Could happen if they both win their divisions, are healthy and have their goaltenders playing to their best. Much tougher road for the Leafs if they have to go through Florida and Boston.

If there is anything predictable about this team, it is that they are unpredictable. Let's see if they play down to Columbus and Pittsburgh.
I still say it ends up Tor/Pit in the first round.

The beauty of winning the division is that whichever wild card team the Leafs play, it won't be a strong team. The Eastern wild card teams are going to be downright mediocre this season.
That won’t really matter if they are focused and pay attention to detail. The Leafs have proven to be one dimensional so in that regard they are easy to game plan against.

Kyle's team might have too many teams ahead of them to get a WC.
They have played a lot better than their record. If they ever start scoring on the PP the 4 pts won't be hard to make up.

Seems destined for Leaf Nation to have to endure that series

T.O.
He had a rough period where he trailed off but he's back for sure. Same for Matthews really. Both are heating up at a pretty good time.

We need that kind of performance in 3-4 months though. Hopefully they keep it up.
And they're doing it on separate lines for the most part.

The Islanders are their fan base are a bunch of morons. Right up their with Oilers and Sens fans. It is probably why no one gives a f*** about the Islanders and what they do.

The Rangers and their fans are cool. Lot of respect for that organization.

Hope that helps.
It only helps by pointing out reading comprehension issues, as well as a lack of civility

Would you care to try again? The on-ice product.

This is true but they also have easily the oldest avg age of any team.

They definitely have the overall talent level to make the playoffs but the grind of a 82 game regular season could really effect them near the end.

In terms of play, the Islanders play hard and work for their chances. Don't give up on the forecheck. Defence is a little more leaky than I remember. Rangers seem to play more of a free flowing style.

Fan wise.... I hate to get into a pissing match. But I've never seen an angrier bunch. Bruins are up there for that too. They really seem to have a "You gave my dog side eye, now I'm going to sucker punch you and dance over you while you're down" mentality. Just really angry.

Even their Athletic writer wrote a piece about the Tavares booing and shit on the Toronto market while also throwing in an Ohtani shot at the end.

You wouldn't really see that in a Toronto piece, as they'd either be praising something that isn't there or for the most part, heavily criticizing their own market. Aka good or bad, it's about us, not some "ha ha ha losers" piece about another market we frankly don't care about.

It won't be easy.

I believe Crosby doesn't want to miss the playoffs for the last couple of years oh his career and Pit will do whatever they can to help him make it.

Then it will be a painful, long, rebuild

Pitts is toast. They brought in Dubas to save them, he can't.
I doubt they can win another cup. They are playing well enough to make the playoffs, but I can't see them winning 16 games.

They are in some trouble once Crosby, Malkin, and Letang hang them up

I think if you actually believe that Rangers fans are "cool", you haven't interacted with them much. The same group that physically shook an ambulance as Pat LaFontaine was being taken away unconscious. Or, one of my personal favorites, this:

Despite the jokes, I know that you are coming around. That said, you'll need some new material once they pass Boston, because no one will care much about a game against Chicago in November.
Not sure what you mean by I'm "coming around". I'm just an objective observer, it's the team that's hopefully coming around. As of now they're 12th overall in regulation hockey PTS% and because they've run super hot in gimmicks, they're 5th overall by PTS%.

You seem to be obsessed with 1st place, I'm far more interested in how they do in the playoffs. That's also why I consider regulation PTS% to be far more meaningful than the one they use to determine the standings - there are no gimmicks in playoffs, just regulation hockey thankfully and regulation PTS% is a far more accurate measure of how good the team is at playing hockey.

12th overall is anything but impressive, but it's better than where they were a few weeks ago so let's hope they keep improving.

Watch it be effing Tampa. The hockey gods are like that.
Tampa kind of sucks this season, no reason to be more worried about them than other potential opponents that I can think of.

I'm obsessed with first place because it is going to end up being the difference between playoff success now versus years past.

Watch it be effing Tampa. The hockey gods are like that.
I don't think Tampa will even make the playoffs, but I guess this is where someone will chime in to tell me how great Vasi is now that he's not playing behind a world class defense....
