That game last night was embarrassing to watch. The Colts were man handled by a team with 2 of their top 6 out. I know Barrie was also missing 2 defenceman ( 3 if you include Clarke).... but, to give up 2 SHG in a game is unacceptable. Lazy, sloppy play lead to numerous turnovers and basically hung Thornton out to dry.

At this pace Marty is gonna have to pay above rate prices for a PP quarterback and a stay at home defence man as well as someone that can lead the PK with consistency. I really thought Haight/ Jelsma with their speed would've been the answer on PK.

Obviously Lemieux should now be kept as defence is an issue; however, which of the other 3 O/A 's gets traded. Your not gonna get the return you should get for any of them as most teams are set in there OA situation.
With no games remaining this weekend, hopefully something gets done on the trade front and soon, as well as getting Cholach and Lemieux back on the ice.

Hey Generalsupdates,

Sorry - as I said HF boards will only let me sign in on my mac which I don't have access too 24/7.

I wish I could have advised you not to take Barrie - this team just doesn't have it. Not this year, nor the next.

They've been outplayed every game this season IMO, Clarke will not be fixing this. Do they have room to add? Yes they do, but they already have assets gained from the pain of the past few years, don't use them on a team like this.

Trade everyone. Blow it up.

Clarke (if hes back)
Thornton
Cardwell
Vierling
Mcdonnell
Haight
Cholach

Trade me all. get a top 06 maybe, get up to half the picks in O.

Colts arent winning next year so I'll gladly deal him - return should be a bit sweeter given you get him 1.5 years (similar to stillman). Now I'm not saying I'll be getting all the picks stillman got as I think Petes overpaid but honestly give me a few early picks nd ill trade.

only untouchable is akey, and in all honesty i would even make him available next year, if not the year after as this team needs to build around beaudoin, lowe and a high 07 pick.

akey gets the C next year tho

the colts would be under 500 if he didnt steal the games he has
Agree to both of these.

This team has not jelled. I would be listening to all offers. Have to get rid of these O/A's before the market goes away and other teams fill spots.

Not ideal for me as a season ticket holder but I'd rather see them build for two years down the road, this team just isn't going to do it.

Be 100% Clarke is not returning before shedding pieces. Having arguably the best player in the league would cover up a lot of flaws.

Trade The O/A's now/ASAP - Vierling, Cardwell, McDonnell, Lemieux if there is a market for him.

Trade The 2003's that have a market for them, get what you can - Frasca, Chisholm, Kavanagh

Next year I'd keep one of the goaltenders, Punnett & Cholach around for O/A.

That will leave a good D-Core of Akey, Punnett, Cholach, Tiller, Aitchison. Punnett to wear the C.

Forwards remaining are all small outside of the 2006 players we have - Jelsma, Haight, York, Matthews, Wigle, Jodoin, Bodoin, Lowe, Grisolia at F plus whatever 2006 they pick up and whatever high draft picks they get. Trade the 2004's away, in season for someone to help in 2024 plus bulking up futures for 2024 run.

This would give them a competitive enough team to get into the playoffs, gain some experience for the younger guys and assets to push for a run down the road.

I am not sure why LA would send him back, it really doesn't look like this team has what it takes to compete, he's not going to be on team Canada. Best to keep him up with the big club, access to their strength and nutrition trainers and gaining valuable experience.

I guess I could be wrong. And you are right, if he is coming back, it makes a huge difference.

What's wrong in Barrie? At least two seasons in a row where they have underachieved. Is there something else at play here that needs to get resolved for them to reach their potential?

All over the ice. They have no secondary scoring, their defence has been really bad and Anson Thornton is just okay. 3rd fewest goals in the conference. 2nd most goals against in the conference. Hunter Haight (MIN 2nd rounder) only 8 points in 16 games. Beau Jelsma 8 points in 16 games.

This years team just doesn't seem to have the camaraderie. They aren't having any fun out there. The D is not deep enough either, I think they thought they were going to get a bit more out of Kavanagh when they traded for him. Chisholm is not a defenceman and hes' been playing there for much of the season. They really miss Clarke back there that's for sure.

I can't remember what game it was but we had a one or two goal lead at home with less than five to go. Three vet forwards got caught deep and gave up a 3v2 that ended in the back of our net. Just seems to be a lot of little things that are making it not come together.

I'm not even sure having Sale and Clarke would make any difference. I think Marty might need to step away from the Bench job and just focus on GM role...or vice versa.

i dont know if the coaching is where it needs to be. marty is more of a recruiter vs a coach.

To echo the above points, I'd agree Marty might need to step away from the coaching position and focus on being a GM. Seems like a majority of the roster has taken a step back. McDonnell, Haight and to a certain extent Jelsma have not been great after having good seasons last year. Wigle, Matthews and Grisolia have brought nothing.

The Blueline just isn't good aside from Akey and Cholach. They basically have 2 top 4 defenseman and the rest are bottom pairing at best. Tiller has potential if he doesn't take a step back like many others.

While he's struggled the past few and the numbers have dropped, Thornton continues to be the reason they're still in a playoff spot.

Overall I don't know what direction this team should go. They can't seem to draft and develop anymore so more picks will only do so much. I don't know what quality of roster players if any they'd get back for the OA's, and if coaching is the issue what will happen when these players come in. It's quite the mess and I don't trust Howie to deal with it properly.

Not sure Marty has had any success anywhere? I mean he gets close but not able to put final pieces together for the last push . I'm not confident he is even a good GM. IMHO for what it's worth.

I think this line might say it all about the Barrie Colts.

This team despite all expectations is just stale and I think that all starts from the top and I think it has an effect on the players. There is just no motivation for these guys.
