My take on this deal is Haight wanted out so Barrie loaded up on picks. Fine. But that gives them flexibility if Clarke is returned. To me, if Clarke comes back, that changes the fortunes of the Colts. They will likely score more and give up less Goals. Thos picks plus a solid player can go to Kingston for Wright if he is also returned.

McDonell has been useless in a Barrie sweater so there is a possibility they could upgrade that roster spot with an alternate OA. And, because McDonell has a previously solid track record and was an NHL pick, they would likely get a reasonable return for him or at least reduce the cost of the OA replacement coming in by adding him in the deal going the other way.

If goaltending is a concern, they could use the OA spot on Costantini Or maybe Lennox and go that route.

I think Barrie has options. It seems like a waste for this team to throw in the towel if Clarke is returned.

I guess I just don't understand how you can take the same type of player 1 year earlier and they are only worth 2,3,4,5,6 (Outwater). What has Haight really done to make one fewer year of him worth that much more than Outwater?

I mean no trade clauses are a thing. If you are only willing to waive for certain teams it drives price down.

Way better team with Wright & Arcuri than Haight & Beaudoin. Way better team with just Clarke.

But that’s probably what it takes to have the best shot at the east.
I really think this is a prelude to getting Shane Wright, Acuri, and possibly Hache. Along with Clarke being returned. That will put Barrie over the top in the East imo.

Perceived upside, but price is higher nearer the player’s peak usefulness it seems

Clarke back joined by Arcuri, Hache, Wright would be way over the top

67s add Mintyukov, Morrison and Zhilkin.

Petes add Kyrou and Serpa.

It’s then not so over the top anymore.

Although, I think it’s gonna be a big freight to snag both Wright and Arcuri. It’s gonna take all the picks from Haight plus Beaudoin just for Wright. They do have the picks though.

I can't see this team competing for a championship. Even with Clarke. They are better off trading him to a contender. I don't think Clarke wants to come back either, LA will probably only return him if a trade is arranged to play with a championship contender.

I think you are selling the nucleus of that team short. I think you can make a move on an OA goalie and shuffle the deck a bit with your third OA spot.

You immediately add a #1 D-Man that will play 28 minutes per game. You stretch out the rest of three defence and target play roles more suited to their abilities.

You have the picks to go acquire a few players to help out. Snag one solid stay. At home type D-man and another forward.

I think there are options of Clarke comes back. If Clarke doesn’t come back then O think you are right. Try to trade a player of two but otherwise, I think the elements are targeted to compete.

Barrie can't be planning on drafting 20 2nd rounders... if Clarke comes back they use their assets to go all in.

Well, it appears a change of scenery is exactly what Haight needed as his development appeared to be stunted in Barrie. With 8 pts in his first 3 games he has hit the ice with a newborn passion. Glad to see he appears out of his rut. Saginaw in town tonight and looking forward to the game.

lots of barrie guys who should have been lighting it up are not this year. matthews, jelsma, grisola, they are all underperforming. is it all the players or something else?

probably something else …they are missing Clarke. We might find out just how much Mintyukov means to Saginaw in the new year

Going to be an interesting next few weeks to see how all of this unfolds. One thing's for sure, Team Canada just got a hell of a lot better. Remains to be seen what Marty and Howie do in Barrie. Time to $hit or get off the pot.

I am happy Haight found his scoring touch in Saginaw, he just seemd to skate around aimlessly in Barrie. Hope his upward trend continues and hope the assets we got for him make the difference moving forward.

If Clarke is sent back you can best believe they will be buyers, maybe the biggest buyers in the League. They have the assets to do a heck of a lot.

The more I think about it, the more I think they need to just go for this. Barring impact players pulling a McTavish, this is Barrie's market & they will without question dictate the trade deadline with their x10 2nds, multiple 3rds, 4ths, 5ths + Beaudoin & Akey highlighting their assets.

If Sale reports, great although I think odds are he doesn't. If not, go for Mintyukov. I know Drinkell likes Akey. Deal Akey + NB 2nd 2024, + Bar 2nd 2025 + Sag 3rd 2025 + Kit 4th 2024. After receiving an A rating from central scouting, Akey is a candidate for 1st round NHL entry this year.

If Wright wants to reunite with Clarke for one last go, Barrie will call dibs. Will Kingston be willing to deal both Wright + Arcuri for what would be one of the biggest deals in colts history? To BAR: Wright + Arcuri. To KGN: Beaudoin + Grisolia + KGN 2nd 2023 + SBY 2nd 2024 + OS 2nd 2024 + SAG 2nd 2025 + PBO 3rd 2024 + KGN 3rd 2026 + Bar 4th 2025 + OS 5th 2023. Give or take another pick or 2.

That leaves 4 2nds, a few 3rds + multiple mid round picks yet to deal. Upgrade mid line players & add depth.

You are then running a core of:

Cardwell-Wright-McDonnell
Arcuri-xxxx-Vierling
Jelmsa-Frasca-xxxx

Clarke-Mintukov
Punnett-Cholach
xxxx-Chilsom

Thornton
West

That team would be unreal. And like you said, they’d still have as many picks available as anyone else to add even after those 2 huge ones

Ottawa has seven 2nds and ten 3rds but other than Ottawa……
All I ever see basically everyone on your thread say is that you’re afraid to trade their rostered prospects. Unless that changes, they won’t keep up with Barrie if Barrie wants a certain guy

Ottawa will have their targets and we shall see what they end up doing. But, they have picks. They have a very strong nucleus. They only need to swap out some fo their inexperienced 17 year olds on the depth chart with more experienced players that you can count on for consistency as they get deeper.

There is a difference between “needing” to trade rostered prospects and “choosing not to” trade rostered prospects. One organization doesn’t have much of a choice. The other one can approach it with more flexibility and adjust if needed.
