Blackwood Traded to Colorado

I think Molson is not far ahead of stuff like bud. I'll still choose it over Bud or Miler though in a pinch.

Thankfully craft beer is a thing, and it's getting easier to find in NHL arenas.

That is coming from someone who keeps a porter stocked at all times though.

Heineken is the beer I choose if I want something I can drink like water.
Seriously, if I was just to have one beer with dinner, it would be either a Guneiss Stout or a Stella Artois. Stella is better if I am eating, but for just having a beer while drinking...I mean watching a game, I'll take a Guiness Draft.

I wish it was Wood instead of Kovalenko but I’m glad to see George gone. Something had to change. Let’s see if we can turn things around now and start stacking some wins!

Just popping in to say that it's cool that our fan bases have basically zero hatred for one another despite a pretty decent history of playoff battles. I'll be rooting for Blackwood and the Avs in the playoffs for sure.

You can't truly hate the other team just because your team sucks, well unless you're an Oilers fan.

We're well aware of how long and grueling a rebuild can be.

I appreciate that. Please forgive us if we hope that the Avs run George over the next time we face the Sharks. By then, I thinking you will be cheering along with us.

Copying over my comments from earlier this morning in the other thread:

We have a lot of trade proposals for Blackwood, which I understand is largely a function of him being a goaltender who is available.

I don't fully understand why though. During the year that the Devils broke out and made the playoffs (2022-2023), they preferred starting Vitek Vanacek over him in the net. And then when Vanacek faltered, they didn't go to Blackwood, but a recent callup Akira Schmid. This was because Blackwood was really bad in New Jersey, so much so that he didn't get a single minute of playoff hockey despite entering the year as their 1A or 1B and after the playoff loss they shot him to the sun and only got a sixth round pick from him.

Is the thinking that Blackwood might have found his pro game during the last year and a half in San Jose? I recall him having one super game against us, but I would be hesitant to declare him "the answer."

Devils fan here. Injuries had screwed up blackwood rhythm that year, and Vitek was insanely good to start the season. Both goalies fell off by the playoffs and that is why Schmid came about after Vitek sunk the first 2 games of playoffs. I still feel Ruffs system kinda screwed up both goalies to some degree to make them look worse than they actually are.

There were stretches the previous years before that where blackwood was really amazing. He shows that still from some games since he went to sharks. Consistency was always the problem but when he was on, he can be unbeatable (when he stays healthy).

Don't get me fully wrong, he is a huge question mark/wildcard. Maybe on a "winning team" he can put it all together, consistently. He could be a slight upgrade or a massive one.

I would have vastly preferred Veji or Gibson but it is what it is, an upgrade at least. At one point he was the goalie of the future in New Jersey so let's see how it goes.

If he walks, and Gibson isn't garbage they may still knock on that door. Maybe after the Ducks realize they'll need to retain too.

I don't think we should overanalyze the past. In hockey years, 2022-2023 was an eternity ago. Colorado only has 9 skaters (5F/4D/0G) left from that season, for example.

Blackwood's career has had ups and downs (as you noted), but right now it's up. Way up. In calendar year 2024, Blackwood has a 2.98 GAA and .910 SV% across 40 games.

That .910 SV% is tied with Jusse Saros for 11th best in the league during that stretch (min: 30 GP). Gibson, the other rumored name, is 40th with an .882 SV% and 3.77 GAA. The way I see it is the Avs are rolling the dice on the player who's good now rather than chasing past production.

did Makar go the other way? no? so its a win in my books. dont care what else we gave or received. just not having to endure Georgiev and his shenanigans anymore already made my week a lot better!

wait. actually I care about the other parts. I checked this Smith guy up and he looks like one of the dudes from the mythical Jamaican bobsled team. and he is also an enforcer type. I already love this man. I hope he stays with the big team all year. and I hope he also has some... tricks lol with his stick on the bench.
