The Suter buyout wasn't about his quality of play. Even money wasn't the driving factor. The guy, by all accounts, was an asshole in the locker room and as a teammate. Worth every penny to get rid of that type.

i would have atleast tried a year to beat suter into submission to play nice with the other children before buying him out. we are in cap hell and i find it hard to believe the STH & several wild fans are going to be cheering Guerin's name when reality kicks in. im glad he didn't bet the farm at the trade deadline. i was ok with adding fleury. i maintain it was our D that was the real issue. (GA). trading dumba for cap space makes sense to me. not sure what to do with fiala but i doubt he'll take a discount to sign and stay here. buckle up for a bumpy 3 year ride!

Lol Guerin on KFAN with Barreiro now and just f***ing angry about Dan insinuating a trade of Dumba over Fiala. Fiala is gone gone based off the way he’s talking here. Guerin LOVES Dumba. Sounds like he REALLY hates the media crap around the Fiala and Dumba futures. Told Barreiro to knock it off with the listening to media people thing and to call him directly off air instead of putting out junk. But he did kinda end it with “no one HAS to go and no one HAS to stay”.

Sure. No one HAS to go, as long as Fiala stops being so selfish and accepts his $3M per year contract.
BG made up his mind regarding Fiala a long, long time ago. Nothing will make him change his mind....same can be said about his love affair with Dumba.
This was a very accurate summary. He was really defensive of Dumba and hates the media speculation.
The Fiala/Dumba talk was in the last 10 minutes or so.

He is set on moving Fiala like he is set on never moving Dumba. If there was a way to keep 22, but it involved moving 24....he wouldn't take it, because he seems set in his ways.

When asked what he would say to loyal Wild fans frustrated with yet another first round loss, Guerin says, effectively, "but what about the regular season? Was it not the best regular season the Wild ever had?"
I also love when Dan asks him if what Evason did with Talbot is a reasonable thing to do, Guerin gets extremely defensive, and the pitch of his voice goes way up as he tries to say that, not only was it reasonable, it's Evason's job.
For a guy people love to praise for being a people person and having a great personable personality, he gets kind of hostile and condescending when people start asking him questions he doesn't like.

Yeah, after listening to the entire thing, it's VERY clear that Fiala isn't coming back, and it sounds like Guerin has some personal disdain for Fiala. Like he can't wait to get rid of him, and doesn't plan on speaking to him at all this summer (or ever again).

I really hope this happens now. Maybe that can be Fiala's Player's Tribune piece.
My fear is that Guerin is focused on the next three years not being rebuilding years and he trades Fiala for some pieces now that he can fit under the cap or guys that he considers to be 'his' guys and just pushes off the inevitable.
We're all thinking that Guerin is going to trade Fiala for a 1st round draft pick, but I got this feeling he may go low (2nd round) and some middling guy like Viktor Arvidsson (Evason connection) and then sign Zach Ashton-Reese to a massive contract.
I think it has to do with Guerin didn't like how Fiala negotiated back in 21 and that Fiala didn't take what Guerin offered. More so, I don't think Evason likes Fiala either. And Guerin is pretty loyal to Evason. But I do remember Guerin was pretty POed at Fiala.

Trade Fiala and keep Dumba, or keep Fiala and trade Dumba. Losing either of them hurts the team equally and the W/L record at the end of next year would be within a couple standings points. Fiala will be a bigger cap hit than Dumba. Fiala also gets a better return in trade than Dumba. From the business side of things it's an easy decision to make.
The only real difference in who is traded is the secondary entertainment value for the fans. That secondary entertainment value for the fans doesn't matter for the business side of things. Fiala, Dumba, everyone on the team not named Kaprizov are just sideshows, not the main attraction. The fans will show up, tune in, and buy merchandise because they want to see the main attraction: dedicated fans of the team and/or to see Kaprizov.
Kaprizov is the reason Fiala will be gone. Fiala would be the headliner if Kaprizov wasn't here. Kaprizov is already getting the money that Fiala would have been paid.
I get why GMBG doesn't want to respond to questions about this when I look at it from his perspective. It's like he's the burned out single parent of a toddler (media/fans) asking how does the car start. You can explain to them the inner workings of an internal combustion engine, how the fuel system, ignition system, timing, and electronics systems are all connected when the key is turned. They won't understand any of that. So the answer is "put the key in this spot, turn it, and car goes vroom."

I rarely ever listen to podcasts or pay attention to the beat writers and whatnot… but is it weird to say I kind of like Geurin’s attitude about it all 
?
I mean… he best he careful too because that tough guy “we’re here to win, it’s a big boy world” talk can come back pretty hard and bite you in the butt the moment you start looking for or using excuses.
But he cares about performing your job to the best of your ability and the results speak for themselves.
