its not going to happen this year but I can see JBats and EE going into there options years being dealt in the offseason to restock. The new core moving forward will be Donaldson, Martin and Tulo.

I actually see Bautista retiring a Blue Jay. He goes no where. If the Jays can find a competent outfield I can see Bautista being our Ortiz for another 5-7 years. I can see EE being traded though for pitching help and retaining Colabello and Smoak.

I agree with Zaun

I am glad Reyes is gone for his personality. Look he was a fun guy and always had a good time but slowly they are starting to break up that latin click and bring in grinders warriors who want to win and not being in the dugout like it is Cinco de Mayo party every game. I was tired of seeing him joking in the dugout when they were getting their ass kicked. Always yuking it up never serious and that played thru the latin group.

Melky and now Reyes gone. You have Donaldson and Tulo both grinders and professional guys who play hard and have respect from their peers to do so as well.

This might sound racist but I truly think that was part of the rational behind the moves bringing in dirt bags as they call them.

Keep it classy. I didn't like Reyes because he was declining in a lot of areas. None of the reasons for not liking the way Reyes played had to do with him being latin. If Donaldson is laughing when the team is down 6 runs would you trade him?

Their window to contend may be even wider next year. I can't see them being moved until the 2016 trade deadline if things haven't gone well up to that point.

Hey, there Colin Cowherd :sarcasm:

There's plenty of ways to interpret Reyes' enthusiasm. I doubt there was much else other than ridding yourself of a bad contract and getting the best SS in the game motivating this deal.

Hey Swervin, remember when we joked yesterday about finding a GM to take Reyes' contract? :naughty:

Are you serious?

You really think a Major League GM, who has his job on the line this year, would make a move based on a player's race?

Reye's nationality has nothing to do with anything. All that matters is his production and Tulo is a more productive player.

Yeah, I still don't have him figured out.

Sometimes it was frustrating watching him smile and laugh while eating seeds on his annual DL stint in the middle of a slump, but being miserable in the clubhouse and dugout doesn't do anyone any good either.

They are a better team this morning then they were last night, and while they lost some decent prospects they still have pitching prospects available to be traded if the right deal is there, and you know AA won't move them for a 2 month rental - it will be for somebody with control while he has time to restock the farm again. That's the reason for the trade, possibly along with Reyes and his awful defense the past month.

I'd take on Ryan Howard's contract before trading away Stroman. That's how much you don't want to trade him. You simply can't. He's already a major league #2.

Come on.

I love Stroman, but the guy has less than one year in the majors.

If the right deal comes along they would have to consider moving him.

For example, what if they can get David Price for Stroman+ and Detroit is willing to give Toronto a window to speak to Price about an extension (like the Dickey deal, just during the season) and Price was willing to sign in Toronto?

He's not exactly ideal. I really doubt AA trades the future for a rental. My gut tells me if he makes a trade for a pitcher, it will be for one with a couple years of control left.

He might deal for a rental (isn't Hawkins a rental?), but it won't be a great rental. It will be a bottom of the rotation guy whose deal is up after the season.

EE for Prince... i got a feeling

Ugh. No thanks.

Similar production, EE's contract is way better (although Fielder has clearly been better this year).

Last thing I want is to see the winter's financial flexibility to get some pitching disappear with an albatross contract like Fielder's.

Honestly, no. Maybe I'm being a homer or buying in to Stro too soon but the kid is a stud, I was crushed when I heard about his injury in the spring.

who does the bluejays ideally pick up for pitching?

probably a name we haven't heard about.

Think of all the pitchers under 30 with multiple years of control left. Make a list. Eliminate the ones connected to the jays or that are available. Chances are it will be a surprise. Wouldn't shock me if the jays went hard after Sonny Gray, Shelby Miller, Danny Salazar, etc

If the jays do go the rental route...don't be shocked if they pick up Iwakuma for cheap. He hasn't been connected to the Jays at all but a decent gamble.

I would still seriously consider moving Stroman for an extended Price. Keep in mind it would be Stroman +.

Price will be a 20+M/year player and the deal will be at least 5 years if not more. Stromans ceiling is extremely high and as he is is already a middle rotation starter. You're giving up 5+ years of fresh armed, cost controlled Stroman (plus others) for 100M commitment to an aging David Price with a ton of miles on his arm.

It's not black/white. You're better off rolling the dice this year and signing Price to a massive contract in FA than trade Stroman

Stroman last year...

20 starts, 3.0 WAR

Hamels this year

20 starts, 2.7 WAR

In fact, Stroman's WAR would put him tied for 14th this year behind Sherzer, Kershaw, Sale, Kluber, Keuchel, Greinke, Arrieta, Archer, Price, de Grom, Gray, Cole, and Buchholz.
