Ivan made Kovy expendable. Also I bet a Kiviranta extension is coming.
Salary, yes, but I think the actual cap hit is lower.

This is where we could really use some clarity on the Landeskog situation. We haven’t seen him in weeks so we don’t know if he had a big setback or he’s just working on his own away from any media. It would just be nice to find out if we can use his cap hit or not

Wedgie is a Brampton kid, grew up in a very different environment to Mack2. Blackwood is from Thunder Bay which might as well be Winnipeg.
Good old Canadian boys indeed. Can at least trust them to be good teammates and support each other.

It's a fair point, but the guys is already on the older end for prospects. Like @RoyIsALegend said im just glad it's not Ivan going the other way.
I'm not as sold on Kovalenko as everyone else. But some of you probably have a better ability to see the potential than myself.
The locker room has to feel like a breath of fresh air with Georgiev out. No more walking on egg shells to protect Georgiev's ego.

The more I think about it the more I like this trade. We have a solid goaltending tandem now, and don’t have to stress about watching Georgiev anymore

Would have liked to keep Kovy but we kept our 1st rounder instead and honestly Ivan and Kiviranta have both outperformed Kovy this year. Kivi is far far better defensively and has increased his offensive output a bit this year too.
Wonder if its worth it for CMac to try and re up Blackwood before he even starts playing for us to get him at a lower rate? It's risky but if he plays well and we go deep he might ask for a lot.
Give him the new Georgie deal

I’m nowhere near a goalie expert, but I kinda like that Blackwood excels against high quality shots. Most people say the Avs “just need average goaltending” because they’re so good but in reality a lot of the Avs in recent years have given up a lot of high quality chances and are in the bottom 10 this year.
Yes the Avs would love to finally have a simple goalie who can make “the simple save” and Blackwood definitely resembles something like that. But he’s also capable of stealing games and making those big saves he has no business making as well and sometimes with the defensive breakdowns of this team, they need that.

I don't actually remember when was a last time an NHL team would trade 1st goalie and backup and replace them both within 1 month. Crazy.

A lot of people were down on Kivi when I was pining for him for a depth forward before last season, and I couldn’t figure out why. Now I’m thinking they hadn’t seen him play - people seem to like him
now. He’s a nice cog, especially now that we don’t have Cogs.
I am happy we get a total reset for the goalie position and that at least of them is a great room guy, and Wedgie knows how to be a professional backup. I would imagine this will really get the boys fired up.

Avs fans! I cannot find an actual decent explanation of the kind of player Kovalenko is and I'm very curious. From what I gather he's a fast, sorta-skilled guy who is just getting his chance to play this year and is still adapting to NHL ice? What do you think his ceiling his? How has he looked for you so far? I feel like half the posts are like OH NO HE'S ONE OF OUR BEST PROSPECTS and the other are WHO CARES HE'S BARELY A BOTTOM 6 FORWARD so I don't know what's real.
Thanks! As I said on the main board, Blackwood has actually been fantastic this year and has had some incredible saves. He does his best when he sees a lot of rubber but he's been very good and it's a smart bet to take, I think. Also, Givanni Smith is actually a good 4th liner in my opinion, we just have a lot of them. He's fast and sometimes surprises you with his hands.

In a couple weeks we went from Georgiev and Annunen to Blackwood/Wedgewood.
I'm happy. Not saying it's he best tandem in the league by any means, but way more confident in them then the 1st duo.

Kovalenko has solid 3rd line upside. Decent 2 way player.

There’s certainly a chance that Kovy will improve, he’s shown a lot of flashes of cleverness, but he wasn’t going to help a lot this year. I would have liked to watch him develop, but I’d much rather be filled with Wood.
