Babcock made that team boring to watch. So would anyone with the rosters he had. The last olympic team was probably the best hockey team in the history of the world.

one bounce here and one bounce there and they might've ended up choking the 2010 Gold as well. As historical as it was to see Crosby score the OT winner, with the roster Canada had compared to the USA, that game should have never went to OT in the first place. They even managed to barely beat powerhouse Latvia 2-1. I don't know how you can top that.

Olympics matter most, and NHL players participated for the first time in 98 where the literal greatest goalie of all time happened as well as babcock like decisions leading up to it. https://www.cbc.ca/sportslongform/entry/1998-olympic-hockeyClearly anybody could have won which is why Canada has won every single tournament in hockey history.
Seriously people.....

We should be fair to Latvia, they had one hell of a goaltending performance. That was the only reason it wasn’t a blowout.
Where is he now anyway? Did he even make the NHL?
Credit where credits due, Babcock has a 100% gold medal rate as the HC of TC in international competition. That's not inconsequential.
Every move that looks like a bad move from Babcock was probably an act of defiance against Dubas.
Guessing Babcock thought he would win that battle.
No GM is gonna hire this guy...would they?
Yet Pat Quinn, Glen Sather, and Marc Crawford have all failed to do so with arguably better pools of talent. Babcock wasn't working here and it was time to move on, it doesn't mean we should just belittle his actual accomplishments. His first 3 seasons here were all good in their own ways. Last year was a regression, and this year he showed it was time to go. Guys like him probably have a shelf life, but that doesn't mean they can't be good or effective coaches in the right circumstances.Yeah he was a real longshot underdog on those Golds.
All he had to work with was: Crosby, Brodeur, Doughty, Niedermeyer, Weber, Bergeron, Getzlaf, Iginla, Thornton, Marleau, Pronger, Keith, Seabrook, Fleury, Nash, Tavares, Price, Benn, Subban and Toews.
He whipped a bunch of no-names into a couple of Gold medal teams ...
Umm, he's insanely well connected in the Hockey Canada network. If he wants another job, he'll get one.Every move that looks like a bad move from Babcock was probably an act of defiance against Dubas.

I wouldn't even hire Babcock to sell snow cones at the games never mind coach.Every move that looks like a bad move from Babcock was probably an act of defiance against Dubas.

I'd still take Babcock over quite a few currently employed NHL coaches. Let's not forget that we had guys like Wilson and Carlyle here in recent years.I wouldn't even hire Babcock to sell snow cones at the games never mind coach.
If he wants to coach he’ll easily find a job. I think he’ll take the season off though.
He's heavily connected in the most important network to get a job in the NHL, which is the Hockey Canada network. I mean, seriously, we saw Hitchcock get a job last year (primarily through the hockey Canada network).I dont think so. I think alot of people are changing their attitudes on hockey especially GMs. New game, younger coucher and people who are more open. I think he's closed the door on alot of places.

We basically have two GM's who fit your description out of 32.

He's missed the playoffs twice in sixteen years and been fired once despite working for 3 NHL teams. I know it was time for him to go, but his as much as the local media wants to tear him down, his reputation isn't bad, it's not what it was, but it's not bad. He challenged some people in a way people found off-putting, but this is professional sports, a ton of shit is tolerated if you believe it will get you results. He's probably not a candidate for every job in the league, but considering about 20% to 25% turnover their coaching staff every season. 19 of the NHL current 31 NHL coaches were not with their team prior to the end of the 2016-17 regular season (that also doesn't count a guy like Housley and Hitchcock in Dallas being hired full-time and fired in that time-frame) and only 3 coaches were with their current team prior to us hiring Babs. He'll be a candidate for at least 50% of those jobs and probably closer to 75%. Also, keep in mind that 10 of these 19 coaches had previous head coaching experience. Do you really think if we see between 12-16 coaching changes in the next 24 months (not an uncommon expectation) that someone with Babs resume won't get one of those jobs? That's a fair point. I think it's already trending though to modernize and with the recent stuff that's come out I don't think alot of people are going to want to be close to Babcock. He's clearly treated a bunch of people horribly, and while not the same as Peters, he is considered connected to him. I think some wouldn't hire him, he's not a great coach and now he has a bad reputation.
not gonna happenImagine if he takes over Coach's Corner and we got to hear the real gud pros gud family man eat well sleep well feeds family bull**** with country music in the background.
