Someone in the main board mentioned that Blackwood could be the best goalie Avs have had since Varly. If he really turns into a legit starter for us for years to come, we really didn’t give up that much. It would be if let’s say Kovy was a top 6 forward but he’s not
If Blackwood plays so well that we are convinced of him being the solution for years to come, it has obviously resulted in a deep playoff run.

How much do you think his contract is going to cost at that point?

You used to hate Blackwood quite a bit
Yep, I did (more ire directed at the Devils for being so stodgy with their goaltending, but meh, technicalties), so I hope to hell my initial view of him was wrong, or that he has developed since then. He's always been capable of very good stretches of goaltending--pretty sure he singlehandedly kept the Sharks in a game against the Avs just last year all by himself before finally giving up a few--but he's also capable of shitting the crease.

Whatever the case, all we can do now is hope this team can turn the page and Black-/Wedge-wood can be a capable tandem.

If Blackwood plays well, I doubt the Avs just hand him a huge contract. He is already 28, so I'm not sure what kind of contract he'll be looking for. Could get ugly.

He’s a UFA at season’s end and is already making $2.35m.

If he is good for us, we won’t be able to afford re-signing him.

If all goes well and he becomes a solid starter for us, I’d say probably double his current salary? Somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 or 5 maybe

Which already could be too much for us, that's how tight we are.

I can see a scenario where Blackwood reaches an Adin Hill like level up. Truth is he hasn't been on a good team until the year he lost the net due to injuries in his last year with New Jersey. His first two years I remember his name being lumped in the top young goalies in the league.

Lot of untapped potential. If he gets the Avs bump where every new goalie gets a jump up in save percentage we might have something here. Still not the biggest fan of the assets given up and how Cmac has handled the goalie situation. But I can see why he was a target. Also 6'"4!
