it might be 1 mill too high, but FA’s aren’t beating our door down to come to STL. We have to overpay a little to get them. Just my opinion. I could be wrong.
You may be right that the Blues have to overpay a little to get FA’s to sign here. Surprising with all the alumni in the area to raise their families but it is what it is. I do think the Krug signing was a knee jerk reaction by Armstrong as it was announced, I believe, the day after Pietrangelo decided to sign with LV. 7 years at 6.5 with a NTC for a small, primarily offensive D just seems like to much to me.

Armstrong is on record to say he'll worry more about 2023-24 closer to next year. At the moment Blues have around 36mil in cap space for next offseason.

Tarasenko (who is being reported to still wanted to be traded) would clear a large amount of cap hit this year. Which I think is more on his mind at the current time frame.

ROR plus Thomas plus Kyrou plus Vladi is 20.6 million
remove Vlad after next season that is just under seven million each for the three players left
seems like letting vladi walk after next year along with a rising cap solves that problem

Let vlad walk next year or trade him now and gain an asset?

The Blues have, according to spotrac, approximately 35 million in cap space for 2023-24. However that is for 10 players. Then we have to sign ROR, Thomas and Kyrou and then fill out the roster. I would think it will take at least 20 million to sign those 3 players and that may be conservative. You then have 15 million to sign 10 players. Now how likely do you think that will happen? Sorry don’t think Armstrong is that good of a GM. He’s very good and I’m glad he’s ours but some other decisions will have to be made. And I hear that he says he’ll worry about that later but I really don’t think he is that short sided. I guess we will see.

I am for moving him, if we do it for one of Philis dmen. Otherwise…. Depends on what we could get.

I don't think it's a St. Louis thing but rather the nature of free agency. If many teams are all offering roughly the same contract then you've gotta do something to persuade the player to sign with your team, whether it's an extra year or NTC or whatever.

When Petro followed the money to the desert, we really needed another top 4 D and preferably an LD who can lead a power play and Army went out and got one of the best in the biz. Who would have led our PP if we hadn't signed Krug? I don't think he's overpaid at all, just a convenient whipping boy. He was sorely missed when he was out of the lineup.

He was also the best available D man after Pie.

I think signing Leddy and trading Krug would be a great move. Leddy is better defensively and the offensive dropoff isn't that great. Save 1.5-2m in cap. Perunovich is an elite PPqb. Would likely have to find another LHD somewhere but opening up some cap and gaining tradeable assets will help. I still think Mikkola is a top 4 dman though and wouldn't mind giving him another chance.

The offensive drop off would be huge if Leddy were to replace Krug.

Krug has been pacing for over 50 points in both seasons he’s been with the Blues. That mimics his career in Boston where he was routinely a 45 - 55 point player between 2016 - 2020. Leddy hasn’t been in that range since the 2017-2018 season. I’m sure you could make the argument that Leddy is better defensively. But don’t act like Krug could be replaced so easily in producing points whether 5-on-5 or the PP.

Krug is basically the same player he was in Boston. The problem is that Parayko has taken steps back so we are looking for Krug to do more and we need him to do more to cover for Parayko being worse. I don't hate the contract but it would look a lot better if Parayko was the 2018-2019 Parayko

What? Yes, Krug is the same as he was in Boston and this season we finally used him as such, which is why he and Faulk were as successful as they were. Krug isn't asked to do more for any cover of Parayko. Parayko for majority of the season was very good and that was with partners like Mikkola and Scandella.

Parayko hasn't taken a step back. Parayko never, at any point, has had a two way game. He is big, fast, mobile, minute muncher who can play in all situations and those are highly valuable players. He is the same guy. He's a darn good player. It's just that any person who suggested, ever, that Parayko was a real #1 defenseman, was always manufacturing their own truth. The new narrative is that he declined.

Husso’s rights to Detroit for pick 73. Would have liked to see him stick around but not entirely surprised. Wonder who we’ll bring in to backup. Can’t imagine we’d want to have Hofer sitting the bench. He needs to play every day.

I think one that that became apparent that is making some have a more negative view of him, is that while he's always been pretty decently skillful with the puck, you don't want his partner to be a worse puck-mover than him. One of the reasons he and Bouwmeester worked so great, they both could skate and move the puck. That's why Leddy was such a natural fit there. Parayko is probably above average at moving the puck, but when you are on the ice against the top competition, that's something that can be exploited, and you need a partner that's as good or better. That's why sometimes when he's with Scandella and Mikkola they can be good, and other times it's utter garbage.

Leddy is the better player at this point in their careers. Leddy can keep up with fast skaters and Krug has to waterski and hope the team survives the PK.

That's a good deal. It's harder to hit on 2nd and 3rds, but those players very much can become middle 6 and bottom 4 type guys, and still has some upside of knocking it out of the park. Getting another lotto ticket for someone we weren't keeping is good and better than I expected. I figured we'd only get a late round pick, glad I was wrong.

Oh I’m not complaining. A 3rd for his rights is a good trade for us. Just shocked at the number he’s getting from Detroit.

4.75M for Husso for three years is hilarious for a goalie whose resume consists of 8 great games in one January once. Binnington won a Cup and got 2 x 4.4. Yes I know RFA/UFA is the whole difference, but absolutely goodbye to Ville. He is just a guy.

Detroit has plenty of cap space and just need a bridge to Cossa. If he works out, great, but if he doesn't, I don't think they'll care much. Similar to Nedeljkovic. If he's a bust at 4.75M, it's still only 3 years and they most likely won't contend in that stretch anyway.
