I would still seriously consider moving Stroman for an extended Price. Keep in mind it would be Stroman +.

Price will be a 20+M/year player and the deal will be at least 5 years if not more. Stromans ceiling is extremely high and as he is is already a middle rotation starter. You're giving up 5+ years of fresh armed, cost controlled Stroman (plus others) for 100M commitment to an aging David Price with a ton of miles on his arm.

It's not black/white

That was my whole point.

Price might not have been the best scenario, but for logical reasons I went with that because he is on the market.

I have zero desire to see Stroman moved, but there are some scenarios (admittedly they are remote) where AA would have to consider it.

The White Sox are 1.5 back of the Jays I really don't see them dealing Samardzija to them. Maybe a team that's kind of locked in to a playoff spot would offer enough. Otherwise White Sox should probably ride Shark, Sale, Quintana this year.

As @JeffPassan wrote, #Rockies’ players upset with team’s handling of Tulo. Exec: “You do lose something when you lie to your superstars.”

Wouldn't be shocked to see the Jays sell high on Devon Travis.

Why the hell would they do that? Play Goins at 2nd then? Travis isn't playing above what he's capable of and dealing him now would be foolish.

who does the bluejays ideally pick up for pitching?

Ideally: Cole Hamels. Pretty much go all in with this current core.

Hamels
Dickey
Beurhle
Estrada
Hutchinson (then Stroman)

with RP:

Osuna
Sanchez
Hawkins
Shultz
Loup
Cecil
Hendricks/Hutchinson

That's a lot better then what we had one/two months ago.

Might not be top 5, but definitely a better rotation.

He might deal for a rental (isn't Hawkins a rental?), but it won't be a great rental. It will be a bottom of the rotation guy whose deal is up after the season.

Yes, but lets not pretend he's the focal point of this deal. He's a throw in to temporarily help a struggling pen.

I really don't see AA trading for a #2ish rental pitcher. Just doesn't seem like his style.

That's what I said.

If he adds a rental pitcher, it would be a bottom of the rotation kind of guy that wouldn't cost much.

Until someone brought up him giving away Cecil Fielder to a Japanese team when his club's biggest issue was getting someone to be a DH...

Every GM, even the best, has a deal that got away on them...

He'd just lick his World Series rings and smile.

It's nice to see Colin Cowherd back on his feet and posting here in the hfboards blue jays thread.

Seriously though man, if you feel the need to say "might sound racist", you probably should keep it to yourself. I mean, damn.

What is wrong with that take? I said it "might sound racist" as I was singling out a certain demographic of the team. I never said they were stupid or monkeys or anything like that. So before people jumped in with the Cowherd comments as I figured they would.

What I said was they don't have the same professional attitude as some of the other guys on the team like a Donaldson, Martin, Tulo.

As I said you saw it last year and the year before the latin crew would be in the back corner of the dugout laughing and having a good time no matter the score up big or down big....the rest team wasn't part of that clique. It was a know fact there was a latin clique on the team.

So again nothing was said about skin color or intelligence but more they like to have fun regardless of the score or moments in a game. I think AA is trying to get rid of that and bring in dirt bags and grinders. Donaldson, Martin, Tulo all grinders and dirt bags who play the game hard and understand it is not a party but a job to win games and aspire to make the playoffs.

So it sounds like the jays were shopping Reyes. Offer him to the Mets and they turned it down

Well a number 2ish is still better than anything the Jays have so would be the defacto number 1. This team has multiple bottom rotation guys. When Buehrle is your best pitcher, that tells you how bad it is.

its like the leafs trading Marner Phaneuf Percy for Stamkos ?

No, not really. Maybe kind of, depends on how you look at it.

I don't think Phaneuf is as far gone as Reyes (who really can't play SS anymore).

And I don't think Tulo ranks as high overall in the game as Stamkos does.

Probably will get some arguments, but I see Stamkos as easily a top 10 (maybe even top 5) player in the world. I'm not sure Tulo would be the same. I can easily think of 10 players I would rather have than Tulo.

Not a Reyes fan but Jose Bautista definitely should be included in the same group as Martin, Tulo etc.

My guess was it was like doing Nylander, Phaneuf, Leivo for Weber

What is Weber's age?

Everybody should remember that Tulo is 30. As good as he is, his decline has probably started. Just not as dramatically as what Reyes has experienced.

I was thinking it would be closer to Phaneuf, Marner and Percy for Ovechkin.

Am I the only one who is getting increasingly annoyed with Bautista for always arguing balls and strikes. When was the last time Donaldson did that? Or Martin, although he was annoyed at Joice (I think) this past series.

yeah maybe that because of the age
Stamkos' injuries i was thinking as a comparison
