With the no trade clause, Tarasenko will get some say in where he goes, which would increase the likelihood of him signing an extension.

1st plus a decent prospect is really close to 2 firsts. The new statistical models for valuing draft picks are much lower than they used to be.

If there’s an extension as part of a trade that would obviously change the return. I was referring to his value as a one year rental.

I'm not saying he'll bring back the Blues a 1st and a blue-chip prospect....but he won't need assets attached to him to be moved. If his contract were waived, I believe it would be claimed. You don't think Army could get a 6th for the guy? A 3rd? A 2nd? Look around the league at the teams that suck and could use a proven, puck-moving, PP-QBing, LHD. This isn't Brent Seabrooke or Marc Edward Vlasic we're talking about...this guy is a proven commodity in the prime of his career signed for a relative bargain compared to the top-tier D-man of today. The trade board show teams such as Detroit, NYI and BOS all having fans who'd be open to giving up things for him. And it's not like he's shit the bed like Justin Faulk did in yr.1. All things considered, his two full seasons to this point have been pretty worthwhile.

You're correct in stating that we don't know what he's worth until he's sold. But I have a feeling that his worth is greater than you're making it out to be. Just because the Blues fans don't value his skillset (largely in part to what we've got in house, and as a perceived weakness to the current roster in general), doesn't mean the rest of the league feels the same way. Back in 2006, Krug would have been a Godsend for this organization.
Exactly right on Krug. Look at the UFA D this year. With Letang coming off board, only Klingberg offers what Krug does. And his ask is apparently $8mm+ annually. That doesn't mean we will get a 1st back for Krug, but I can't see scenario where we have to attach pick to get rid of him this summer.

Mayfield is a guy I'd absolutely look at if I'm the Blues. I love Bortz but agree that we can't count on him to play every game.

Leddy-Parayko
Krug-Faulk
Mikkola-Mayfield

I would be fine with rolling those pairs to start the season.
This is my dream

Chychrun-Parayko
Krug-Faulk
Mikkola-Mayfield

Perunovich-Bortuzzo

I don't get the love, or even like, for Mikkola
Mikkola at 27 or 28 is NOT going to magically learn not to treat the puck like a grenade when under pressure

Because he's a big, physical guy that can skate well for his size and is a good penalty killer, and still pretty young and cheap. He also elevated his game in the playoffs when other guys got injured and we needed him the most. There's plenty to like.

No, he's not a great mover or handler of the puck. But pair him with someone who is (not Bortuzzo) and he would be just fine on the 3rd pair. That's why Mayfield, who is better at moving the puck, would be a good addition.

It is unclear exactly what happened between Tampa, Columbus and McDonagh in regards to convincing the player to waive his NTC. I doubt Columbus "committed" to claiming him on waivers, but I think it is pretty likely that Tampa brought up the potential of putting him on waivers if he wouldn't give them a short list of cities to go to.

I bring this up because this tactic has been discussed as an avenue to try and get a short list out of Krug. Like McDonagh, I believe that Krug would be claimed by someone off waivers even though the remaining term/price of his contract will likely get ugly at the end. If we're seriously looking to move Krug, this discussion should be taking place with his agent.

Army publicly drew a line in the sand that he will give out lots of full NTCs but is extremely hesitant to give out a NMC. This is exactly the reason for that line and it would be foolish to believe Army wouldn't consider using it as a leverage point.

I think it is unlikely that we are seriously shopping Krug. Unless we have a couple other things already lined up, it doesn't make sense to further weaken the left side of the blue line. We aren't better simply by moving him and I don't see much in the UFA market to suggest that we can better spend his money there. But if we've got other balls in the air that would necessitate moving him, I think we can get a short list from him.

I don't hate that contract for the Pens. He's worth much more than that AAV right now and he is the same age as Crosby. His age regression should happen right alongside their window fully closing and triggering a rebuild. Who cares about that dead cap once Crosby is done and they are in the tank?

I'd wager he outperforms the AAV every year where the rest of the Pens roster is plausibly contending. And it is too soon to stop putting a competitive team around Sid.

That’s clearly a “let’s go for a couple more runs while Crosby is still around contract.” Great AAV for Letang in the short term, but they’re clearly buying that with term.

Can’t lie, even though I get their logic I’m shocked they went that long.

Me, too. He is 35+ so this contract will have no buyout benefits available for cap reduction, but there is always the LoLTIR option if his play falls off enough.

And now there is another report (Strickland, so proceed with caution) that indeed the Blues shopped Krug a few weeks ago and found zero takers. Extremely believable reaction to Krug being available.

Where do you see it? He was correct when he said the interest from other teams for Tarasenko was never really there.

Ok Army here is the plan. Just contact the Sens and get the 7th for a bunch of throw ins because apparently Dorion is in stupid mode right now

So if there's not interest in Krug and (my own opinion) probably not much in Scandella either, it really does point to Tarasenko being the guy to clear cap space.

I'd be pretty surprised if he's still a Blue next week.

This is one of those reports that means less than it seems. If someone had paid our price we would have dealt him, sure. But basically nobody was making deals a few weeks ago. People just feeling each other out. Draft and free agency start spur deals. Doesn’t mean he will get dealt, but teams step up when they think they have to. And the next week is going to see flurry of activity.

You might be more right on his value. Debrincat got a top 10 pick a second and a third.
Maybe a first and a little is closer to Tarasenko's value. Either way I trust Doug to make a good decision.

Even if it’s “only” a first and a decent prospect, it’s still a hell of a lot more than we would have gotten last offseason. He did himself and the Blues a huge service by coming back, being a good teammate, and having a great year.

if he gets moved, I bet it’s tonight.

They've been underwhelmed by Chabot's powerplay skills (3 PP goals in his entire career) and might be interested in a Krug or a Perunovich if I were to spitball

Looking at Weegar from Florida. Senators making some noise.

‘Also talking Kane(50%) retained to……. Colorado, yikes
