Leaf fan coming in peace. I only know a tiny bit about Lindberg. What is his potential/projection and maybe a style comparison ?

Leafs fan here. You will like Phaneuf, he's a good locker-room presence and a well liked leader contrary to the opinions on HF. If his job is to play #2 / #3 minutes he will be fantastic. I'm pretty stoked because I've wanted DP to go somewhere for a long time where he wasn't on my trainwreck Leafs team and prove the haters wrong that he is still a good defenseman.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the well wishes!

This isn't real is it? We actually got a top 4 D?? Is Phaneuf even good anymore? I thought he was slumping in the last few years.

He's nver been a #1 Dman and he was forced to be.
He's actually pretty good and having a pretty good year. He should fit really well as a #3 in Ottawa. It's a perfect fit honestly.

No #1 C will hurt in the long run though...

COLIN WHITE BROSKI.

But on the reals, imo we will have the assets necessary to acquire one should one be available or should it be a dire need for this team moving forward.

IMO, the moment Giroux becomes available we will land him. We will also be in on RNH.

We just shored up our top 4 defense for next 2-3 years. That's not considering guys like Chabot/Claesson/Englund/Jaros knocking on the door in that time. We have a lot of assets, including this year's pick/player to dangle.

The real money isn't the issue..7 million against the cap for 5 more years is just brutal.

it would be if we were ever a cap team or anywhere near it, but since we are not it is 100% completely irrelevant.
In fact the ONLY thing that matters is the real money.

so i guess what im saying is that you couldnt be more wrong in this instance.

I like Chabot a lot. But Methot and Phaneuf are signed long term. Would make it more palatable. Chabot for Drouin.

Hoffman Turris Ryan
Drouin Zibanejad Stone
MacArthur Pageau Lazar
Prince Smith

Then the choice of a bunch of guys for 12/13/14 spot.

Really strong forward group with the improved defence. And it is cheap with Drouin on ELC and a cheaper RFA since he won't have emerged yet.
Yeah still no on Chabot ,being moved .Getting Dion means we can ease him into the lineup ,and 3 years when Methot,s contract is up we should see him ready to assume his spot

Leafs fan stopping in. I think both teams got what they wanted out of this. Pretty even trade in my opinion.

Also, Dion and MacArthur are very close friends. Clarke was a groomsman at Dions wedding.

Cheers.

Awesome trade. Got rid of dead weight for legitimate top 4 dman.

Next do Neil, Weircioch, Chiasson and Borocrap for a top 6 LWer. Include puempel in the trade or something.

I'ma take a hard pass on any Chabot/Drouin deal, but the Phaneuf trade definitely means that Wiercioch is avail if they're looking for blueliners... :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

Acquiring Phaneuf makes Wier big time expendable. Before, we always were hesitant to trade one of him or Cowen for anything other than an upgrade on D, because we relying on whichever one we didn't trade to solidify himself as a top 4 D.

Now, our top 4 is pretty much set in stone. We have Wiercioch, Claesson, Boro and Wideman who are all capable in the bottom pair role. We have Chabot who is a year away (not next season but 2017-18).

We can move a bottom pair Dman and not miss a beat. I see Wier getting moved for picks or part of a package for a top 6 forward.

Excited to seeing Phaneuf on the 2nd pairing.

He's LIGHT YEARSSSS better than anything we've iced on the 2nd pairing.

Also, I think this is the best defense we've iced since 07'.

Unless you think Chabot will be in the NHL at 19, Phaneuf and Methot will be almost done their deals by the time Chabot should be kicking down the door for a top 4 position.

Realistically, Chabot spends another year in junior, and then a year or two in the AHL, and then starts in the NHL as a bottom pairing guy. So, 3-5 years.

I don't think acquiring Phaneuf makes it that much easier to move Chabot because his development should stagger with Methot and Phaneuf declining/contracts running out.

Anyone know anything at all about the other guys outside of Frattin and Phaneuf?

Rupert used to play for the Knights with his brother, they put up some decent numbers together on the same line but nothing that made you think they would play on an NHL roster one day. Decent guy for Bingo but thats about it. Mainly known for his physicality and 2 way play.
