I’m highly critical of Guerin but I do like the McBain, Fleury, and Kahkonen/Middleton moves. Deslauriers could probably grow on me pending what he does. Not a fan of Jost at all and don’t think he’s capable of doing anything of changing his career course.

Overall, if this is it for the deadline, it’s fine. He’s tweaked some things and certainly identified a portion of this team’s game to address. Whether that’s the right area is another thing, especially if they aren’t bringing in help up the middle.

I would say the debacle was the CBA changing after signing them. Nothing that Fletcher could have done himself, just a shitty thing to have happened.

Fair enough. I consider it a debacle because Parise was never a "Kaprizov" level player, nor was Suter ever a Lidstrom/Doughty level player (nor was Pominville ever so much as a "Justin Williams") and even though there was franchise progress, it was never going to end with a Cup except in the rosiest and most magical of scenarios. I suppose Fletch can blame the league but remember that the Kovalchuk thing happened before and the notion that the league might crack down on long-term circumvention-friendly deals was obviously a point of discussion. Too bad it's not yet water under the bridge but 2026 will be here someday.

I do at least have hope in Jost. I think it was worth the asset value to find out. Sturm wasn't even getting on the ice much anymore Evason had so little faith in him. If we can get Jost to reclaim any of his previously projected offensive ability to come out, it's a win. Found money so to speak.

All in for Guerin, 4 new guys on the roster.

Lets just hope they don't suck for the rest of the season and miss the playoffs, would be a disaster for the GM.

No, not all in, but definitely put some value in.

All in would've included trading high value prospects and 1st rounders both.

Improved the team without having to go to such an extreme.

Yeah, I'm not really sure where the "all in" stuff is coming from (except for people wanting to be overdramatic), trading one of three 2nd rounders, in which two of them are basically found money for this regime.

Because you don't trade a young (and waiver-eligible) goaltender for an aging goaltender with conditions set if you don't think this team could compete for the Stanley Cup. People love to bring up Los Angeles, St. Louis, and Dallas - but they all had top line centers. Kopitar, Seguin, O'Reilly. Even St. Louis, Dallas and Los Angeles had good secondary centers in Mike Richards. I mean can this team compete against depth with Hartman and Gaudreau as their top 6 centers?

I think that Guerin probably does think that we can compete for a Cup. I'm just going to push back on trading a 2nd rounder as being "all in". It's just a really overdramatic phrase in the current situation.

I think most fans are saying that Minnesota should be going all in if they are getting guys like Fleury back. That if they want to compete, they should also be targeting a top 6 center or at least a Stastny (Wild may have, who knows?)

I don't think the 2nd is the problem; I think it's getting an aging, UFA goaltender and trying to capture lightning in the bottle and that Fleury (and Talbot) can hold up and maybe even steal a game or two.

Disgruntled Bruin sufferer coming in peace. You guys have no idea how lucky you are to have Bill Guerin as your GM. Try having Donnie Sweeney and see what true incompetence looks like. Hoping you guys win it all (figuring the Bruins as one and done), like the make up of the team and I went to some North Stars games when I was younger and always enjoyed the area.

I think it's fair to point out that in two of his three cup years, he was replaced for the finals because of his inconsistent performance. And last year, vs. Montreal was not MAF's most shining moment. All that said, he can also steal a series about as well as anyone. The hope is, that if he hiccups again, Talbot will be good enough to fill those gaps (or perhaps more appropriately, ..... gaffs).

Time will tell but I currently feel like he’s had a good trade deadline. Starting to get excited again, atleast.
I agree. He also skirted the line between getting more competitive and giving away the farm nicely. We will still have our 1st, unless we win two series, which will likely mean that we have beaten CO, giving us a realistic path to a Cup final. Also, if we do have to trade the 1st, it will be a very late one. Deslauriers looks like a steal. We need to re-sign him. We'll see about Middleton, but i can see him being a Goli replacement next year.

I think we also learned what GMBG believes about constructing a team for the playoffs. Expect more, big bruising players in competitive years. Old School playoff hockey apparently.
