Today's game is the final nail in the coffin for me. This bullpen needs to be torched. I can count more than a dozen games we lost due to their inabilities.

Whatever happened to Brett Lawrie? I see his sister pitches for canada in womens softball.

He’s only 31, yet it feels like an eternity ago he was with the Jays.

Still have him jersey hanging in my closet. :( I truly expected him to be a long-time Blue Jay and cornerstone player for the franchise.

“Of the Toronto Blue Jays 47 losses, they were leading in the 6th inning or later in 27 of them.”

It’s legit cost us the playoffs.

I believe both Lopez and Hiraldo need to be added to the 40 man roster to prevent them from being eligible to the rule 5 draft. They should have room no problem, but they are my prime trade candidates if the Jays make a somewhat big trade.

I think you can definitely make a good argument on selling high with Otto Lopez.

He's currently leading the NorthEast league in batting avg (.341) and BABIP (.423).

The profile more than anything can attribute to certain types of players BABIPing their way to glory. He’s not a power hitter, and he sprays the ball everywhere.

That is one stat but how many other games where the Jays were say down a couple of runs after the 6th and then the bullpen coughs up 2-3 more. I remember a few of those games saying ok it's the 7th we are down 2 but have the top of the order coming up then the bullpen coughs up 3 more runs and now the potential of a comeback is moot.

Yup I can remember a fair number of games where it would look like the game was set up for the top of the order/Vlad to tie it followed the bullpen immediately giving up a couple of backbreaking runs.

One of my biggest complaints about Montoyo is how he uses his bullpen when they're trailing. If they have a 5 run lead, he'll use all the top guys to try to lock it down, but as soon as they're trailing, even by just a run or two, he'll go to the mop-up guys as if the loss is a foregone conclusion so giving up a few more runs isn't a big deal. It bugs me more than probably anything else he does.

I assume if we were in on Gallo, one of Grichuk or Gurriel is in the deal or another deal, not someone like Biggio as he may need to play 2B next year if Semien is gone.

Could see an internal battle if Biggio does move. Lopez has been exclusively playing CF/2B, Martin has taken reps there outside of league ball, Espinal is a candidate for more playing time too. Or, Bichette slides over if he OK’s it. With Gallo in the fold that would block Groshans from 3B too. He’s obviously still a candidate to stick at SS.

edit: whoops didn’t realize he was a strict OF

Gallo isn't a 3B at all anymore. He's a really good defender in RF... if they were to get him, I can't imagine they would force him in somewhere he doesn't play.

I agree. You probably see a Gurriel or Grichuk involved in deal or another deal. Springer and Hernandez are untouchables. Gurriel being the most likely due to control and age.

Having an OF rotation and DH rotation of Springer, Hernandez, Gallo and Grichuk is impressive. Hard to beat, probably best OF in baseball. And all controlled into next season.

I didn’t even notice that. I just assumed he couldn’t run out there but it looks like he’s pretty good. In that case I still wouldn’t be afraid to pull the trigger. Gallo would be a significant upgrade on any 3 of the guys we’re talking about moving (Biggio, Gurriel, Grichuk).
