Glad the initial overaction on here is over...this was the price of dumping 5Giev...I liked Kovy, but Ivan and Prishy made him redundant and a commodity we could use. I am optimistic that this works out well Based on Wedgewood.....he has looked REALLY solid here....and Blackwood is genuinely more talented.

The happiest guy in the room is Sam Malinski, who no longer fears a career ending knee injury from getting whacked by his own starting goalie.
That notwithstanding, just my personal belief but I think Josh Manson is the happiest guy in the room.

Very nice!
I'll admit that I don't know much about him but him and Gibson are the two names that kept popping-up here and in relation to all teams needing goaltending upgrade in the league.

4giev had negative value and BW had positive value, so I don't understand why people think the payment is excessive... More or less a 2nd and Kovalenko. Kovy's contract ends this year and he is arbitration eligible, so I'm not even sure how this would have played out at the end of the year given our cap situation. We already gave $2.5M to Wood and LOC, so the rest has to be filled-out with league minimum salary, not a dollar more.

For all the complaining about not cutting ties soon enough with guys like Jost and Newhook and selling low, I'm actually getting vibes of selling high with Kovalenko. I wish him the best however.

Goaltending absolutely had to be improved and options were very limited. We got one of them, for a likely improvement, at an acceptable cost.

People unanimously wanted a change of goalie. We got two. Well played Cmac!

I hated seeing Kovalenko's name in the trade but you are 100% correct here. As much as it sucks to lose him, the fact that Ivan and Prischepov have both taken steps forwards makes this a lot easier to digest.

Malinski
Rantanen
Toews
de Haan

These 4 guys at the very least all had instances of frustration with Georgiev.
Come on!

Wouldn't it be easier to list the players who didn't have frustration with the guy?

Like here it is....

Maybe I’m crazy, I am but I hope jedlicka can get a call up to play fourth line minutes. Hate hate to see Koby go but the happiness swing georgiev gone, can’t wipe the smile off my dace

I'm happy with this.

I'm not 100% sold on Blackwood, but the potential is there and at least moves have been made to fix a glaring hole. Plus every other rumored goalie available comes with risk as well.

 You saw The Man from Another Place in person?! You have been blessed.
Oh but the awesome part of that night was balanced out by meeting Tori Spelling. And I saw the man from another place at a Lynch movie, either Lost Highway or Mulholland Drive, can’t remember which. LA, man.

Just ignore me.

People seem to forget that Mike Grier doesn't have a reputation of being a very savvy and cunning GM.

Even lower than CMac....... lol..

CMac found a partner to dance with who likely thinks that last seasons goalie top game winner stat meant that he's a good goalie.

And..... probably took in all the KHL reviews about what an offensive juggernaught Kovalenko was going to be. Honestly, I never saw it. Just more Alexander Daigle hype. He's never going to be the sniper like so many here heralded.

Bednar recognized it pretty quickly.

Funny enough... I did that once back in the day and the website allowed me to do it. Freaked me out.

Sharks fan here. I like Blackwood. D left him out to dry far too often. He tends to play better when he sees more rubber. Not ideal numbers when he's only facing 18-25 shots. Don't underestimate his ability to steal games.

What is stealing games? Some kind of illegal sorcery? We don't do black magic here.

This is a sensible move but unfortunately it came at a cost of assets we already had limited of. CMAC has been a solid GM but hes never been one with foresight.

Ok so this past summer Avs management needed to know that :

Annunen and his .928 sv% in 14 games played from last season - was completely inadequate to be the backup this up coming year AND that Kevin Lankinen and his .908 sv% in 24 games played from last year with Nashville was an aberration and in fact, he could easily take over starting duties and do well as his 1 year - $875K UFA contract with the Canucks can attest.

Sounds pretty easy after the fact but I don't remember too many Avs fans during free agency pounding the table to get rid of our back-up and pickup Kevin Lankinen.

The last time we acquired a Shark and just straight-up signed him before he played a single game, that worked out great ! :sarcasm:
The best GMs have foresight and gut feel that goes beyond stats. CMAC makes sensible moves given his situation. But he's not a killer GM. Hes better as the assistant to Joe tbh.

It isn't excessive. In fact someone asked the other what the price could be for Blackwood and I think Grier could have been much greedier and demand a 1st round pick (or more) as he wasn't really in a hurry to move him.

The bottom line is - if Blackwood can handle the workload and give us .900 to .910 sv%, it won't be 'oh my god, amazing' but an upgrade on what we had for sure.

When you consider this :

Blackwood last season - on a last place team

vs

Georgiev last season - on a playoff team

This is a wild take.

Canadian beer is widely considered stronger and better than American piss beer.

I think Molson is not far ahead of stuff like bud. I'll still choose it over Bud or Miler though in a pinch.

Thankfully craft beer is a thing, and it's getting easier to find in NHL arenas.

That is coming from someone who keeps a porter stocked at all times though.

Heineken is the beer I choose if I want something I can drink like water.

So Blackwood is a UFA at years end?

If he plays well and doesn’t want to re-sign can we deal him again or does the CBA have restrictions?
