Pretty damning for them to trade Georgiev the day after he gets a shut out. The guy might top out as my most hate Avs goalie of all time. The fact we had to lose Kovy for him makes it worse. Worst Avs goalie ever.
He didn't play yesterday.

I would have preferred Gibson but oh well. This just shows Georgiev's real value. Losing Kovy sucks, but if I'm honest I would have been more pissed if they traded away Ivan.

I’m ok with this trade. Kovy is most likely gonna be a career bottom 6 forward. Blackwood has put up a 910 save percentage on a bad Sharks team and he’s young and will be our starter for years to come. On a surface it may look like we gave up too much but if we’re getting a legit young starting goalie, it’s not

Just because he might have been overrated, doesn't mean he was worthless. More importantly, he could have been used as a trade chip for a better goaler.
If Gibson was available at 50%, that would've intrigued me. But I wonder if that was ever the case, and outside of that the market is pretty bleak TBH.

Gibson would have cost a lot more, and MacFarland probably wanted to pay as little as possible...which is why we went after Blackwood and not him or Vejmelka.

I liked Kovy but he wasn’t great either. Probably a 3rd line winger at most. We have some good cheap bottom 6 help right now anyway with Ivan, Kivi, Prish.

On that note, is this Smith guy our new MacDermid?

Exactly I don't care about the picks. But that's cheap forward depth with potential that has another year on his contract. Players that this team needs more. It's also worse that we had to wait so long for Kovy to arrive after all the Avs hype. Sad we won't get to see him grow here.

Again Cmac had a disastrous offseason. The movement should've been long ago when all the warning signs showed up after Georgiev's awful 2nd half to the year.

Idk why people are upset at this. We found ourselves a CLEAR upgrade on Georgiev and all it cost was a 2nd and Kovalenko.

I like Kovalenko admittedly BUT he wasn't producing much and Bednar didn't seem to like using him. He chose Kiviranta for a 3rd line role alongside Kelly and LOC recently instead of Kovalenko. I like how Kivi has looked all year BUT that's not a high bar to have to outperform and Kovalenko couldn't do it.

Very, very happy today. Would have preferred Gibson but Blackwood also has upside and isn't as injury prone.

Depends on what version of Blackwood they're getting. His current play is a big upgrade but I don't really trust him to keep it going. If he can even be average then that'll be a nice change. Georgiev had to go.

Kovalenko is a nice depth piece but also a dime in a dozen type of player. Meh.
