People always overreact to 1st year players whether they start hitting the ground running then fade out or they don't look so hot then improve. Do I like Stroud? Absolutely. But Caleb Williams has been mentioned as a generational QB by people for years now. That's like saying you'll take whoever the 1st pick was a year prior instead of Connor Bedard. It's asinine.

Dropping DJ Moore from that is big. But otherwise it's not like anyone could of seen Stroud doing so well here with Getsy, Patrick, and a WR best weapon of Mooney

guy put up 85 and 12 as a 2 year starter and we didn't even consider him? yeah, major miss and poles deserves all the blame if williams isn't the answer...and lets not forget that he got EXTREMELY lucky that Carolina was that bad, people had them pegged to be a lot better so there is another universe where we're picking 8-16 and have no shot at a qb unless we trade all the assets we got in the trade...its going to be Williams vs Stroud for the next decade as far as Bears fans go

Who are these announcers. Don't think I've heard them before. If this is NBC's fiirst team, I wonder who they have doing the Peacock game.

& the organization argument has nothing to do with it. You're awful until you're not.

stack up Stroud 2 years leading into draft vs Calebs...and tell me who is generational...and mind you that Stroud ELEVATED his team, he went to CFP and put up 350 4 and 0 against arguably the best college defense ever in Georgia

At least Browns are respectable organization at this point fielding competitive team which is better than Bears, Jets and rest of the usual clown organizations at this point

Exactly why I said let the process play out. Now if Poles trades this pick for assets and Caleb really does turn into Patrick Mahomes for another team and those said assets don't turn out nearly as good, then by all means... rip him a new asshole. But I'll gladly do that trade again 100 times. D.J. Moore alone has been elite for years and that's not counting the other rookies. Now you have a chance to land a QB who is EXPECTED to be way better.

most people had Carolina pegged for like 6-7 wins this year...that pick on average would've been 8-10 range...its kind of a disaster when you pass on Stroud to run extremely hot to get the 1st pick...they got lucky
 
If Williams is the guy we've been waiting for, then yeah it's the biggest fleece since Herschel Walker.

Literally it all comes down to Williams v Stroud and until we see Williams play in the NFL it's fair to criticize Poles for passing on Stroud.

How did their supporting casts compare?

And DJ Moore just finished with the 6th most receiving yards in the league, and all 5 players above him had 20+ more targets than he did. How is that a WR2?

If anybody should be ripped on passing on Stroud, it's Carolina. They made the trade and got to choose their guy. They chose Bryce Young (and I'm still not giving up on Bryce) over Stroud. That is no different than when the Bears traded up to #2 and they have their litter of the pack in QBs and they chose Trubisky over Mahomes, Watson. Noone ever talks about Cleveland passing on Mahomes for Myles Garrett.

D.J. Moore a "really good 2" is one of the most laughable takes I've seen on here though.

Both Carolina and the Bears deserve to get roasted for passing on Stroud as things stand.
 
I've seen people saying about taking Williams, that normally a team with 1st overall isn't a close to .500 team. Saying, well Carolina was. But if they had Moore this year, I bet they're still just drafting around where the Bears are.
 
The argument isn't that Poles passed on Stroud. He wasn't going to do that. The argument is that Stroud is worth way more than what Carolina gave us at the time of the trade.

Caleb Williams doesn't have to do with my post is my point....It worked out that Carolina was terrible and we got the 1.01 but the day the trade was made. DJ, 9, 2nd 2025, 2024 1st is not remotely worth what Stroud is now.

We weren't trading Justin and we thought he would jump this year. He didn't. We didn't "miss" Stroud really. I get that part.
