Played a very fast young team and we looked just as fast if not faster.
Lafreniere damn. Could have had 3-4 points tonight. How does he not get an assist on the Panarin goal|? Lol.
Cuylle is exactly the type of player this team needs. Seems so much more mature than his age. Good job in Hartford. It helped.

Oh and love letting Miller play aggressive. 90 percent of the time he gets back in time when he's up ice. the other 10 percent they will just have to find a way to cover for him.

I think it was 1-2-2 the first 2 periods, really sucked them in the neutral zone, and then a more aggressive forecheck in the 3rd. Lavi's got multiple systems. I noticed the PK was more of a diamond, and one of the D was where a forward PKer would be. Kakko wheeling around more than once so his linemates can get organized instead of rushing in blindly. Wheeler covering the LD whenever Miller pinched deep. HUGE STRUCTURE TONIGHT

Excellent 60 min. Great looking start in pretty much all zones and situations.

Was surprised how structured this team looked for game 1. Must have been a real productive week of practice. You could see the detail in Lavs system on display.

Two really important things:

1. This was the most ready to play and conditioned looking opener I’ve seen in a while from this club.

2. There will be ebbs and flows in execution but in the short term they can always fall back on this game and call back the effort and sacrifice we saw out there tonight.

Good stuff

Panarin was an absolute monster. Also thought Miller had a really nice game and was all over (in a good way). Kakko could have had a point a number of times as well, he was decisive and made things happen I thought. Looks very confident out there. Laf of course was great and making quick decisions which helps him a lot.

In the post game interview, Lavi said the team started picking up the system better and with more pace in the 2 practices after the last preseason game.

hard to ask for much more in game 1. buf on paper looked like it could have been a tough matchup with their speed and youth compounded by the adrenaline of a home opener.

the rangers looked extremely organized with their structure, i honestly don't remember the last time they played a game where they gave up so few real scoring opportunities. even the goal against was about as unlucky a break as you can get with that bounce off a great blocked shot. against a team with the speed and firepower of buf that's pretty impressive. just fantastic structure through the neutral zone and organized puck movement in the d zone....almost like seeing a ghost watching the rangers execute in those areas.

great to see laf get on the board early and he played a great game, and panarin/mika showing up as play drivers after an invisible preseason was reassuring. honestly can't say a bad word about anyone on the roster, just a very complete effort from the entire team. obviously 1 game doesn't mean much as good or as bad as it ended up, but certainly provides some optimism seeing the performance being this positive in the first game with a new system under a new staff.

Lafreniere made a terrific play in the neutral zone breaking up the play and the Rangers created an offensive opportunity in the second period. He made the plays along the wall. Lafreniere should have shot the puck on the 2 on 1 with Chytil. Lafreniere went 4 and 1 on faceoffs. We know that Chytil had a shoulder or hand injury because he wasn’t taking face-offs. That line was very good. xGF% 91.32

1. Love that the naysayers are absolutely silent tonight.
2. It is amazing what happens when you have a system in place. It doesn't mean there won't be hiccups, but wow that was impressive.
3. It is only one game but that was one of the most complete games we have seen from Laf. Was it on a 1st overall pick level akin to a Crosby/Stamkos/McDavid, no and we need to be ok with that. Does it mean he can still improve to be a solid 30/30 guy for a 1st overall? Absolutely and that would still be a fantastic f***ing win.
4. GREAT f***ING GAME.
