Gausman leads baseball in fWAR and leads the AL by a wide margin. Ray, who got the same money, has given up .5 more on his ERA and his peripherals suggest that he's been about that.

And your "facts" about Berrios are blatantly false:

If you post that garbage in here again, I will report you for trolling since you post the same baseless crap in the TFC thread.
Go look up his starts against Yanks when he was with Twins .. he was aweful aweful aweful .. if you can't handle facts then you can't be helped

Phillips: Blue Jays fired Montoyo because 'they don't want things to slip away' - Video - TSN.ca

The Blue Jays have announced the firing of Charlie Montoyo after four seasons as team manager. Bench coach John Schneider will take over as interim manager for the remainder of the season, with Casey Candaele being appointed interim bench coach. TSN MLB Insider Steve Phillips has more on where things went wrong for Montoyo, who was generally liked by everyone in the organization.

A 5.78 ERA in 14 INNINGS?
He is an OK 3/4 guy in AL east .. I am not saying he is brutal .. but 6 runs against vs East heavy's is not my idear of #2 guy .. Ray won Cy for a reason he is a legit#1 in AL east .. when you have 2 top end guys in your rotation who get you wins when they pitch even in AL east then you got a chance .. much like Hockey is about tenders BB is decided by pitchers .. we simply put DON'T have 2 #1 starters this year like we did last year

What? Manoah and Gausman = 2.

I won't even get into FIP, but you're saying that Ray and his 2.84 ERA last year was a #1 and Gausman with his 2.86 is definitely not? Hopefully Gausman can drop that ERA by 0.02 soon so the Jays will have two #1s again!

Lot's of emotions these days being a Leaf fan and Jays fan but this comes as such a relief... i honestly didn't think it would even happen.. Almost every player on the roster underperforming. Lineup card, bullpen usage, starting pitcher usage, base running, defense , pinch hitting choices,]utilizing challenges...hell even equipment problems i've never seen in 40 plus years of watching baseball. John Schneider doesn't need to be special... he has the look of a man that won't be allowing analytics to make every single decision for him.

I think it would be good if the team became more professional... in every aspect.

Go Jays..

The lineup is still same. So what's the difference? If John was already running things before, we will need more than a managerial change to truly get this team off the ground and cruising.

Ray was Cy winner and won us 13 games
Manoah won us 9 games in half season
When they went in we won most of time even when they didn't get decision .. this is what an ACE is

Gausman is a career 1 game won and 1 game lost type of pitcher which is what he is this year for us .. again an OK 3/4 guy in rotation

Too many of you believe whatever hype you get from Cleveland cheapos on these 2 guys Guasman and Berrios who are both ok east pitchers both at a 3/4 level .. bottom line in AL east you need ACEs who can compete against Yanks/Sox bottom line

Steve Phillips says there was disconnected with Montoyo and the players this year. He heard from sources that Montoyo was too optimistic and nice with every player. Says that works with some players but others need a fire let under them. The players wanted a leader.

Says you can’t be a cheerleader and hugging the players all the time like Montoyo did.

Also was a report that the player were upset that Montoyo was publicly throwing the players (Kikuchi) under the bus. Players weren’t happy with this.

Says Charlie was trying to be everyone’s friend and that doesn’t work from a manager. Maybe a bench coach but not a manager.

As yes looking at record to judge a player. Guasman and Ray's stats are identical, but yet one is a #1 and other is #4? You are off base here and thats a pattern here.
Da truth hurts

If you rely on wins to evaluate pitching, you should not post in a baseball forum

Ray has only 5 more games than he's lost. Thats proves Ray isn't very good as you said.

I feel like that's always the story with those "player's coach" types.

Everything is all hunky dory when the team is young/trying to take that next step to relevance but the moment expectations are cranked, those coaches tend to fall and fall hard. Last year Charlie could get away with it because not a lot of people had hopes the Jays would even come as close as they did to the playoffs. Not the case this year.

I'm not saying you need an asshole to come in and right the ship, but you need a guy who can balance being a friend and being their leader. Go too far in the other direction and you alienate guys/make them want out.
