Lol this is always the take when the Bears miss on a QB.

(insert HOF QB here) would have been a bust if drafted by the Bears.

Some people think the Bears would have ruined Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.

I feel like my head is going to explode listening to some of these takes. The Bears are in a beautiful position going forward. The transformation of this franchise in less than 2 years under Ryan Poles is remarkable, IMO.

And all I've seen all week is bitch, bitch bitch from probably 80% of you guys. It's like BWC has infected you all with his negativity.

It was looking excellent but keeping Flus is a big rocky road. It can go all well and maybe if Williams is great the OC can become HC over Flus

This is the thing, I think Fields is ok in the same way that Cutler was ok. They need to shoot higher at the QB position.

we're all judging the now because at the time we didn't know that pick would result in the opportunity to draft caleb, it was a 20-30% type lotto ticket to take him...lets say in some hypothetical world the carolina pick is 7-10 and bears are also in that range, its a f***ing disaster if that happens...and thats how probabilities work, they hit the 20-30% outcome, good to be lucky but disaster when they had 100% chance at stroud...it was really a bet on fields and that was wrong too

I was trying to discuss the trade post mortem. Yes we got all of this stuff for 1.01. Yes DJ, Stevenson, Wright and a 2nd and another 1.01 is amazing. Especially because its Caleb Williams. But Houston is hosting a playoff game because franchise QBs are that important.

But we got lucky to get 1.01 with Caleb but pure value after the fact, Stroud is worth way more. So to me the idea of trading back this year is crazy. That is all I was trying to argue.

Not that Poles f***ed up and not that we should have taken Stroud. No one knew CJ would be this good. That isn't Poles fault. But it does prove that a franchise QB is worth way way more than anything you're going to get in a trade.

if they were set on seeing fields out for another year then the trade is fine, thats an entirely different discussion if they should've or not

Also, nearly everyone had Trubisky as the top QB in the 2017 class. Does that mean that Pace should be immune from criticism for missing on Mahomes?

"Nearly everyone"? I'm pretty sure Watson was the guy most had as the best. Trubisky started coming on later by the Mel Kipers of the world after the combine.

Mahomes definitely came out of nowhere though, especially with Texas Tech's run and gun offense and how that would translate to the NFL.

the crazy thing about the whole Stroud deal is that wasn't it reported Demeco wanted Anderson but ownership wanted a QB so they split the difference and did both? complete opposite result of the owner/hc tussle in Carolina, wonder if Bryce would've had similar results if he was the one that went to HOU and Stroud went to Carolina

The Bears still trimmed the playbook for Fields. Today they said Texans did not try and protect Stroud.

Condolences, DHF. Hope your team breaks through once the Watson contract ends. That team would be insanely easy to root for.

And man, Lovie really did both us and Houston a favor. Took the chance to draft the bust Bryce Young out of their hands and the consolation prize was the best of the draft (with the possible caveat that Richardson also looked damn good when healthy).
