Seriously are you blaming Hellebuyck for the loss?
Maybe if he had defencemen who can keep the crease clean or have a coaching staff who knows how to make line changes ... Hellebuyck would have had his 4th shutout of the season.

It's easy to second guess the coach but IMO his biggest mistake was not starting Hellebuyck after he shutout the Wild vs the Habs. I don't think I ever saw that before ... your #1 goalie gets a shutout and you don't play him the next game with a 3 day break coming up.

Hellebuyck did not cost the Jets the game today but he did on the prior game on Friday against St Louis.

He is way too inconsistent this season and his game is awful lately.

He let in 7 goals in the 2 games against St Louis and that is not going to cut it.

Yeah it’s Maurice’s fault that the team failed to split the games against the champ while missing three forwards and a defender, with an already depleted team.
Excuses like that are for losers.

Again many players and possible coaching maneuvers fail the eye test.

These ridiculously long shifts for Wheeler are getting old. Regular long shifts, then 2 minute PP’s and then PK.
Maurice needs to stop relying on the same three guys.
Scheif and Wheeler have figured out that they can do whatever they want. When your leaders don't play like leaders, your team is screwed.

The PP is shocking - we have the horses to get it done on the PP -actually, it's looked a little better lately regardless of the numbers - they are getting shots and better possession time.

The PK is no surprise IMO - we don't have the big bodies on the back end that you need to break up board battles or front net congestion.
In front, we are missing pcs like Tanev and more recently, Lit's and Copp. All 3 are good PK players that were replaced with . . .
It’s true that we are getting shots and that’s a positive, but what’s up with the slow passes from Pionk to Laine? The passes were so slow that Binnington had all the time in the world to get set up and the D-man block a part of the lane? I want to see Pionk make the same plays but with man passes!

again. i throw up at how at this level things can live and go on and on and on without any bigger notice. this team is at end of road and noboty care anything? i imagine beerFESTIVALS @ Winnipeg home ARENA yet going on at homegames. and this im sure no matter if at this times Winnipeg had lost 90% of games. people there just for some fun , hockey and beer. thins could be much better HELLO?!? Anyboty care? no i guess not. doing things right and doing things in direction for more entertaintment for teamfollowers is good? i dont know.

next up Colorado. i say 100% lost incoming. propably very very ugly one also.

2 years ago Colorado having no players. today they have . they have knowledge (i suppose every team at this level should have) and have collected players for their team. Winnipeg 2 years ago had players but they have built their team backwards. they sent away best players and built team with AHL or lower beerleague players. today we have this. Maurice seem like deffenders who no quality have. he like deffenders who not upwards puck can bring. Maurice Think throwing icingpucksupwards for forwards to hunt on is hockey. he also for forwards plan is demanding forwards to throw pucks at opponents end to hunt on is good hockey. im sorry this is sad thing going on. this boat is at sinking for long at coachstuff pretend like nothing?!? is there anyboty who want to play here anymore with this tactic? how fun at Winnipeg is to play hockey anymore being at top 2 lines? is there not enough skill at 2 top lines to have a play going on at offensive zoun or is it coach? i mean. they come in zoun and after 3 second opponent team take away puck and soon afterward is building it at our zoun for like 1 minute. yeah. donaldduck team this is. so much bad players allover and no tactics, gameideas it seem. players not knowing even what to do at ice. coach leave. thanks. this have been going on like for how long i Watch this at Winnipeg game. for Three four year. soon i leave. laine too

Yup , lose a couple games and Fire the coach , fowards all such , D are brutal , goalie sucks , the Jets suck , my life is over , where's that rope so i can go hang myself . HF boards is so predictable .

I actually did not mind either game . We created lots of scoring chances and seem to carry the play fairly often . It's to bad we only got 1 point out of those two games but i tip my hat to St Louis . Off to the next game , Go Jets Go !!!!!

I am in this camp. I didn’t mind the last two games but when you start getting multiple posts and your facing a hot goalie it never works out well.

It's the many plays in his own zone where he's too casual and fails to check an opponent or clear the zone. It results in extended time stuck in the D zone, resulting in more chances against, fewer chances for, and taking too many penalties.

Scheifele badly lost his man on the first goal. At the Blues blue line when the puck was going toward the Jets end, Scheifele had a step on his man. By the time the player was at the Jets blue line, Scheifele was two steps behind and in goes the puck into the Jets net.
Just a lack of hustle.

We've won more than our fair share of tight games this year. Might end up losing a few now. With our defense, we look like a bubble team for the playoffs.

Wouldn't expect much from the next two games unfortunately.

Basically the Blues dominated us, in both games, but especially the second game. The way I see it, is the Jets are going to have to acquire some "size" on defense. This is the main area that has changed this year, and it's causing the forwards to have to suck all the way back and help out.

Last year we had Buff and Trouba and Chiarot who were all a good size and played with a physical edge to their game. Our defense is lacking severely in this area, and right now, we'll be lucky to make the playoffs. THIS IS THE MAJOR AREA THAT'S CHANGED --IT'S SHOWING.

It also doesn't help to have Little, Kulikov, Copp, and Perrault out I think the Blues outclassed the Jets, and without lights out Goaltending, we're not competitive with that team.

Over the last 10 games we're going backwards, and losing to last placed teams as well -- like Detroit and then Montreal. We should be beating those teams, because right now, we have all tough teams coming up in the schedule to play.

If I was Chevy, my first priority would be getting some good sized, skilled defenseman, even if we have to trade a hi -skilled forward. Getting Buff back in the lineup will the "first" thing I'd concentrate on.

Ya I’d say missing your top player is worse than missing three bottom 6 players.
Jets are missing their top D in Buff. Also missing a top 6 forward in Little and key middle 6 players in Copp and Perrault. Their depth at the moment is nonexistent and it is putting a lot of pressure on Scheifele, Wheeler and Morrissey. It's starting to show, so let's just pile on them while they are down, shall we? :sarcasm:

Maurice is being touted as a Jack Adams candidate for making lemonade out of his defensive lemons, but a lot has been riding on the excellent play of Helle. However, if he (Helle) has a 10-15 game streak of mediocrity, as all great goalies inevitably do, we will need to change some thing up. A no-brainer is to play Ehlers more, in all situations, especially PP and 3x3. As soon as Niku plays a few AHL games I would bring him up as a third pair D and PP option. If Buff and Little are back by the all star break and we have a minimal number of other injuries we could still do some damage.

It’s ok with me if this year is a re-tooling year as long as we give some of the younger players more experience. I’m thinking Niku here.
In no way should we even consider being buyers at the trade deadline. Let’s restock for the next couple years. We already have Heinola and Samberg coming up soon.
I think our window opens up again in 2 to 3 years.

Well, good thing I decided to do something else this afternoon and evening instead of watching this game.

Judging solely by the comments, and the play over the last few games, it just seems to me that we are a bubble team being masked by good goaltending. Now that Helle has regressed, we're about where I thought we'd be: a wildcard team, or just missing the playoffs.

Lots of reasons for that. Running such a bad D is among the top. It's unfortunate, but at this stage of the game, you can't fix that.

Best thing we can do is to limp until the end of the season. Then try to fix our issues. That includes addressing the D, but may also include a coaching change. Of course, I have no clue who that would be. There doesn't appear to be anyone better right now, but maybe someone from the European leagues?

Whoever we do get really needs to be someone who can get our so-called leaders to wake the **** up. Because their lazy plays are ruining the team. After a full calendar year of the same crap from them, Maurice certainly won't do anything about it (or whatever he may be doing about it isn't working).

I entered the season with pretty low expectations. And good thing too, because I would be pretty upset right now.

I do believe this team can get better, but that won't start until the next season, at the earliest. Unless Chevy screws up the off-season. Then I will be pissed.

Little, Perreault, Copp, Kulikov, Byfuglien.
That’s your 2C, 1D, two third-liners and a second pairing D. Having your entire team decimated is probably worse than missing your top winger.

But let’s make things up to make the Jets look worse.
The only person to like his post was a blues fan so that says a lot

We’re not missing Buff. He’s retired. Stop hoping for a resurrection. Kulikov is not someone we miss. We’re hardly decimated with injuries. All our top stars are playing.

I'd be very careful to judge any Jets game, good or bad, solely on the HFJets post game thread.
