The Wild are basically a very expensive and high profile family business. In family owned businesses there is frequently a conflict between what ownership wants to do and the course that non-family management thinks is most prudent. When that happens it often looks like there is no plan or a disorganized muddle because management is forced to split the difference between what the owner wants and what is the best course.

Leopold gives the impression of an owner who wants to go for it every year. It is possible that he thinks the Wild are closer than Guerin does and still wants to compete for the cup while Guerin thinks they need a deeper rebuild. If that was the case it would never go public but it would look a lot like what the Wild are doing.

I've spent most of my life running family businesses for other people. Often when it is hard to make sense of what management is doing it is because of the demands of the people above them.

If the big plan is letting Rossi play then Guerin is unnecessary. Receptionist could make that call.
You asked for someone better than Rask/Bjugstad/Bonino...if he's not...we have big problems.
And considering there is a lot of debate here about whether Rossi should make the team...I'm guessing that no the receptionist could not make that call.

Rossi has been the key since he was drafted. Every move made has been made assuming he's not only on the NHL roster, but he's 1C.

Gorg on KFAN, " Minnesota needs to sign Kaprizov first, then focus on Fiala."

KFAN , "Fiala is going to arbitration early next week."

Gorg, " ....(awkward silence)..."

This guy has a job as a hockey expert?
To be fair to Gorg, I can't imagine why anyone would be asking him about contracts. His job is to tee up stock answers from players before going into an intermission, not think about stuff.

St Louis Blues depending on your view of ROR.

Toews was a 73 point per 82 game player those 3 seasons with 3 top 4 Selke finishes and 2 top 10 Hart seasons. He might not have been the elite 1C that fans/media were making him out to be, but he definitely wasn't a 2C.

O'Reilly was a 77 point Selke and Smythe winner his year. That's also not a 2C.

He's also said finding #1 centers is almost impossible via trade or free agency...which leaves the draft..so yeah... waiting is kinda the choice.
There's a #1 C in Vancouver who should be easy as **** to just give an offer-sheet to, since they have two RFA's who wants to get paid and not enough cap space to pay them.

If Fiala ends up going to arbitration then that is a "D" grade for Guerin, IMO, and a sign that this team is going downhill with the wind. He did a good(not great) job on the JEE contract, but signing Kap and Fiala to good contracts were Job One this off season, followed by getting a top 6C. He has done none of those three so far.
And I still don’t like the urgency to get rid of Koivu and Staal, who could win a few faceoffs, without any replacement.
Followed by buying out Suter…he must really HATE veteran players.
Parise’ buy out was good.
The Kunin trade, bad.
The Spurgeon signing, bad.
If he knew he was going to buy out Suter, why not try to keep Soucy and expose Talbot?
Because he knew he needs cap space for the already agreed on signings of Kaprizov and Fiala. Oh, nothing?
Luckily he snatched this big prospect, Goligoski, for a bargain…

It just keeps on piling up.

Wow, Wallstedt and Kahkonen makes for 16th in goalie prospects?
How GOOD are the other 15 teams? There must be some Roys, Brodeurs, Haseks coming up in spades…
I think that one partially depends on your view of Wallstedt. Remember, the Wild also lost Lindberg, and I'm not positive if Kahkonen is actually being counted as a prospect or not. It's entirely possible that they're viewing our goalie prospects as Wallstedt, Jones and Baribeau. That's basically one guy with starter potential.

Kahkonen not in the equation is the most likely.

Site has Wallstedt 3rd, in this last draft.

ya i scratched my head on that one, my guess is quantity of decent prospects has more weight than 1 great one
Yeah, I guess, too.
That’s like complaining the Devils didn’t develop any NHL goaltender for 20 years and had only this Brodeur guy.
At least I hope Wallstedt works out as a NHL starter.

just because you didnt like the moves doesnt mean they were bad moves. Koivu and staal did jacksquat after the left meaning it was a good move.

The kunin trade was good. kunin is a bottom 6 player. and we got russias current u20 1c out of it.

Lastly soucy HAD to be exposed, otherwise we wouldnt have met expansion draft requirements.

Everyone knew that Koivu was done, but Staal was the biggest gamble. Didn't have a great time in Buffalo, but did better in Montreal. More than that? If Minnesota was smart, they would have traded Staal at the deadline.

At least we got the great Johansson for him.
No way you get more at the deadline.
And with out C group I would have liked to keep Koivu for face-offs, only. And some PK.
