Being fired means getting full compensation.
Babcock resigned as a way to avoid an investigation that could've led to a termination (meaning no compensation).
I’m referring to everyone else in the organization that allowed this to happen.

I can't believe anyone is defending this dude. I swear, a person could kick a sleeping puppy and someone here would say "but you didn't see what the puppy did before he kicked it."

Give me a break. The dude clearly thought his players have no right to privacy and invaded that privacy. End of story.

No team fires a coach before the first game unless there's a reason for it. There clearly was here.

Babcock isn't interested in building friendship (that's hilarious to even suggest). He thinks he gets full control over these dudes' lives and acts like it.

him not getting a coaching job tells me the leafs were refusing to allow teams to interview him.
Nah, he was getting paid. New gig would have cut those sweet 'Leafs bucks.' Same as he will be now having never 'coached' a game for the Blue Jackets.

5-D chess. Highest payed non-coach in league history.

Imagine there is some gas station attendant smiling to himself smugly in his basement apartment that "the toxic Mike Babcock" lost his job today. lmao

Can you just reassign a coach to some crappy job if you don’t want to fire them? Clean the urinal cakes between periods?

You're giving him the benefit of the doubt.

You're assuming because Mike Babcock didn't admit to doing it intentionally, that it wasn't done intentionally.

In your scenerio, the only person who could possibly provide evidence is Mike Babcock.

Your assumption that a man with a career of being vindictive was not being vindictive in this case because he did not not openly admit to it means to give him the benefit of the doubt.

No, I'm saying that because there is zero evidence that he did this intentionally, I will not make the assumption he did this intentionally. Crazy, I know.

The even stupider part is it's not like I'm claiming he's innocent. If I had to guess, he probably found out at some point in the process and still didn't give a shit. But until there's some evidence he created this Machiavellian plan to intentionally torture a one-year player who missed half the season that would never be on the Wings again, I'm not going to make that baseless assumption. There's plenty of verified things Babcock has done to know he's an a-hole.

Why aren't players so worried about photos they put online for the world to see? But worried if a coach asks to see them on their phone?

to me, all this thread does is prove that knives were waiting for Babcock's back...and that he was smart to leave as soon as the sheep herded.

Came to laugh at the “back in my day” posts and was not disappointed.

Normalizing mutual respect in the workplace is not a sign of a softening world. It’s a good thing. If things like that run contrary to whatever past you romanticize, then I’m glad the world is moving on without you.
💯✌️

there's a difference between photos that one chooses to share and photos they take for themselves personally and a coach pressures/forces you to share.

there can be nudes or other very personal things in someones photos

This is why nobody wanted to hire him. He thinks he can get away with doing this type of nonsense. He is suppose to coach, nothing else.

Babcock said they were able to choose 100%

He mentioned how he did this in Detroit and Toronto as well, didn't seem to be a problem then...

Now I'm curious what was on the phones of some of these young players. Must be some pretty scandalous stuff if they were so uncomfortable with just showing it to someone. Pro tip: get burner phones for your salacious content.
Messed up take.

What if one of them was a homosexual in the closet? Or had intimate pictures of their spouse?

Why should they need a burner phone for just living their lives in peace? That's their personal property and they have a right to privacy.

No employer should be allowed to ask for your intimate personal information like that. I mean why should they? so they could judge you?

Nah man. Not wanting to give up your phone doesn't mean you're hiding anything "wrong." It just means you have proper boundaries and self respect.

Do you think this somehow makes Babcock a better person? Drug dealers have lots of money too. No matter how much money Babcock has, his legacy on this Earth will forever be that of a total asshole.

What kind of filth do you keep on your phone? Low chararcter - would not have you play 3rd line left wing on my team.

Considering that it took 2 days of figuring out how they would end that relationship, I think Babs got a percentage of his contract.

Considering that the investigations widened to include interviews with ex-players it seems likely to me Babcock just wanted to close the door on this before he was buried by a tidal wave of stuff.
