Juuso Välimäki is questionmark. Dude has potential, but isn't getting ice time in Calgary. There was quite interesting article in Finnish about his situation. He think he has improved his game, but doesn't get ice time. Had lot of injuries and now healthy. He is frustrated in Calgary.

I havent watch his games so hard to know what he is.

These are players which Army should tackle on. Were/are high potential, but hasnt florish in their team. Maybe new place could help him.

But that is the key for success. We need real top2 LHD and having Krug with 6.5mill.$ is really bad for his purpose.
I think you can win a Cup with Krug being a valuable, contributing member of the team. He's better than Vince Dunn, and they won a Cup with him. I don't think he can be one of your top ice-time guys on defense. He should get the 4th or 5th most minutes and be deployed properly, but I have no doubt he can tilt the ice in his team's favor in certain matchups and situations. He's not the problem if there's a better LHD playing ahead of him. But guys get exposed when they are played too high in the lineup. Asking Krug to be the 1LD will be about as successful as when Jackman was the team's 1LD. No fault of the player; that's on the GM and coach.

Krug was second in ice time for Boston in 18-19
it was a coin flip finals, so Boston could have very easily won the cup
the narrative that he isn’t good enough to be #1 LH d-man on a stanley cup team is demonstratively false
They had Chara and Carlo to solidify the D. Also, they had that Grizzle guy and McAvoy. I think they had John Moore as their 7th d-man. That's outstanding depth on defense.

Right now, the Blues defense is barely adequate.

Agreed with the trading Vladi as the path of least resistance posts. I think that even if he hadn’t asked for a trade, DA might have considered trading a healthy and performing Vladi anyway. It’s pure asset management - the Blues are going to need his money off the books to extend younger, emerging forwards for long term contracts.

Vladi is one of my favorite Blues of all time, and it will suck - but I totally get it.

If they fall out of it, he could be potentially had for futures at the deadline. Alexandrov and a 3rd? We don't have our 2nd and I don't want to deal our 1st for him, but he could potentially make nice partner for Parayko.
Seattle can expect a 1st. Given the market and what teams need he is someone you can play in all situations and eat minutes. He is also Cup hungry and it’s his last chance very soon. It would suck but if Lindholm is off the market I doubt they get less.

I was going to suggest Sergachev but that contract is ugly: he’s owed a 7.2 million qualifier, has arb rights, and is 1 year removed from UFA after 2023.

If he’s moved, whoever picks him up better be ready to pay him. He could be the highest paid 2nd pairing guy ever.

Giordano will be, most likely, a rental. Then again, maybe he has a couple more seasons left in his legs and he takes a "team-friendly" deal in his twilight, if there is even a need or an interest at all.

The price for a rental, even as old as MG, is a 1st. Do we want to give up our 1st?

I don't.

If the price is that high, then I would want DA to do something different.

Will largely depend on the Blues health at the TDL.

He may get Kraken a 1st, but I don't think I'd pay it.

Hard disagree. Boston had one of the more underwhelming defenses. The one thing I respect about Boston is how competitive the culture is in that lockerroom. Their first line has insane chemistry making it much larger than the sum of its parts and pretty decent forward depth with a solid goaltender; take those things with stronger leadership and an expectation of winning and you get to the cup finals if you play in the Eastern conference with Tampa getting bounced in the first round and Washington not as motivated after winning the cup the year before.

DA is unlikely to pay 1st for pure rental.

Which would be most preferred:

Lindholm-Parayko

or

giordano-Parayko

Lindholm will help defend and shutdown the best players on the best teams in playoffs. But giordano brings more to the table in terms of creating offense and moving the puck in transition.
If we’re thinking both as pure rentals. Who would u prefer?

Understood and I appreciate it, but they got results. In my opinion, they showed a little too much bravado and it hurt them.

Lindholm hands down. We have enough defense generated offense, particularly with Perunovich waiting in the wings. We need a Bouwmeester type, someone who excels defensively.

It’s almost like folks haven’t seen how much our D has struggled without Krug this past week.
The D has been struggling all season, that didn’t just start to happen when Krug went out.

Krug and Scandella aren’t terrible players but it’s gonna be hard to add the guy we need with their salaries already on the books, while also finding ice time for Perunovich.
