After giving up 2 top 5 prospects for Berrios who pitches every 5th day you will need to pony up more for a guy in Kimbrel who has the same control but impacts the game on a daily basis. This is not even including Bryant who on his own will garner you at least 1 top 10 and one top 20 prospects on his own.

That's not how prospect values OR pitcher values work.

who cares what they are regarded internally. You need to know how these 2 players are regarded externally. What you think of the prospect means crap you need to know what other teams value them at. I am sure if they went out and sent a memo to all teams that Martin and SWR were available in trades they could have gotten better than Berrios.

Listen to all the chatter that's going around in the twitterverse right now. SWR is definitely slipping, evident by BA not including him in their midseason top 100. Martin losing glimmer due to power concerns and defensive issues. They're not our top prospects anymore.

BA has already said that they are not nearly as highly thought of outside the org today as we thought they were

How do you know Martin and SWR were as highly regarded outside the organization? Odds are other organizations who have scouted them are as aware of their question marks as the Jays were.

Pearson himself can be the high velocity reliever guy this year
Yessir an that's not asking much from a starter with 100 mph who accumulated injuries. He can easily throw 2 shutout innings in 8th an 9th at 100 mph without getting tired. It's the control issues. No more dolis lol

Yup this is the best hitting lineup in baseball an still looking to add a catcher lmao our starting pitchers are solidifying. Hope we turn Pearson into that High velocity reliver or closer

No way should we be even thinking about trading Pearson

Even if I think they overpaid for Berrios (which isn't exactly a hot take) I genuinely do trust this organizations evaluations of its prospects. They weren't high on Kendall Williams, when many other outlets were, and dealt him for Stripling, who himself has taken a step back this year. Atkins all offseason spoke very highly of Moreno and now look at him. There are other examples of this but those are just two that came to mind.

Edit: Obviously I meant dealt for Stripling, not Williams. Ignore my idiocy.

You understand that other teams send scouts all across the minors to look at opposing teams players for this very reason, right? SWR is down period: supposedly more 90-92 this year and he's suddenly lost his control which was his best tool. He was never a huge "stuff" guy, so a decrease in velocity - if permanent - changes his outlook entirely.

I'm seeing 2015 Sanchez flashbacks but he actually has a strikeout pitch. 5Ks in 2 IP during the WC series last year tells me all I need to know about Pearson in the pen.

Yeah if there is one area where this organization has earned everyones trust, it is in prospect evaluation.

I like the acquisition of Berios but with the prospects we gave up you would think we would have had something along with him coming back. A RP or something. Crap I would have even paid all of Donaldson contract for him to come back.

Maybe more to come. We will see

If he can't hit the strike zone then why not? Manaoh is the only one who has exceeded expectations without injury. We are all in and gonna be championship contenders. We can keep Pearson but I hope he can atleast come In as a solid relief pitcher at this point. Our sp an batters r set now and one more elite rp is all we need. Yankees don't scare me with what they acquired considering their pitching is much worse than ours. Sp they have the better closer

Agreed. Funny thing is we don't need him to be that starter anymore. He can be the most dominant relief pitcher in baseball. Or closer similar to Chapman. I feel with berrios Ryu ray manaoah stripling we have the 2nd best starters next to San Diego now

reminds me of 2019 Sam Gaviligo having an 0.95 ERA in first his 19 innings and a 7.58 in his next 19
Yeah but at least than I was expecting him to come down to earth, and from what I remember he didn’t seem particularly dominant, Chatwood looked he would be one of the best relief pitchers in the league for the first month

I don't like giving up two very good pieces for a 1.5 year pitcher. But TB\NYY\BOS getting Berrios would have compounded the issues dealing with AL East.
