Noah Beck was also drafted the same year as Kesse. But yes we need to stock the cupboards
We have a decent amount of promising defensive depth with Kessel, Tucker, Loof, Galloway (sleeper imo), but we need more right-handed shooters and natural RHD depth. Keeping an eye on Beck is worthwhile cuz understanding who can play well on their "off side" helps.

Beck is a RHD. He might play on the left I’m not sure. At the time him and Kessel I believe we’re considered questionable picks. Now they’re definitely looking better

Has anyone seen Beck play? Looks like he had something a of breakout year at Clarkson last season but I honestly forgot we drafted him until a couple months ago. At least we know he exists (unlike Anton Andersson). Wonder if we end up signing him to an ELC...

I'm fine drafting a RHD if he is the best player available, but we absolutely don't need to make it an organizational priority this draft. Faulk and Parayko just turned 30 and 29. They are under contract for 5 and 8 more years. Parayko will likely start sliding down the depth chart before his contract expires, but Faulk should be a top 4 D man for all of his conttract (or at least almost all). He turns 35 in March of the final season of that contract. Those two are going to be soaking up 45ish minutes on the right side for the next 4-5 years.

Again, if the best player available is a RHD then we should absolutely take him. We shouldn't be avoiding RHD prospects. But I don't think we need to be actively trying to allocate draft resources to the position in the upcoming draft. If we don't draft one this year, then I want them to start focusing on the position next draft so that we have a 22ish year old RHD prospect behind (or already surpassed) a 25ish year old Kessel to push for RD time as Faulk/Parayko start being eased out of the core.

Parayko was drafted 2012 (86 overall) was trusted in the playoffs in his debut 15-16 season
Faulk was drafted 2010 (37 overall) and in his 2013 debut season was holding down top 4 minutes
Leddy was drafted 2009 (16 overall) and in in 11-12 held down top 4 minutes
Pietrangelo was drafted 2008 (4 overall) and in his 10-11 debut season was holding down top 4 minutes

So the impact top 4 defenseman time horizon is third to fourth season after draft. Drafting that caliber of defenseman this year projects him onto the roster in the 24-25 season. At the back end of that season Faulk turns 33 and Parayko 32. Whether or not it's a RD or LD we could use an impact defenseman by then.

Bolduc scored the GWG in the 2nd period tonight. Quebec leads the series 2-1 and has a chance to advance to the final with a win tomorrow.

Bolduc has not been that good honestly in this series so far but the rumour is that he's playing despite a hip injury.

Don't tell that to blues fans, we're going to automatically want to trade him.

who's been the most pleasant surprise among your prospects? obviously toropchenko's emergence has been impressive, but i'd consider him an NHL player at this point.

I don't know if it is necessarily a surprise, but Zach Bolduc scored more goals than any player in the CHL that started the year at 18 or younger this past season, including Connor Bedard. He was on fire in the playoffs as well but has apparently been nursing a hip injury the last couple of weeks, right after dealing with a bout with the flu that burned through the Quebec locker room for about a week.

what's up with alexandrov? seemed to have a decent year in AHL, pretty productive in playoffs too.
Potential bottom 6 center. I'm not sure how many on this board watch Springfield enough to know how likely a chance he has to make it. I'll also say Toropchenko isn't that much of a surprise to us that watched him at prospect and pro camps. He always looked like someone that would be an effective 4th liner.

Toropchenko was my top prospect and now it is Alexandrov. He can carve out a Barbashev-like role.
