Is it time to give Guerin some cred for the Sturm/Jost trade?

Sturm has done nothing with the Avs...and Jost, while not exactly lighting up the score board, is playing pretty well and showing flashes of skill that Sturm just doesn't have.

The Jost/Sturm trade is more about the $2m cap hit for next year than what the players are doing now. The impact on the games has been negligible for both players so far.

Cap hit aside, would you rather have Sturm or Jost?

Sturm. Better at FOs, has a more physical game, and he's better on the PK. I also think Strum/Duhaime clicked better than Jost/Duhaime have.

Neither of them have great hands and they have about the same speed.

I would probably take Jost. I tend to side with the younger player. There is always a slight chance that the younger player will be better with more time under their belt. By the time Jost is 27 like Sturm maybe his game has developed more.

Good point on the faceoff %, but I would rather have Jost because I think he has a higher offensive ceiling potential than Sturm does. With Sturm, what you see is what you get....straight line speed, some physicality and hands of stone, where Jost has a better offensive skill set and ability to improve as he is three years younger than Sturm is. Jost doesn't have great hands, but he is much better at controlling the puck on his stick than Sturm is.

I disagree about Sturm and Duhaime having any sort of chemistry....on the contrary, I think Duhaime and Jost click together more than Sturm did.

Additionally, I think Jost can fit in better with the top 2 lines in spot duties than Sturm. Not saying that Jost has a future as a top 6 player, but his abilities fit that spot more than Sturm's when called upon.

Doesn't matter if he's good at faceoffs if he's never taking the draw. Sturm was hardly on the faceoff dot prior to the trade at the end.

I'll take Jost all day.

Jost would make more sense if there was an opening in the top 9. If he's just going to be stuck on the 4th line, Sturm would likely be a better fit.

I gave him credit when for it when it happened.

But it doesn't mean anything if Jost is just gonna be stuck on the fourth line for his entire time here.

I think he's a viable candidate to be.

If we're being serious, it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to trade him after Guerin traded for him specifically because of the extra year on his contract.
