The Russians have been dominate and even carried this team at times. DA should double down on the Russians and trade for Zadorov or Sergachev to improve the left side.

Come off-season trade O'Reilly+ for Matthew Tkachuk and make Tarasenko the captain.

Jeff Marek suggested in a recent podcast that he heard Tarasenko wasn't even interested in being captain. Just hearsay, not 100% fact, but I don't think he'd say it if he didn't feel pretty confident it was true. As sad as it makes me, I think Vladi's days here are numbered.

Didn’t Tarasenko do an interview in Russia where he said he was disappointed he didn’t get it? This just feels like a guy saying “oh well I didn’t want it anyway!” since it’s clear he’s not a candidate.

I'd love to keep him, but I'm ok with trading Vladi, as long as we get fair value.

What we cannot do is let him walk. We let Backes and Pietrangelo walk for nothing, which was acceptable with Backes cuz he had little value by that time and the Pietro thing.....well.....whatever.

I find that hard to believe considering Tarasenko actually said he was upset he wasn't selected as captain after Pietrangelo left. Maybe that desire has faded and he still wants to be traded. He looks to be having a lot of fun out there playing with Buch, Barbie and Thomas...

Backes got a pretty big pay-day. We let both go without trading them because we were trying to win a cup. We went to the conference finals the year before Backes left and we were running away with the division when the trade deadline approached during Petrangelos walk year. Then Bouwmeester went down and Covid happened.

Yeah, I get all that. Very different situations than this current one with Tarasenko. Both Backes and Pietro were UFAs.

And I am in the camp that Pietrangelo never had any intention of staying in STL anyway.

He said he was surprised that neither he nor Schwartz were "selected". I don't think selected was the word but maybe considered? Since they were the longest term Blues after Petro left. Being surprised doesn't mean he was upset or angry.

I know, man. It’s so hard to parse out what they really mean. As fans, we are left with interpreting cryptic offerings.

I just think it’s cool that we are all such passionate Blues fans, no matter what our stripes look like.

DeBrusk has asked to be traded and Bruins apparently attempting to oblige. TSN says Blues have had interest in him in past. Think Bruins want Scandella? Might actually be good fit for them.

Loved Debrusks game a couple years back. However, I also loved Scandellas when we traded for him around the same time.

I haven’t had much viewings of Debrusk the last couple years. However, I’m just not sure unless we are making that trade to make another what the point of adding another winger is. I get it’s pretty desperate times right now and Scandella isn’t really helping too much so it’s not a huge deal. However, I still believe our focus if we were to trade doesn’t really need to be for a forward unless we lose a guy long term

Interesting idea, but I don't think we should trade Scandella for a forward just yet. If Mikkola was ready to replace Scandella, I would think about it, but Mikkola isn't there yet. Sadly, we can't replace Scandella right now, unless it is with another LD.

imo yes he is .. mikkola needs to play from here on out ... i didnt watch the game tonight , but i know he can bring more upside in his game than marco ... marco brings no physicality , lackluster d and a hefty chunk of change that wasnt needed in the first place ... there was a reason why he would of been the odd man out tonight if not for bozo going covid

edit : im not saying i want debrusk ... just saying marco needs out

I'd be down for that. However, I do wonder where we're going to play him. Maybe a forward has to go back to the Bruins in that case. Just don't have a clue who I'd be willing to add.

I'd absolutely take Giordano, even if just as a rental.

And on DeBrusk, I'm always skeptical of players that seem to regress at good organizations. I know there will be exceptions to that, but I'm not sure he'd be worth the flyer.

San Pedro, CA.
Saad-O’Reilly-Perron
Kyrou-Schenn-Buchnevich
DeBrusk-Thomas-Tarasenko
Barbashev-Bozak-Sundqvist
Kostin, Neal

Krug-Faulk
Mikkola-Parayko
Perunovich-Bortuzzo
Walman

The forward group would be even more stacked, but the loss of depth on the D could hurt us. However, if we do eventually move Vladi for that heralded top 2/4 LHD, at least we have another top 6/9 forward added to the group.

We should definitely be looking to get out of Scandella's contract. Mikkola and Perunovich have looked very capable so far, and if Mikkola regresses Giordano would definitely be a great piece to add.

Remember when we used to dream of lineups like this?

I wouldn’t give up a lot for DeBrusk but if he comes at a fairly cheap price, I’d be okay with it.

We don’t necessarily need him this year, but starting next season he could be a valuable piece because I still think Tarasenko is getting moved at some point. Maybe it’ll be in the offseason but I don’t see any way he’s still on our roster in a year. DeBrusk could be a decent option to help replace him.

I wouldn't mind grabbing DeBrusk. But, I'm starting to worry about having too much depth up front and not enough in the back. If Perunovich and Mikkola can grab the 2LD and 3LD and run with it I'm cool with giving them Bridge deals tho.
I mean right now we are playing short on forwards and carrying 8 D, so it's not like we have too much depth up front. It's partly because we don't want to risk Walman or Mikkola on waivers, but carrying 8 D for the season is not an ideal option.

This is sort of how I see it. If we can get him cheap and test him out as someone that can help replace some of the offense that Tarasenko brings, then great. If he doesn't work, either bring him back cheap or just view him as a rental.

And no, he won't replace Tarasenko, but Kyrou and Buchnevich in elevated roles, and DeBrusk filling in on the secondary role would.

Exactly.

The idea is to replace Scandella + Tarasenko (they make almost 11M combined) with a different forward/d-man combo that makes amount or less. We go cheaper on the forward in order to get an upgrade on D.
