When a guy comes in 1 on 3 after his line got hemmed in for a while and the dmen just politely angle him towards the boards and allow him to hang on to the puck until the last possible second.

Hit him FFS!!!

ESPN and ESPN + hockey broadcasts...

On the flip, TNT broadcasts have been amazing.. will be interesting to see what happens when Tocchet leaves. The crew isn't quite as charismatic as the NBA on TNT guys but still my favorite hockey broadcast in the past decade, it is fresh and the quirkiness is not forced.

1. Games with an excessive amount of fighting, for example the Penguins vs. Islanders 2011... 65 total penalties including 15 fighting majors, 21 game misconducts totaling 346 Penalty minutes. This exemplifies everything that is wrong and barbaric about this game, and also a great example of how fighting doesn't solve dirty hits.

2. Fans who cannot appreciate opposing teams' good players, particularly star players. I get so irritated when I hear fellow Penguins fans say stupid things like "Ovechkin isn't even that good, he just stands there and takes one-timers", in the same way it's irritating to see fans of other teams trying to discredit Crosby just because he plays for their rival.

3. Fans who talk about the players all night long, especially when they have particularly targeted criticism toward one player. At Penguins games it tends to be targeting Malkin, Fleury, and Murray. This is especially annoying when it's obvious they don't really know what they're talking about.

4. Officials skating past broken sticks or dropped gear on the ice and not picking it up. I swear I recall officials picking up broken sticks a lot more frequently in the past than they do now.

5. The obsession with using advanced statistics and thinking that punching out formulas all day is a substitute for actually watching the games or understanding how the human element to the game affects it.

Edit:

6. Players being forced to fight after a hit. Fighting is supposedly this way to police the game and keep dirty plays out of the game, and yet it's used so frequently after a perfectly okay body check.

When they call a diving penalty but still give the original penalty. Which is it NHL? Was it tripping, or was it a dive? Make up your minds! Diving shouldn't be an offsetting penalty anyway, it should give the other team a powerplay.

Also, a lot of the intermission games are bad, especially at junior games.

So if Staff Sargeant <insert name> comes home after a year and change overseas to surprise his family at center ice thats not cool and shouldnt happen?

Many professions make it necessary for people to spend prolonged time away from their families, but I don't see those folks surprise their family members at center ice prior to a hockey game. So I'm sorry, but it is military jingoism, and just doesn't belong in a hockey game, period. (Armies are overrated anyway, you know; in reality, it's a country's sheer size and numbers that is the deterrent that is "keeping it safe".)

- Seemingly inconsistent time they blow down an icing (both when there's a race, and when it's a clear icing)

- Fitting in an on-screen ad during an icing, after fans were sold that no touch icings would speed up the game and there wouldn't be a commercial break.

People who can’t figure out the difference between “resign” and “re-sign” when talking about player contracts.

They have the exact opposite affect on the situation.

On a personal level, it's the guys who take beer league hockey too seriously. It takes the fun out of it. Sure, we're there to compete and win but it's mostly to just get out of the house, be active and have fun with our buddies.

When people base opinions on calls where the player broke the rule...but only by a bit.

"Oh come on, he only hit the goalie a little bit! That's not GI interference!"

"He was only off-sides by 6 inches! That goal should count!"

"He was only a foot behind the red line, that's not icing!"

"He shot it after the whistle blew but it was only like 1 second after, it should count!"

I'm "resigned" to the fact that this will never change. Like their, there and they're it's just always going to be there.

Lou Lamoriello would be turning in his grave at the thought of the Devils' best player wearing #86. It's... it's not even a rookie callup number, it's barely even a training camp PTO number. Wear #10 like a star forward should and be done with it.
Pffftt...#10 only gets you to about the middle of the bus. If you want to sit up front you need a number lower than that.

If you are wondering where my comment comes from, you need to go and see how numbers used to be assigned to the players. Essentially the best players on the team got the lowest numbers and thus the best seats on the bus (furthest from the bathroom). Since it's no longer the 1950's and the NHL use chartered flights, the number convention that are you are hung up on no longer exists. You think Lou would make Wayne, Mario, Crosby, McDavid or Malkin change their numbers? Heck no.

Also, I hate when players use the word "obviously" in interviews. You could really make a drinking game out of that.
Uhmm... Huh.... Hmmm.....well.... Yea.... But... Obviously are all words you will hear in an interview of a hockey player maybe less now since they tried to limit head contact

Lmao facts. Hockey players have absolutely zero personality in front of cameras. Hopefully the next gen of players will be more expressive

When a blatant and obvious penalty happens right infront of a ref who can clearly see it but refuses to call it.
You sad, uninformed poster, when this happens it’s because it wasn’t their turn for a pp! These critical decisions are made well before the game, in the production meetings, where they figure out the game management strategy for that nights match up.

Also, the pointless semantics over whether it's a "loser point" or a "regulation tie point."

We should be able to discuss whether or not teams should be getting these points without a separate discussion on what you think it should be referred to as.
