So I’ve been in New York City this week so I caught the games on MSG+ network. The Islanders announcer and colour guy Butch Goring gave absolutely no respect to the Leafs and hyped up the Islander players pointing out they were only one point behind the Leafs. (Never mind the games in hand). Gave Tavares no due cause the goal might be called back. Bunch of sucks like their fans. The Ranger announcers were very complementary of Leafs players, especially our core 4.
Islanders guy was convinced that Tavares was cheating in the faceoff dot

Isles’ broadcast is so bad that I streamed Sportsnet, MSG Rangers’ broadcast is usually very good.

Leafs getting stronger each month:
October - 5-3-1: 95 point pace
November - 7-3-2: 109 point pace (cumulative: 105 point pace)
December - 3-0-2: 131 point pace (cumulative: 110 point pace)
It’s what they do.

Leafs fans, put aside the acrimony for a few minutes.

Those of you who saw both NY games, give your thoughts on the two NY teams and compare them so we get another view of how the teams looked on ice vis-a-vis each other.

Always good to get other opinions.

Way to see the Leafs bury the Rangers under a pile of pucks.

But, I'm sorry, I'm still not convinced this team is a contender. Trust is like an eraser. It gets smaller and smaller after every mistake.

So when the Leafs come out hot early in the regular season again I remind myself that I've seen it before.

Nothing new here. Nothing that hasn't been done already. Nothing to get excited about.

Am I happy for my favourite team performing so well?

Of course. But once fooled twice shy. Even an addict can string together a few stretches of sobriety.

That's not something to dismiss lightly.

It's an accomplishment to be proud of. One to build upon for future success. But still hangs heavy with the burden of all those past mistakes.

Being misled a single time is enough to create doubt in every truth thereafter.
What you should be impressed about is the fact Toronto is running 3 AHL dman every night and still finding ways to win.

Of all the night for my dad to want to go out to dinner it was the night they beat the best team in the nhl and put up 6 on one of the best goalies in the world....

Missed every second of the game :(
Couldn’t you DVR your Dad? Just kidding….the Leafs will play a game in Feb where they’ll score 8

Man I just took a look at our schedule the rest of the month....we are in point season right now. Playing a bunch of trash cans.
Did you notice that in the last two days we lost to a steaming turd of a team, and kicked the crap out of one of the best teams?

We're about as likely to go on a losing streak as a winning streak "playing a bunch of trash cans". :sarcasm:

Matthews playing with speed while there’s lots of ice out there.

I think a Rangers Leafs playoff series would be great but it looks like they’ll both finish too high in the standings and probably won’t happen.

A team that is only now rounding into form is not going on a losing streak. Two regulation losses in the last month. Home games coming up against two of the worst teams in the conference. First in the division, and likely the Eastern conference, by the end of the month.

Might end up with Leafs/Islanders in the first round if the Islanders hang on to a wild card spot.

That would be a great series for the Leafs to redeem themselves for some poor showings on Long Island.

I haven't forgotten how you were 100% certain that we'd beat Buffalo and Chicago. Have you?

Despite the jokes, I know that you are coming around. That said, you'll need some new material once they pass Boston, because no one will care much about a game against Chicago in November.

The beauty of winning the division is that whichever wild card team the Leafs play, it won't be a strong team. The Eastern wild card teams are going to be downright mediocre this season.

I don’t know if they can both make it that far
Could happen if they both win their divisions, are healthy and have their goaltenders playing to their best. Much tougher road for the Leafs if they have to go through Florida and Boston.

Impressive win with the back to back against a good team. I was skeptical with Jones in net but a wins a win!
If there is anything predictable about this team, it is that they are unpredictable. Let's see if they play down to Columbus and Pittsburgh.

My comment was very much tongue in cheek, but haven't you noticed we seem to play our worst games against the worst teams?

No question that the Leafs have sometimes tried to get by on their talent alone when playing much weaker opponents. At the same time, I think we are watching a different group this season. They are maturing as an actual team, in large part because of the additions that were made in the off-season. It is probably a weaker collection of talent than in past years, yet a stronger team.

i tuned in towards the end of the first so i missed the pre game talk of the lineup changes / shuffling.

Why wasn't Reaves playing? I got that Knies was sick, and i saw McMann in there, but were they playing with a forward short from the Jump?

From where i was watching it seemed like 2 regulars out, 1 replacement in. :dunno:

Considered it myself.....Columbus is closer to Windsor than Toronto is. I know someone who has gone to a few Columbus games over the years from here, and it's a great short trip.
We've gone a few times, always had a great time. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Was disappointed the timing didn't work out this year or we would have gone back again.

They look like the same team as last year. The core can play great when there’s room out there and teams have settled into the heart of the season.
They still have to prove they can rise to the occasion and win when everyone‘s laser focused.

The Islanders are their fan base are a bunch of morons. Right up their with Oilers and Sens fans. It is probably why no one gives a f*** about the Islanders and what they do.

The Rangers and their fans are cool. Lot of respect for that organization.

Hope that helps.

Analytics nightmare yet we just keep piling up points.

Past regime didn't have the league figured out like they thought. Winning in hockey can't be formulated (more playoff specific sentence). You either just have it or you don't. Leafs seem to be moving closer to being that team that will end the game with the W no matter what happened, in contrast to all those games where the stats show we should have won but ended up golfing early instead.
