Teams met with Hayes on Saturday and there wasn't TSN waiting outside of the office with their camera.

Schultz and Newport turned that into a circus. Even the way Schultz informed teams was unusual. He would call a team to inform them he wasn't signing with them and someone would leak it to the media to appear on twitter. Two teams left. Schultz called Ottawa and the remaining team was Edmonton so everyone knew it was Edmonton.

Hayes and Murray probably did shorten the list yesterday. They just didn't inform the media of every move in the process.

Nobody knows which teams met with Hayes. How many of them?

Saw this on the main board...

Those sources also tell me the 5 teams in mix for Kevin Hayes that talk to him today are: Colorado, Nashville, #Bruins, Pittsburgh, & NYR.

Colorado and Nashville have internal budgets that they follow. I've got to think his agent is aware of this and that it could be a problem down the road for him.

Typical Pittsburgh. Offer a chance to play alongside Crosby and Malkin and **oh yeah, our **** defense and goalie**

Bruins have a spot open with Thornton leaving, but I think the Rangers offer more flexibility in their lineup. Especially in the bottom six.

I dont see him going to Colorado and Nashville for the reasons you just mentioned.

Pittsburgh is a strong maybe because they have no problem putting whoever with Crosby and Malkin.

But I still see Boston and NYR as the two favorites. Boston is the hometown appeal. NYR is not far at all from his hometown and Kreider is here as well. You look at the rangers roster and it just screams opportunity for young players. Kreider, Stepan, Zucc, McDonagh, Girardi, Staal, Henrik, hagelin, and even John Moore. Also have to consider that Nash, MSL, and Brassard came via the result of us trading players like dubinsky, anisimov, and callahan who got a great opportunity here to be NHL regulars and develop their careers.

I know he can only make a certain amount but Boston is over the cap and still have to sign both Krug and Smith and after savard is put on LTIR they will have just over 3M IIRC

Really surprised Florida isn't in the list. Boston must be his dream though the are similar to Chicago and don't have the cap space. Calgary's not on the list and I'm surprised on that one too. Maybe I'm being overly hopeful, though it seems NYR is the only team who has the space for him, a winning team, and a connection.

What happened to the Flames and Florida being the favorites? Hayes spent a day last week in Jersey with Johnny G so he was a lock to sign with Calgary. Brian Burke was in New England this weekend. He took the ALS bucket challenge in Providence on Friday. Burke probably pitched the Flames to Hayes. I read the Flyers also made a pitch. Hextall represented the Flyers. Elliott Friedman wrote on July the Panthers were not going in the Hayes direction. Hayes is related the Fitzgerald's who are in front office positions for Pittsburgh and Boston.

If Bruins somehow get Hayes, you gotta think someone is getting traded there. I don't see Hayes taking 2 way deal considering he has five teams he is deciding between. The Bruins have barely over three million in cap space left and have to sign Krug and Smith. Bartkowski got 1.25 mil, granted he had arbitration rights but Krug and Smith had vastly superior offensive seasons. They are easily looking at 1.75-2mill each at a starting point, which Boston can't afford even before Hayes enters the equation. So if Boston does end up landing Hayes, I see them moving one or more of the following: Krug, Smith, Seidenberg, Boychuk or Kelly.
So when all is said and done, Boston will have lost Iginla, Thornton (by choice) and possibly more significant pieces from last season.

He's required to adhere to the rules of entry-level contracts, so he's getting a two-way deal regardless of where he signs. However, you're right that Boston is in a cap crunch and likely doesn't have room for him on their NHL roster.

If it's about a chance at playing time and its between these teams, Nashville and the Rangers make the most sense... Boston, Col and Pittsburgh have alot more depth which will make it harder for him to make their roster.

I think it would be easier to make the Bruins or Penguins as a winger than the Rangers.

Hayes met with those teams 2 days ago. How much more is there to discuss? He whittled the teams to five and wants to talk with them again?

Playing with Crosby or Malkin will inflate his numbers. He could be looking at bigger raises because of this. Of course, there is no guarantee he stays on a line with either, but still, Pittsburgh are a legitimate option.

Not on the wings they don't. Hayes is a RW which means he's already behind Nash, Zuccarello and MSL. Pittsburgh has lousy winger depth and the Avs aren't swimming in them either.
