he was not under extreme pressure and I don't even know what he was trying to do. It would have been infinitely better simply to eat the puck in the corner.

I'm not saying I wouldn't take Hanifin. But there are times when players have a gaffe like that and don't fully come back from it in one way or another. Especially if Calgary fans are correct in their assessment that he had been playing over his head. Players who get pressured to perform at a level they're not ready for sometimes end up damaged goods.

I would take Hanafin in a heartbeat! He is exactly what we need.
Flames have like half their team unsigned at this point. They could go many different directions, but if they lose JG I could see them wanting high scoring winger. Don’t know that Tank would be willing to go there, but I could see them desiring Kyrou..

About Provorov's offensive capabilities, I think he has more to give and will shine with a better team with more skilled players up and down the roster. As a 21 year old he put up 17 goals, only 2 of which came on the PowerPlay. Couple seasons later he paced for similar. You know whose career trajectory he reminds me of? Justin Faulk's.
faulk stats.jpg

Biggest difference between the two is that the book on Faulk has never been about him being an elite shutdown guy, but Prov's supposed to have that potential so you can expect less offense in exchange for more responsible play. I think he comes too dear at 6.75m but he's young and will be 28 when the contract is up. Faulk's always been the guy who can create offense but he had his up and down years as well and I see a lot of similarities in the numbers.

Looks like any Provorov trade would be for picks and prospects.

Apparantly the Flyers promised Tortorella that they were going to try to compete. Besides that this is utterly stupid, that also sounds like that they really need actual players instead of just picks and prospects.

Barbie, Miko or Scandella, and our 1st. That gives them replacement on D, quality forward, and some futures. Really seems like this could be framework
of deal that works for both sides.

We don't have a 2nd next year, so I would hate to give up a 1st and not have a pick untill the 3rd round. So it would need to be a '24 1st or we'll have to get another 2023 1st or 2nd. Being competitive is nice but staying competitive for a longer period of time is even nicer.

The Flyers were reportedly the team mostly after Tarasenko last year, so if a 'Provorov to the Blues-deal' ever sees the light, I wouldn't be surprised if they try to include (a signed?) Tarasenko in a deal. There were also some rumors that the Flyers were open to trading Koneckny (salary is a bit on the high side), I wonder what it takes to get both: Provorov as Colts new defensive partner and Koneckny as a younger, and a bit cheaper, Tarasenko replacement.

If we made deal like I am suggesting, can always recoup picks by dealing Tank (or Krug) elsewhere too.

I think they want cap for a specific free agent like Johnny G.

A hypothetical move to acquire Provorov and move Krug (Krug’s salary) is less about Provorov replacing Krug, amd more about forecasting Perunovich into parts of Krug’s role sooner than later. I’m skeptical that Peronovich has shown us as much as some on here claim, but you can tolerate some decline in the PP from Perunovich if it makes the Blues harder to play against when the defensive match-up pairing is on the ice. I think it’s also more about how the team view Perunovic’s likely prime ceiling at this point.

Philly is making mistake after mistake.
They’re tight against the cap, so if Provorov moves, it’s gotta be for picks/futures.
