Important stretch of games the last few weeks and Panarin goes ghost town.

Where have I seen this before?

He hasn't been the worst player of the bunch but mr. 11.6 going playoff mode in regular season games is a new one.

In more positive news, Mika is up to 13 points in 9 games since Miller arrived, after going 4 in 10 (with only being a goal) before that.
He's also had almost as many multi-point games since Miller got here (4) as he had all season before he arrived (5)

I know Kenny has the gig but Don LaGreca is great

I know Kenny is going to get the gig, but it's a bit frustrating that he's going to miss every Rangers game played on Saturday and Sunday for the NFL, and then whatever national responsibilities he also has for TNT.

I like Kenny, just wish we were picking a guy who was always going to be around.

Worst loss of the year
Seems to me this is about the end of the road. Three more games to the deadline. Unless they win all three they should get rid of any vets they can and let the kids play. Maybe catch lightning in a bottle. At worst get a head start on next season.

Unfortunately that might be the nail in our playoff coffin.

I’m not sure it’s unfortunate unless our GM is the last one to realize it.

Realistically, this season is an aborted mission. It’s already over. We don’t need to “gain experience” or have a moral victory by having an abbreviated playoff appearance. We went to 2 ECFs. This year was always Cup or bust and you would have to literally be beyond the help of medical professionals to think it’s Cup, so it’s automatically bust.

Acknowledging that, we’ve been buyers for several years. An accidental bust year where we draft high and restock the cupboard a little bit isn’t the worst. NOT acknowledging it and STILL accidentally having a lost year, but only barely missing the playoffs IS probably the worst thing, because we simply waste a year of everyone’s prime while also not gaining any meaningful assets. So why don’t we just acknowledge that Fox is hurt, Kreider is hurt, Shesterkin is full bipolar, and we are not contending for a Cup - which means there’s no bloody point in fighting for 8 seed, because this isn’t a young team that “benefits from just getting the experience” - and just call it a year for both Fox and Kreider so they can rest and heal, give kids like Otthman and Berard more than 7 minutes of ice time, let them get acclimated and just retool for next year?

Someone, explain to me why a professional general manager of THIS team can say “No! We can still win the Cup this year!” and not be questioned as being wildly incompetent and out of touch?

How cuylle continues to not be elevated in bigger roles and situations is baffling. The kid does everything and works hard all the time. Why would you reward him and use him for a positive example?
It's this organization's business model. Unless they're a generational talent, no younger player will supplant a vet in NYR. Ever. For any reason, despite showing they could be ready for more responsibility. If you have the bigger contract, you get the bigger role in perpetuity. Full stop.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt at the start of the year. But I can’t ignore it anymore. Lavi needs to go yesterday.
I have less than zero faith that this team will bring in a coach that will have this team look any different than they have over the last 5 years. Roster changes big and small, coaching staffs completely revamped 4 times from Quinn>AV>Gallant>Lavi, and I cannot tell you what this team's game plan is on any given night or the type of game they play. It feels like they just show up, participate in a hockey game if they feel up to it, and leave.

Whoever they choose will have a big undertaking. Or not. It doesn't seem like the coaches do/have done very much to mold this team into anything in particular.

This very much. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a greater case study in favor of the hypothesis that NHL coaches are literally a made up and unnecessary job than the Rangers over the past 2-3 decades, going at least back to Renney. Like, honestly, a HALF competent, half respected “vet” is capable of calling out on the fly matchup adjustments for the bench, because when I played NCAA it was sometimes our captain yelling change ups depending on the situation before our coach had to, and unless he disagreed he was all for allowing it. Paying 50-70 year old men millions to wear bad suits while being too out of shape to bend over far enough to tie their own skates and NOT make lineup adjustments is kind of wild. I’m about 70% convinced that in-game coaching doesn’t exist and the NHL just ruled every team needs a “daddy” who is allowed to yell at the refs. The only kind of coaching I actually believe has validity is specialized one on one coaching like Allaire coaching goalies or a skills coach working with D men, etc. I’m almost entirely convinced head coaches are like US politicians - entirely figureheads devoid of substance.

So, I just noticed @will1066 ‘s little byline:

And realized there are two school’s of hockey thought. Will’s and @SnowblindNYR ‘s, which (because goalies) is:

If you score, you better f’n win the game
