It was unusual. But worthy of forcing them to resign? The little princess that went to Biz and complained, I mean, really? You are a grown millionaire man and you can't just tell the coach that you aren't comfortable with it on your own? Ugh.............modern athletes
Abuse of power, violation of trust, from someone with a checkered past. Babcock should have behaved appropriately - he didn't and had no leash left to start with.

Babs was just trying to get to know his players more that's it, and unfortunately some players just couldn't handle it, just different generations of people, definitely blown way out of proportion.
You seem like a nice guy. Hey, I'd like to get to know you better, mind sending me all your phone photos? I'll DM you my e-mail...

Sounds creepy doesn't it?

Real life is truly stranger than fiction. What a weirdo and what a way to go. Lol.

Some of you might be saying "yeah well he's laughing all the way to the bank". He truly wants to be a head coach, but he's just so misguided. It's just so hard to believe that he got so far in pro hockey: Stanley Cup, World Championship, and Olympic Gold.

I have to ask the question:

Is he a product of the culture, or is he truly misguided?

He got 2 games as head coach with Larsen away sick and instead of just going with the flow chose to try the Laine at center expirement. Hes creative and clearly not scared to try new things.

Before the Babcock hiring I was actually hoping for Vincent to get the job

Wanted him to be the Jets coach over Bones. I liked what he did with our kids on the Moose. He allowed them to play to their strengths.

I hope that is the approach he brings to the Blue Jackets. Really sucks for him that he has less the a week to come up with his own schemes for the year.

Lawsuits are expensive and you are up against monster companies with lawyers on retainer. They'll drag out the lawsuit knowing you have mouths to feed / bills to pay. For every lawsuit you hear about, there are a 1,000,000 incidents that never get reported.

If you believe worse doesn't go on on a daily basis in corporate America, you've never worked in corporate America.
i currently work in corporate America. This is actually day 1 training in corporate America. You seem to be stuck in 1997

Such a bizarre defense(?) of Babcock, I don’t even get the point of the post?

I didn't follow this at all, but was asking players to hand in their phones and let him look at their contents the only accusation?

Because if so, damn, that's kind of a weird thing for there to be so much drama about.

Torts and Babcock are completely different.

Frank Corrado talks about it on Leafs Radio, if you're interested - you can listen here:

He mentions Torts is straight to the point, which guys like. He can be direct - but you know where he stands.
Babcock plays mind games and never tells the player how he feels or where he stands.

They're almost opposites, the only similarity is that they're both tough coaches. Obviously, CBJ should have known that when they hired him.

Nailed it. I’ve had tough bosses and weirdo assholes- I could work with the tough bosses because I knew what to expect and they never crossed any lines. The second it went from professional hardass-ness to somethin else I lost respect and motivation.

You don't see why that would be a big deal? People keep photos of themselves and their partners naked on their phones. There might be gay players on the team who haven't come out, but a weirdo like Babcock going through their phones might find out. They might have text messages shit talking other players. Babcock having that kind of information about anyone would be a bad idea. Remember Marner's list?

literally everybody that knows this guy seems to hate him yet randoms on hf will still take up arms for him because “this softness doesn’t make it In the corporate world” or something

Most bosses in the corporate world aren’t weirdos and/or pervs trying to look through your personal phones camera roll

Plot twist: Jarmo fired and Babcock in as GM

20 years ago that wouldnt have even been a surprise

Please. That's just window dressing so they can say, "We did our part by training our people". The corporate culture a nasty / cut throat place.

Best corporate work movie I ever saw was Margin Call - which, ironically, isn't about margin calls - starring the always affable Kevin Spacey.

Keep me updated on how high you move up the corporate ladder before you see the ugliness.

The NHLPA message also suggests that as they looked deeper into things, the situation was worse than reported, and that Babcock went out the door so quickly leads additional credence to that.

I’m pretty high up! I see ugliness but it’s nothing really over the top weird and/or perverted like this. Just general backstabbiness. Keep me updated when you move into the 21st century.

I can see why players would have a problem with it, but I don't really get why that isn't just handled in-house. Do we know if anyone suffered any consequences if they refused to give Babcock the phone? Babcock has ideas from 30 years ago that don't fly anymore, but do we know if any internal discussions took place? Because if a player says Yes but then sends a text to his buddies complaining about it, it's kinda weak sauce. You're a grown man, so stand up to your a-hole boss if you think he crosses a line.
