Agreed. Is this a jarmo killing mistake? Seems like the cbj front office is a bit of a mess, in need of cleaning?

If it was Jarmos idea he should resign . But this was such a strange hire it reminds me of when the Stars brought back Hitchcock in 2017 because the owner really wanted it. Maybe it wasn't just the GM's idea but someone above him who wanted a big name.

Even if there is no such rule, do you think that is acceptable behaviour?
No, but it's not a hangable offense in my book and was certainly amplified by outside noise. Stronger leadership on all fronts could have found a path forward that would garner respect from all parties. Now they'll have to call the union hall to find a coach on the sidelines that gives back rubs.

is it actually? (genuinely asking) can anyone cite the CBA on this? I would think they would have mentioned that.

Why would this be a shock?

Anyway:

S11 of universal declaration of players rights NHLPA
“Every player has the right to a private life, privacy and protection in relation to the collection, storage and transfer of personal data”

Reminded me of the Torts trade/hire. Has Jarmo's fingerprints all over it, wanted a tough coach to squeeze out a winning season in the year his job was on the line.

Torts is a very different guy from Babcock though. An in your face hardass who will not sugarcoat what he thinks and you allways know where you stand with him . Babcock is not like that at all. Babs is more a doing wierd shit behind peoples back guy .

Alot of players like and liked playing for Torts. Babcock not so much. He's widely disliked.

At least the Islanders did their GM Neil Smith/Garth Snow swap in June under Chuck Wang. Columbus has prospects in Traverse City, and now has a coach-swap just before training camp.

Thanks, Columbus. You win the worst the run sports organization on earth.

I wouldn't put Jarmo Kekalainen in charge of a Mestis club.

I dont have a dog in this fight but it does come across like you are defending him, intended or not.

Adam Wylde posted that around the same time I made my original post. Pretty similar to what I posted if you look at my initial post. Just like him it was more curiosity as opposed to defending someone. But this is HF boards, there always has been a pack mentality. If someone doesn’t immediately jump on the train people love dogging on that person. You clarify, you’re back tracking now. It is what it is, that’s message boards. So I can’t take it personally lol.

All Im saying is whether you intended it or not and clearly you did not, your post came across as sticking up for Babs. You spent a paragraph talking about how much you hate him and in the next sentence you said what he did wasnt really serious and if it were another coach it would be a non factor. That sounds like sticking up for him (whether you mean it that way or not) when everything is pointing in the direction of him doing douchebag things.

I've got nothing to hide or overly embarrassing but if my boss asked me to look through my phone I'd tell him to get f***ed.
Would you though?

You and your parents have spent 20 years getting you to the point of ‘making it’ the guy who decides whether you do has your balls in a vice and asks to see your phone. 9/10 times you’re showing it. Also, you’re not the 1/10.

I like it that kids will now stand up to a jackass. All these abusive old school dinosaurs should have been rendered extinct long ago.
Tell me again who was abused? I guess the definition of abuse has changed.

It is more of a situation where the sensitivity of a young man has gotten in the way of business. Sorry, but life isn't always easy, and if your feelings get hurt over something as small as this, then you have some growing up to do.

Like I said before, I couldn't care less if Babcock is employed or not, but don't cry abuse lol

Yes, that is indeed what you posted before...?

For your reference, the actual CBA is here:

So why does the NHLPA list it on their website if it's not enforced?

I'm sure it's in the actual CBA also - but like yourself, I am too lazy to go through the whole thing to prove basic human rights (the right to personal privacy) applies to athletes.

No abuse, but disrespect. You can't look through another person's personal phone. That's all there is to it.

I don't see why Jarmo should survive this. How do you trust his judgement/preparation again? Not even their comms were good on this one and it caused their vets to end up with egg on their face.

I love the people blaming the “sensitive kids.”

Who raised those kids?

Anyways, I’d like to see the details about what happened. I feel like the players would have stayed silent if it was a big deal, but they didn’t. If he forced it, yeah it’s no bueno.

I think people are taking that part out of context and not for what I actually meant. It wouldn’t be a big story if another coach did something similar because other coaches don’t have the baggage/history that Babcock has. So it wouldn’t be viewed as a negative but more rather a true get to know you. We’d be more inclined to believe other coaches vs Babcock.

That isn’t me defending him, that’s me acknowledging that he shouldn’t be given the benefit of the doubt based on his past. Especially the Marner situation, because it’s him there should be an investigation. He has a history of leveraging information obtained from younger players and using it as a power tactic against them. We haven’t heard that from other coaches. Plus players were already aware that he has used this tactic in the past.

Balls in a vice? You either have the talent to play in the nhl or you don't. Telling your coach to get f**ked isn't going to change that.

This whole situation could have been handled much more appropriately if one of the leaders on the team actually had the balls to tell babs to fu** off and focus on coaching rather than worrying about my phone.
