Also, one thing is certain. CMac is still pushing. The Avs may not get back to contending, but it won’t be from a lack of effort by the front office. They are pushing and trying to get the right mix (while having limited assets and cap), and really that’s the best than can be asked of them.

If the Avs had any sort of health this season I don't know if we'd be seeing the trade shake out the way it did.

The fact that Kiviranta was given extended minutes, Ivan made the team and has produced at the same rate as Kovalenko while looking better defensively, and even a guy like Prischepov has gotten 10 games in for the Avs to evaluate how he factors into the future makes me believe CMac/Bednar weren't concerned throwing Kovalenko into the deal.

I hope Kovalenko becomes great because he seems like a good guy, but I think Bednar very quickly soured on this player and we know what happens when Bednar sours on a guy. He's never seeing the light of day from that doghouse.

I'm not even sure this is a Bednar doghouse thing.

The goaltending was simply abysmal in many games this season. Almost beyond comprehension at a NHL level. 3 of the first 4 shots going in, etc.

I suspect they simply understood it had to be addressed, and they weren't going to "protect" 4th line guys.

All indications are that they are good locker room guys (and have played better than what was here already). Not sure how it's lying or bad to think that

De Haan - Malinski

Blackwood
Wedgewood

Avs still need IMO 2 bottom-six forwards and a defenseman to either replace De Haan as a lefty or Malinski as a righty and preferably one that kills penalties and is physical.

Still work to be done. LOC and Kiviranta gotta play 4th line, not 3rd line.

Not a CMac fan what so ever but I recognize it's not easy to move on from 2 goalies who everyone knows are bad In the same season!

But he has accomplished that.

Of course, he should have never got himself into such poor position in the 1st place (which is why I think he is a poor GM....), but he has managed to recover. At a time where he has the boat anchor of a maxed out cap tied around his neck.

Exactly this, he had 2 shit goalies nobody wanted. And he turned it into a ok backup and a guy who can start at a plausible NHL level. To flip that trash for something somewhat salvageable is ok.

But overall it's a shit ass job because he's the one who brought in the two shit ass goalies to begin with.
