Unless you are in Niagara…..
They have neither the X's and O's nor the Jimmy's and Joe's...

I was saying to someone tonight that you could argue this year there isn't a true "elite" team in the entire league. A bunch of teams who have good stretches and could be elite with a good deadline. Also not a true horrible team, other than Niagara.

I think that has a lot to do with the Pandemic year lost and no shuffling of the deck. that lost season of deadline deals makes a huge difference. One less season for the crappy teams to load up on prospects and picks combined with one less season for the strong teams heading inot the Pandemic to recoup their picks and assets lost at that deadline. Double cohort of rookies last season with only so much ice to dedicate to development.

It was a huge disruption.

Ottawa is a great example. They are well coached, well prepared, have a strong nucleus but are far too young to sustain their current standing. The inconsistencies of youth will come through at some point and we are starting to see it now. When they play at full speed and are agressive, teams have no time with the puck and they can take advantage. When they don’t play like that, they don’t have the elite level talent to carry them against the stronger teams. But, conversely, if there were a true elite team, Ottawa wouldn’t be able to take advantage of that team with their tenacity. The elevated talent on a team like that would be able to adjust to the heavy forecheck.

This deadline will in fact make a huge difference provide there is one clear winner that pushes their chips in. Unfortunately, Peterborough and North Bay don’t have enough chips to be that team. Ottawa and Barrie do. Will one of them do it?

You have made this assertion a few times. It does not matter that the Petes and NB do not have as many picks as Barrie and ‘67s to use this season, not even a little bit.

The Petes can send some picks along with Lardis to play with former Oakville ranger teammates in Soto & Outwater or ‘04 born if Kingston prefers to acquire Wright & Roger.
Right now there is little doubt NB has the best team in the east. They really don’t need much of anything other than good health. If the opportunity presents itself, NB can replace Winslow with an OA BUG and add DelMastro.
Both of those teams are not handicapped by a lack of picks.

At that point, the colts & ‘67s would have to part with ‘06 born and a lot of picks.
Picks are not nearly as relevant as the question of the ‘67s willingness to add.

Each of Peterborough and North Bay can make one significant trade. That is pretty much it. Ottawa and Barrie can corner the entire market if they so choose to do so.

If Barrie has Clarke returned, they have the assets, if they choose to use them to acquire Mintyukov, Wright, Arcuri, and Pinelli. Neither Peterborough nor North Bay has the ability to do that. They don’t have the picks, nor do they have the key players.

If Ottawa wanted to get stupid, they have both Mews and Marrelli as ’06 first rounders. that gives them the ability to lead the pack. They have access to seven 2nds and ten 3rds. Ottawa is as well positioned as Barrie. Again, assuming they wanted to blow their brains out.

Peterborough and North Bay do not have the ability to blow their brains out. This is about what the possibilities are, not necessarily what they will do. The possibilities are not endless in Peterborough or North Bay. That is a fact you cannot deny.

But the Petes and NB with one significant move can make it so the colts & ‘67s need 2-3 significant moves to equal.
Seriously, how do you one up Wright & Roger? Two transactions for Mintyukov & Morrison likely costs more. And I dare say that would not be enough for the ‘67s if those transactions occurred.
The Battalion & Petes are not short on disposable assets to be near prohibitive favourites or even short if they want/have to ‘get stupid’.
I don’t see the battalion sacrificing next season though.

I think currently the 67’s and Petes are at par. North Bay is one step ahead because of Bloom and their injuries. So, from my perspective, Ottawa is one player behind. From a Barrie perspective, I think if Clarke returns, they are right beside Ottawa at one player behind North Bay.

North /bay and Peterborough can arguably acquire one player each. Maybe two if they can sweeten the post with their fist and picks plus an additional significant asset to have Kingston add Roger. But, to be clear, both Peterborough and North Bay only have enough key picks at their disposal (2nds and 3rds) to use to acquire one key player like Shane Wright ALONE. VanVolsen plus two 2nds and three 3rds is the value of Wright. That is all Peterbrough has. Kingston is not going to throw in Roger out of kindness. They are going to have to add a piece to get him. They would be tapped out. The worst part is both Peterborough 2nds are 2025! Not ideal. North Bay has one less 3rd at their disposal and both of their 2nds are 2026 which isn’t good at all.

Barrie, on the other hand, could trade Beaudoin and 2024 2nds and 3rds for Wright. Those 2024 picks are far more valuable to Kingston because next season those 2024 picks are the very next draft so Kingston can use higher value 2024 picks as opposed to 2025 or 2026 2nds. Not all 2nds are equal. Ottawa only has one 2024 2nd but they have loads of 2024 3rds.

Barrie, without blinking an eye could acquire Wright, Mintyukov and another significant asset all while inserting Clarke back into their lineup. It wouldn’t even be difficult for them.

Disagree.
The Petes can get Wright & Roger without discount (if Wright chooses the Petes). They could even have picks to spare if willing to part with Lardis.
The colts can choose to move Jelsma, Tiller, Mathews, Picknell; Beaudoin is not a forgone conclusion. Having said that, the colts drafted 2-‘06 forwards in round 2 and a smaller highly rated forward in the 4th so moving Beaudoin might not be an issue.

Weird strawman argument where the Petes choose to move all their good young guys and Barrie chooses to move non of theirs.

The point he was making is if both teams say okay I'm all in and nobody/no pick is off limits, Barrie can have whoever they want. PBO offers Van Volsen+3 2nds+3 3rds? Barrie could say okay here's Beaudoin+5 2nds+5 3rds and he's gone to Barrie. Barrie holds the cards, if they so choose to

Peterborough can’t even offer Van Volsen plus Three 2nds and three 3rds because they only have two 2nds and three 3rds available. This is why I say the Petes are limited in what they can do. If it is ok for the Petes to start unloading key 17 and 18!year olds then why wouldn’t Ottawa be ok (by comparison) shifting to Barlas, Foster, Gardiner etc?

It is absurd to think that the Petes and North Bay hold the cards. They don’t. Barrie, Ottawa, Windsor and Flint hold the most picks and from a player perspective they are all relatively similar from a 17 and 18 year old pools of bodies that could be made available.

The only question is how far those four particular teams want to go.

Sure. But in the end, KGN will move Wright to the team he chooses for the best package the team is willing to give.
It is not a free market. McTavish said his preference was being with friends in Hamilton, but he’d be happy staying a Pete. He went to Hamilton. Wright has the NTC; it is Wright that holds all the cards, not any team.

Let’s be practical. Lardis or VanVolsen > Beaudoin > Pharrand & Meelee.

The difference in that argument is Wright isn’t happy to play in Kingston.

I've been in a few e-mails back & forth with Howie (more so particularly last season), he's a good man - usually gets back to the fans if you so chose to reach out to him.

If there's one thing I'd want him & management to know, is that I'd much rather see a full send this year, as opposed to when they tried it in 2009-10. I don't see enough futures on this team currently to be that juggernaut they could have been if they kept their young guns in 2010. What could have been if they even stood pat for the next season when Hawerchuk took over, or even the year after;

Sgarbossa-Schefiele-Pearson
Telegin-Strome-Locke
Camara-Behenna-Hall

Of course, if they didn't sell they wouldn't have had to re-acquire O'Connor either. That would be the forward group 2 years after 2009-10 PRE-DEADLINE. Only downside is they wouldn't have finished last to grab Ekblad, but that's nowhere near on par.

If that's not one of the best top 9 in CHL history I don't know what is.. again.. PRE-DEADLINE. That looks like 5 100 PT scorers .. 5 WJHC players.

But Sadly Marty knew his contract was up and you know what happens next.

This time around, there's no TOP 9 shaping up anywhere close to that. So really, Just go for it now and burn the next few years. I know Marty is playing it safer these days as he's settling in the area but seirously, just go for it.

On a side note, I see a lot of talk regarding Marty's coaching decisions. Does anyone actually know what his qualifications are? My good friend who sadly passed used to ref with Marty, however thats all i know.

on another note, sale coming looking more and more likely. 4th line 10 minutes per game in last 15? 0 points.

People are calling for him to go to Barrie. If he does forget MIntyukov, trade akey elsewhere for strong defensive help.

Is Akey actually available? That seems like you would be sending one top pair d man just to bring in another. Obviously if Clarke is back, that solves that but let’s assume Clarke doesn’t get sent back. Is Akey still a trade chip?

I agree. That and I don't see Akey going anywhere in a trade.

Now if he is returned to Barrie you go out and get the best players available; not necessarily Wright. However; you leave no stone unturned and use up all those picks to get the best player fit for the team.

Would need 2 for 1 D; I think Akey is the last player on the colts roster Williams considers trading. A return of Clarke is the way the position gets significantly upgraded.
How do you even upgrade the D moving Akey?
DelMastro/Mintyukov - Clarke
Punnet - Kavanaugh?
Cholach
Aitcheson
Tiller

Then do something like Wright, Arcuri, Roger moving picks and Lemieux, McDonnell, (Jelsma, Mathews or other ‘04), Beaudoin? Or Cato as #3 RD if unable to exchange OAs.
Then more picks and ‘04 born for Zito or Michaud & Dann or pick apart some other team desperate to be good next season.

Hello Colts fans
Tonight I am reaching out to the broader hockey family and communities not as a London Knights fan, but as a concerned human being. As you know, one of our Knights players died tragically this past Saturday. His friends, family and the community are devastated.
Please consider donating to the GoFundMe page set up by his family to help with the funeral arrangements.
Thank you
