Played well enough to win and yet again let down by “the best goalie in the world” who apparently forgot that he’s supposed to actually live up to that billing if he’s going to demand to be paid that way.

There’s been obvious issues all over this team all year but Igor’s inconsistency has repeatedly let this team down. He’s supposed to be elite, he’s paid to be elite and far too often he’s just average. Paying this much toward a goalie can be a problem with roster construction even when you’re getting commiserate performance to his pay but when you’re getting league average goaltending it will be a death sentence for this team if that’s what they get during Igor’s contract.

Also, this is why you can’t lose that game to Pitt before the break and the game to Buffalo coming out of it. Should’ve been 4 easy points to bank there, which would have us in a WC spot right now, but instead they blew those games and were 4 points out. No room for error to absorb a loss where you play well but lose to a better team.

I thought this team was good enough to get in to the playoffs. I was wrong. They did try hard for the most part tonight but its obvious Panarin/Igor and few other "Stars" are not gonna be able to be difference makers.

This season is cooked mate. Fox will be back next year. I’d move Schneider for a similarly aged, similar upside LHD no problem. What does it matter if they can play 23+ while Fox is out. I’d rather lose every remaining game and draft top 10 than pretend it’s worth fighting for (and not making) the 8th seed.

It's not baffling. Laviolette has consistently made poor decisions this season. This is the guy that the Caps sent packing.
