Blackwood Traded to Colorado

Well...shit, I really liked Kovalenko and hoped he'd stick around, but I realize the guy had limited utility and I suppose he was destined to follow in his father's footsteps and be traded for a goalie.

It's a pretty substantial payment but the Avs had painted themselves in a corner, they had a goalie no one wanted and everyone knew they were desperate to get one.

Giev and the picks for Blackwood should've been the deal.

It's Kovy's 1st season, way too early to give up on him. Especially with how bad we are at drafting, and how much they are going to pay Rants next year.

You used to hate Blackwood quite a bit

I dont think kovalenko will ever be more than a replacement level 3/4th liner

the cubbard will continue to be bare

but we got rid of georgiev and made an upgrade. if the woods can play like kuemper/francouz level i think we can at least call this a 2nd round exit type team

Having to retain on Fourgiev and losing Kovalenko stings a lot. Of Blackwood comes in here and is a true #1, it works but we shall see. Definitely upgraded goaltending though.

C'mon now... if we read back half the posts about George the past 2 MONTHS, people are saying stuff like "I don't care what it costs, you have to address it" and then when he does, people flip out.

The reactions over here are just over the top. People went nuts when we traded Annunen for what was 'supposed to be' a lateral move at best and waddaya know, Wedgewood has been good so far.

Now we make a trade for a goalie that's been able to post .899 s% in 44 starts last year and .910 sv% in 17 starts this year on that TIRE FIRE team in San Jose and people are still flipping out ?

There are a lot of examples of goaltenders who weren't fantastic earlier on in their careers only to get to 26-27 years old and seem to figure it out.

I'm just THRILLED TO SHIT that Georgiev is gone.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Blackwood. I would have preferred to have someone like Gibson who would be here past next year, but it is what is it.

At least our management was pro-active (finally) this season, I suppose? They messed up this offseason not fixing this mess but they sure got rid of Georgiev and Annunen in a hurry this year.

I'm obviously the #1 Fourgiev hater here. I don't mind getting rid of him but not sure if Blackwood is the answer. We basically paid Fourgiev, Kovalenko, and a 2nd pick for Blackwood.

Someone in the main board mentioned that Blackwood could be the best goalie Avs have had since Varly. If he really turns into a legit starter for us for years to come, we really didn’t give up that much. It would be if let’s say Kovy was a top 6 forward but he’s not
