Lol teams tank to get a franchise player/impact player. Why tank when we've already lucked into a 2 time Norris winner and one of the best defenseman/game breaker of this generation?

This.

Everything is this.

We have the best player in the world.. DON'T WASTE HIM ON TANKING.

edit: TL;DR Karlsson is the franchise, they'll be time to tank when he retires.

Excuse me (and the other 6) for having it with the team doimg NOTHING to improve for the future and watching us finish 8th every year and hardly ever getting a good pick.

But yeah no let's go to the playoffs and lose in 5 again and again and again

I'd argue trading for Phaneuf and clearing out dead weight is doing SOMETHING.

However, the reality is (regardless of your personal view) - when there's still 30 games left in the season, and you're only about 5 points out of a playoff spot you are still in the playoff hunt.

Doesn't even take a magic run like last year to make that up (which actually closed a 12 point gap and had us looking at third in the division as a possibility).

Stumbled into the finals? We tore a path through the Eastern Conference playoffs and left lots of bodies in our wake. We hardly stumbled in.

Are you JP Allard by chance?

He's not entirely wrong. That team hit a real hot streak at the right time. IIRC we weren't even in the playoffs in January of that year.

Basically the top line carried us very far and full credit for that, but ultimately it was not as talented a team as years past, and the quick collapse in the following years would indicate that maybe we werent quite that good outside of the top line.

This cannot be mentioned enough.

Key part to the trade, if you ask me.

I'm just hoping it doesn't make Chabot palatable to trade for Drouin. Since the rumours are that we're still interested and Stevie Y wants one of Chabot or White in return.

That and we're possibly the only team in the NHL to not go on a decent run of wins this year. Our win against TB was our first back to back wins since November. That's ****ing absurd.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Phaneuf is a lefty that plays better on the right side. So if Boro and Phaneuf could become one of the most feared shut down tandem in the league.

If he is playing second pair, it puts everybody in their right spot. Including himself.

Methot-Karlsson
Boro-Phaneuf
Wier-Ceci.

I don't like that. Boro in the top 4, Wier with Ceci... just not good. I'd rather have:

Methot - Karlsson
Phaneuf - Ceci
Boro - Wideman

To all the Sens fans...

Don't buy all the HF anti-Phaneuf bull. He's a very effective top 4 D that does almost everything well. He is absolutely hell to play against, not just because he's the biggest open ice hitter in the game, but because he's nasty as hell with his stick and board work. If you want to go to the net, or engage in a board battle, you are going to pay.

Doesn't use his shot nearly as much anymore though. Rarely see him rip a one timer from his famous spot, but he's quite effective in the O-zone; well rounded offensive player but nothing flashy. Great penalty killer, minute muncher, professional player on/off the ice.

Considering we have some guys who can feather a pass on the PP, I'm kinda hoping that comes back.

I'ma take a hard pass on any Chabot/Drouin deal, but the Phaneuf trade definitely means that Wiercioch is avail if they're looking for blueliners... :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

I'll probably cool down and be more open to this deal in a few hours, right now I'm just pissed and not ready to love again, I had accepted the tank and now they're trying to do a thing that helps them this year and it conflicts with my feels. I only found out about this trade like 30 minutes ago so I'm still in the denial stage.

12th overall pick in 1997 + 47th overall pick in 2013 + 9th overall pick in 2009 for Dion Phaneuf. If you REALLY want to trace the trades back to their roots.

(Never mind the fact that we got a solid year out of Bishop and seven out of Hossa. Or that the assets in the Hossa trade paid dividends, too. But you know, do you.)

Chill it's just a joke.
I think it's cool to track assets and see their roots.

Mark Stone came from alex auld a free agent.

Turris is our 17th overall pick moved up with a second rounder etc

Murray said in the interview he still wants a LW top 6er. He said Dion will play with Ceci to start and will be used on the PP. Frattin might be in the NHL. They are going to evaluate all the AHL players

He also spoke glowingly of Smith

Can someone confirm what we owe him in real money per year? I'm confused about whether the bonus is included in his salary or in addition to it.

I like Chabot a lot. But Methot and Phaneuf are signed long term. Would make it more palatable. Chabot for Drouin.

Hoffman Turris Ryan
Drouin Zibanejad Stone
MacArthur Pageau Lazar
Prince Smith

Then the choice of a bunch of guys for 12/13/14 spot.

Really strong forward group with the improved defence. And it is cheap with Drouin on ELC and a cheaper RFA since he won't have emerged yet.

Leafs fan here. You will like Phaneuf, he's a good locker-room presence and a well liked leader contrary to the opinions on HF. If his job is to play #2 / #3 minutes he will be fantastic. I'm pretty stoked because I've wanted DP to go somewhere for a long time where he wasn't on my trainwreck Leafs team and prove the haters wrong that he is still a good defenseman.

Best of luck.

No #1 C will hurt in the long run though...
