Can you give us the low-down on the other names?

Any Leaf fan for that matter?

Losing Lindberg hurts. He was the guy I had big hopes for even though his AHL start has been a bit rough.

Leafs fan here. Phaneuf is a lot better than most non-Leafs fans lead you to believe. He'll help you win games (but will most likely become an anchor is 2 years).

Frattin is a career AHLer, spare one year where Kadri carried him.

Rupert is decent, but likely too small to ever amount to anything.

Bailey, if all goes right could be a 4th liner. Donaghey is an AHLer.

The trade breaks down to Phaneuf for Lindberg + 2nd. Good deal for both teams. You get a top 4 Dman. We get cap space and improve our tank.

When is our next game against the Leafs?

Betting Phaneuf gets a hat-trick against them. :naughty:

Tanking wouldn't fix anything, and you must hate being a fan.
I've been a fan of this team long enough to know we've always been a symphony of failure in the end.

Also the year after tanking for Zibby we made the playoffs and *gasp* played great and nearly toppled the number one seed in the East. Very next year injuries kill us but we still made the playoffs. So don't think tanking hasn't helped looking at all the **** we did in what was it, 2011-12? to improve for the future

Bishop + Hossa + 9th Overall for Phaneuf

Dude, you haven't traced it back far enough...

The Sens traded for Bishop because St. Louis had no room for him since Elliott and Halak were their future.

The Sens finally drafted outside of the top 3 because of Alfredsson and Yashin. This allowed them to draft Hossa at 12th overall, otherwise Thornton would've been a Senator.

I refuse to joke about the 9th overall because players no longer count as draft picks the minute they are drafted. Shame on you.

So basically the trade was:

Habs selling high on Halak + Sens taking 5 years to become an NHL team + nope for Phaneuf.

Fair trade.

You seem to be forgetting 90% of the Sens history

Conformation Bias at it's finest
What, back in the early 2000's when every year it was supposed to be our year but then it wasn't? When we stumbled into the finals in 2007 and got rekt? When we lost Heatley, then ****ed up with Alfie, then over paid for old as balls Chris Phillips to reach the cap FLOOR, then ran Spezza out of town, then the guy we got to pair with him left to follow Spezza to the same team, then ran a Jack Adams award winning coach out of town because shockingly he had trouble making a ****tily put together team good?

You could cheer for the Leafs. Then you could be even MORE upset.

In just one ****** scenario I could posit, if you tank now and pick somewhere in the top 10, you have 2-3 years before that high draft pick even hits the roster with any real impact, and by then you will have wasted a large chunk of Karlsson's prime and maybe even driven him outta town.

No thanks.
No thanks.

You sound like a blast at parties, why don't you cheer for the Kings or Hawks if you don't accept losing?

This trade does way more than provide Ottawa with a top 4 dman. It makes it so Chabot won't be rushed.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Phaneuf is a lefty that plays better on the right side. So if Boro and Phaneuf could become one of the most feared shut down tandem in the league.

If he is playing second pair, it puts everybody in their right spot. Including himself.

Lol teams tank to get a franchise player/impact player. Why tank when we've already lucked into a 2 time Norris winner and one of the best defenseman/game breaker of this generation?

To all the Sens fans...

Don't buy all the HF anti-Phaneuf bull. He's a very effective top 4 D that does almost everything well. He is absolutely hell to play against, not just because he's the biggest open ice hitter in the game, but because he's nasty as hell with his stick and board work. If you want to go to the net, or engage in a board battle, you are going to pay.

Doesn't use his shot nearly as much anymore though. Rarely see him rip a one timer from his famous spot, but he's quite effective in the O-zone; well rounded offensive player but nothing flashy. Great penalty killer, minute muncher, professional player on/off the ice.
