I like the acquisition of Berios but with the prospects we gave up you would think we would have had something along with him coming back. A RP or something. Crap I would have even paid all of Donaldson contract for him to come back.

Maybe more to come. We will see

We do gain a reliever in this deal since someone has to be dropped from the rotation.

Agreed. Funny thing is we don't need him to be that starter anymore. He can be the most dominant relief pitcher in baseball. Or closer similar to Chapman. I feel with berrios Ryu ray manaoah stripling we have the 2nd best starters next to San Diego now
Cough Dodgers cough

Nothing else is coming. And it shouldnt

Do we know what Axford has been hitting on the radar gun in Buffalo? He’s been lights out there so far and might be a bp option.

Stats wise yes, I guess price beats stripling for the 5 and Gosselin beats manoah, although jays have blew a tonne of games this year, mainly bullpen, u are most likely right tho we are 3rd I starting pitchers. Maybe we can acquire another relief pitcher to give us another HAND

While it may seem like a lot to give up for a year and a half of Berios, SWR and Martin aren't sure fire things while Berios is a top SP. Anyone remember Drabek and Fischer? They were deemed can't miss prospects while they were in the minors too.

Is he rfa after that?

Our lineup is much better than the Yankees even with their new additions. Plus we just added an ace to Ryu ray manoah an stripling. Look out everyone. Springer is back leading off an comfortable. I'm throwing big money on jays to win the world series regardless of the dodgers moves
Even without the Yankees, there are the Rays, A's, Mariners, and even Angels to watch out for. That's 6 teams fighting for 2 spots. The 7 remaining series against those teams will decide our fate

here we go HF scouts already making excuses for a poor trade. Oh, this guy said SWR and Martin weren't highly rated by some guy who runs a website and doesn't have any connections to a MLB Front Office.

I am sure Thad Levine ran it by these guys at BA Authors to make sure he got the right info on the prospects vs talking to his scouts and using their own internal scouting reports for each player during their draft year especially Martin a recent draft pick.

Not a GM alive reads the prospect websites and says wait BA ranked him at 14 so I better take him vs that guy ranked at 16 cause these journalists really know their scouting stuff.

It's a bad trade plain and simple. You will start to hear all the faults about these 2 players the Jays traded so people can feel better about getting hosed. Good teams don't get hosed on these types of deals.

Oh, don't forget Berrios pitched in the AL Central so he got to face the Tigers, Royals who are crap, and White Sox who before this year were not that great. Indians were really the only group that was good.

Now he has to face Boston, NYY and TB who always beat up Jays pitchers. Bal is the only easy team he will face.

Agreed but I see the mariners dropping and us passing the Yankees. Tonight will be another statement game. Even with steiplojg on the hill

A veteran catcher and a bullpen arm would be great if the cost is reasonable, but I think the roster as currently constructed is good enough to make a strong push for a wildcard spot.

Sure...

Because it's not like there haven't been reports on Sportsnet about the Jays concerns with both of these kids. And trading them while keeping guys who are raking doesn't suggest that maybe we value the other kids more.

We have the best offense in baseball with a young core. Our starting 5 are pretty much solidified. One more elite relief pitcher an look out

The more I look at Berrios metrics on the baseball savant site, the more I am liking him. Pretty damn good chase rate.

Berrios relies on 4 pitches.

Curveball
(30.5%)
Sinker
(29.4%)
4-Seam Fastball
(26.5%)
Changeup
(13.6%)

Honestly have not seen him pitch more than an inning or two this year simply from flipping through MLB extra innings and/or highlights.

So I guess any pitcher we get will struggle right? Since we play in the AL East?

Jays needed pitchers...let's face it...Berrios will gel with Vladdy Tescar, Gurriel and others.

Move forward and continue to get better

Berrios relies on 4 pitches. Yes that's playing for Minnesota and on a bad team. He's regarded as a top 10 pitcher so let's see what he can do with an elite offense
